If you like staying at fancy resorts where there is lots to do, BUT you hate the prices, then our place is for you. We are a two bedroom penthouse condo right on the New River in Downtown Ft. Lauderdale. We have tennis and Pickleball courts, a heated pool and spa, a workout room, 24 hour front desk service, a business center and even your own bicycles plus a two person kayak to explore the river. Our view overlooks the City and river, not some parking lot. We have free secured parking for two cars with no parking charges. There is free water trolley service to travel the New River, to visit one of the many restaurants or the shops on Las Olas Blvd. The trolley stops right at our front door. A great riverside restaurant, the Pirates Bar and Republic, is just a 3 minute walk down the street
So you could stay at a house in some quiet neighborhood where there is basically nothing to do, or you could stay at our place with its many advantages. Please come and give us a try - I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
SEE OUR WEB SITE AND WEB CAM – for more pictures, for a live river view from the nifty camera on our balcony, for a 2D and 3D floor plan, for more about our “stuff”, for more about your hosts Ralph and Judy, for more about the special events like the Winterfest Boat Parade that starts on the river below us and the New Year’s Eve party that takes place in the park across the river from us. And more about the dock spaces available for your boat or yacht. The link for the website and camera are shown at the bottom of this listing. Page down to the very bottom to find them.

About Ralph Enderby
Your hosts, Ralph and Judy.
Ralph Enderby purchased this Condo in 2004
Why Ralph Enderby chose South Fort Lauderdale
After retiring from Motorola after 40 years as an engineer in their Research Department we wanted to buy a place we could go to getaway. We fell in love with the Esplanade Condo as the perfect hideaway. It is only 30 minutes from our home in Coral Springs but a 'world away'.
What makes this Condo unique
The view is what sold us and I think will sell you. We look down on the New River and overlook the City for a 'view to die for'.

My husband and I stayed here for a month-long winter escape. This condo felt like home from the day we arrived. Ralph and Judy thought of everything. They met us at the condo, and showed us where everything was in the complex. This condo was extremely well stocked, and the kitchen very well equipped. The layout of the condo was good. We were both working so having our own space was important. Of course it was easy to be distracted by the manatees swimming by and the constant mega yacht traffic going up and down the river. :)
It was so nice to be out on the balcony. I spent many mornings drinking my coffee, evenings having a cocktail, and enjoying many meals outside.
The property itself was very well maintained. Very secure as well. We took full advantage of the pool, gym, tennis courts and the grills. Thanks Ralph and Judy for the Pickle Ball set. It was a blast! And thank you for the beach equipment. I will be buying the beach blanket as a gift for everyone in my family -- such a great thing!
My husband and I took a gamble, and did not have a car. Kind of unheard of in Florida, but we did great. We are used to walking a a lot , so we were fine walking to restaurants, to the coffee shop and the grocery. There is a free water taxi that goes to Las Olas Blvd so we took advantage of that frequently. We also used the bikes provided by Ralph and Judy. Uber was readily available when needed, and only $8 from the airport (FLL).
You do have to be prepared for the train noise. The noise machine provided was helpful.
Thanks Ami for the kind words - we try to have something for everyone when they come. We are blessed that we are the only luxury condo Downtown on the New River with tennis/Pickle Ball courts so those along with the two person Kayak, bikes, beach chairs and picnic coolers help people have a fuller vacation. We are looking forward to the completion of the passenger train service to Miami in August. The Fort Lauderdale station is just blocks from the condo and will drop you in the heart of Miami. Judy and I plan to make a weekend of it when finished and stay at one of the hotels on South Beach for a night or two. The train noise will also be reduced on completion when the City goes to "quiet zones" at the rail crossings. Come back and see us again soon. - Ralph
A Fort Lauderdale Gem!!!
My wife and I stayed at Ralph and Judy’s condo for 10 days this spring. Ralph and Judy are perfect hosts and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. A bottle of wine welcomed us on arrival, and the chocolates and well stocked kitchen were nice touches.
The condo is exquisitely furnished and tastefully decorated — adorned by beautiful art. It is very functional as well — plenty of drawer space for clothes, a full master bathroom with two sinks, and an office desk, envelops, a stapler, and even some postage stamps!
The location is splendid, with a majestic view of the river and Fort Lauderdale. Be sure to save some time for a leisurely walk or morning jog on Fort Lauderdale’s River Walk!
Can’t say enough great things about this Fort Lauderdale gem! Thank you Ralph and Judy!
South Florida City Penthouse with sweeping views
My husband I booked a week in south Florida to escape the cold. We are considering being "snow birds" in a few years and wanted to try out high rise living. Our favorite part of our stay was the wrap around veranda with its amazing views of the River Walk and all of the New River hustle and bustle. Yachts, sailboats, paddle-boarders, and kayaks kept us entertained every day. High winds and cooler nights kept us inside a few times, but I think it was an unusually windy Spring.
The owners were very accommodating, and showed us around upon arrival. The building is very quiet and secure with a 24 hour door person. We enjoyed the quiet pool area and played some pickleball. The owners have the condo fully stocked and labeled with everything imaginable. We had everything we needed during our stay, but in all honesty, the space, while comfortable and clean, could use a few updates. We don't smoke, so the smell bothered us a bit. City noises were part of our stay, and the train's whistle and the bar district could definitely be heard at night. Lots of construction in the area!
Definitely more of an urban experience than a typical *Beach* getaway, but over all we had a really great stay.
Thanks Jim and Jennifer for the kind and thoughtful review. And you are right, living and vacationing downtown in any big city has it pluses and minuses. Its where the life and heart of the city is with its night life, many activities, restaurants, theater, etc. but it sometimes get noisy. We compare it to our stays in New York City with its vibrant but busy atmosphere. You will be happy to hear that the train noise will be a thing of the past when next month the City of Fort Lauderdale will go to one continuous "quiet zone" where the train whistles will not be sounded anymore. Thanks for staying with us and please come back again soon.
Regards, Ralph and Judy
Fantastic Winter Retreat
Rented Ralph and Judy's condo for a three month visit during the winter months. The apartment is exactly as described: Nicely furnished, well equipped and a stunning view over the New River. The balcony is large and comfortable...there is an endless parade of boats, water taxis and yachts to keep you entertained. The apartment itself is spacious and well designed, exactly as described in the listing.
The building has high security with electronic access and full-time security guards. The parking garage also has controlled access and the apartment's parking spaces are very convenient to the elevators. The amenities of the building are also fantastic....the pool and gym are clean and well maintained. There are multiple water shuttles that come and go from the building....going to the Las Olas area (and beyond) is very easy.
Ralph and Judy could not have been more accommodating. When the place needed some minor maintenance, Ralph was there immediately to solve the problem. Ralph "checked in" during our stay to make sure everything was going well. They are great hosts and we would definitely rent this apartment again.
One word of caution (mentioned by others also)....the train horn is very loud. You can get used to it, but be aware that it is part of the neighborhood.
Thanks Maria for the kind words. Please come back again next season.
Very nice place moré than we expected. The vien incredible, very good location, has all the necessary for a nice stay including a kayac for 2 and 2 bicycles. Ralph is the best has time to show all in detail!!!!
We recommend the place highly
Thanks Mirtha for the nice review. We enjoy meeting all our guests and showing them around. We believe a warm personal welcome is important when quests like you come from thousands of miles away and don't know what to expect and are hoping they made a good choice. Please come back again soon. - Ralph
Great Family Holiday Location
My wife and I stayed here with our toddler a while back and had a great trip.
My wife and I flew from the UK with our daughter and we all had a ball. The apartment has great views over Ft.L - we hired a Camaro SS rag top, but basically hardly used it on arrival, as you can walk to the grocery store, nice restaurants and the water taxi easily.
Views from the apartment are stunning: having a beer/glass of wine in the evening on the balcony was really special - you can see for miles. There is a decent height glass banister so it is safe for kids, as long as you are out there with them of course.
Facilities are great - gym, pool, BBQ, lifts for lazy people like me, easy parking, loads of space in the apartment and one of the biggest TVs I have ever seen, with an internet connection that was second to none.
Would definitely come back. Shame this work thing seems to get in the way.
If you are not familiar with the Downtown area of Fort Lauderdale, it is the fastest growing, most vibrant part of the City. A number of years ago the City Commission decided to re-develop the downtown area as an arts, entertainment and residential living area. A number of studies were done and a master plan developed. The first phase was the building of the “Riverwalk Park” along the north bank of the New River (the main river that runs through the downtown area and has some of the most expensive homes in the City). The Riverwalk Park allows you to walk the river (or ride one of our bikes) and enjoy the activities. The west end of the Park (where we are) starts at the cultural center of Broward County with the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, and going east passes the Museum of Discovery and IMAX Theater, the Old Ft. Lauderdale Village and Museum, the Museum of Art (one of the few museums in the country to show the King Tut Exhibition) - Continued below
Rates & Availability
Additional information about rental rates
Note: January, February and March are rented by the month with a discounted rate of $240 a night (a 20% savings), also we have a "last minute" special discount of 25% if you book with a starting date 30 days or less out. A great way to get away at the last minute and save money. Sorry but the discount doesn't apply for nights in December with all its great events. HomeAway is not set up to apply the "last minute" discount of 25%, so if it applies to your stay mention it and I will adjust your quote accordingly. The cancellation policy is that during the Winter/Holiday season of December 1st to April 14th, you can cancel up to 60 days before your arrival with a $300 cancellation fee. During the rest of the year, April 15th to November 30th, you can cancel up to 30 days before your arrival with a $150 cancellation fee. What that means is if you cancel before the 30 or 60 day point, all monies you have deposited would be returned as a credit card refund less the $150 or $300 cancellation fee. If you cancelled within the 30 or 60 days before your arrival date then all monies deposited would be forfeited, but you would not be liable for any payments not yet made.
