We are delighted to offer this unique oceanfront property on Penobscot Bay for your family's vacation.
This property features a large front room with dinning table and chairs and seating area, living room, kitchen. upstairs features open loft, master bedroom with curve ceiling whirlpool tub, and two smaller bed rooms and another full bath. Most rooms have fabulous ocean views, contemporary style, open, wood ceiling….
There are several beautiful gardens surrounds the house. The lights from sunrise and sunset are most exquisite reflecting the magic of Maine coast.
There are two kayaks for experienced kayakers to use and also two bicycles.
This property is conveniently located between Acadia National Park and Camden Hills. There is a peaceful state park and historic lighthouse just half-a-mile from the house, and a 200-foot dock for fishing. Visiting families often spend time collecting sea glass, seashells, and mussels in front of the house.
Many families revisit my vacation home, one family came back for seventeen years. I am very happy to share this special place with you and your family.
retired financial analyst, restaurant owner, ceramic artist.......who loves nature, zest for life.
Susie Goddard purchased this house in 1986
I felt in love with the mid-coast Maine since I studied at University of Maine in 1974. Purchased this property in 1986 as our summer home when worked near Boston, Ma.
What attracted me was the fabulous view and magic light from the house. The sound of ocean and wild life talks to me.......
1/2 mile walk to the state park....
8 mile bike ride around the cape......
Our family has been visiting relatives in Maine for the past few years and we decided to try a rental property vs. the cottage/hotel option. We were very pleased with our choice in this spacious, oceanfront home. The views from the master bedroom, living room and dining room were more beautiful than the pictures show. The other two bedrooms each offered skylights and an opening with drapes overlooking the interior lower level. We found everything we needed from towels to teacups! The gardens and lawn to the ocean cliff offered peaceful walks and views. You can take the stairway to the rocky shore below and you are in your own little world. We were torn between visiting area sights and relaxing on the sunny deck watching lobster boats, cruise ships, seals and the sun sinking beyond the coast. It was nice being on a dead end (Ft. Point lighthouse is at end of road) where we could walk and ride bicycles with little to no traffic. We spent one week, with incredibly perfect weather, in an ocean front vacation home... priceless!
We were looking for great family time in a peaceful relaxed spot. We got more than we asked for. The views were gorgeous, and the owners did a fabulous job taking care of every detail. They were extraordinarily accommodating, and even rescued us when we had a flat tire. They were wonderful to work with.
We took advantage of kayaking in the kayaks, biking in the state park. There was not enough time to enjoy it all. There was a wonderful fire pit, along with marshmallows and chocolates for smores.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and im sure anyone would enjoy this home.
Eighteen years ago we stayed at this home, before the internet. I was amazed we could find it again. It says something that we wanted to stay again. Suzie has made some great improvements...added a third bedroom and bath, increased the size of the deck by more than 200%, created a sun room from a screened porch, and added a huge garden and back landscaping. Sitting on the deck in the early morning with a cup of coffee while I watched the lobstermen lay or check traps was a bit of heaven.
Suzie's garden was an added benefit. We picked and enjoyed ripe tomatoes, cucumbers, kale, dill, raspberries, and blackberries, even made a blackberry syrup for pancakes one morning.
The home was clean with sufficient linens, towels, and kitchen equipment including lobster pots which we used twice while we were there for two weeks.
The home is located down a quiet, dead end street within easy walking distance of a lighthouse, beach and pier, and Ft. Point Park. The house is surrounded by trees, brush, and other million dollar homes...a truly beautiful setting with an unobstructed view of the bay.
During our stay we were visited by seals, osprey, loons, ducks, lobster boats, tankers and tugs...all a short distance from the edge of the bank.
The home is located in a little community away from the crowds you find in Bar Harbor and Camden. However, we had easy access to Belfast, Searsport, Stockton Springs and its harbor, Deer Isle, Stonington, Castine, Ft. Knox at Bucksport, Blue Hill, Rockport and Rockland. Belfast, a short 15 miles away, has all you'd need...a great supermarket, bakery, shops, restaurants, a brewery, and a harbor view...a perfect place.
Susie was more than accommodating. When I told her the dvd wouldn't work, she bought a new flat screen tv with a built in dvd player. Problem solved.
It appears that Susie lives in the house during the off season. If I changed anything, I'd toss lots of the old papers and things stored in closets and under the cabinets. I'd also change the cabinets in the kitchen. The glass doors scared me every time they banged shut when I wasn't careful.
I'd recommend this home for anyone wanting a truer Maine experience away from the tourist crowds. It's a lovely spot, and I'd go there every summer if I could.
Our second time renting here, and have had a great experience both times. The views from this property are spectacular (and having grown up on the coast of Maine I am used to pretty views). The panoramic includes the hills as far east as Camden, and past Castine to the West, with the panoramic made more beautiful because the property sits up on stone ledge/bluff/cliff that is about 40 feet above sea level.
The setting is very quiet and peaceful. Walking the beach on Sunday morning the porpoises sounded like whales because it was this quiet (no kidding). There is no traffic noise at this location from a highway, a local road, the street on which the house sits . . . none. There is a pig next door . . . but we have never heard it (really). We only saw it once. The stars at night from the deck are beautiful (can see the Milky Way when the moon is not out); the sunsets are beautiful.
The house itself was fine. It was clean, has all the amenities, and the owner is very helpful if you need something. It is an 'open' floor plan so early in the morning or late at night one needs to take care to be quiet, but we had no issues with this. There is access to sea kayaks and bikes at the house.
There also is loads to do within an hour of Stockton Springs in terms of history and art: a state park down the peninsula that you can walk to and go swimming off of the pier; Camden; Wyeth museum in Rockland; Castine (French, English, Dutch, neat local museum); Belfast (old district is beautiful and has an excellent, high end restaurant . . . Del Vino's?). A little further away are museums in Brunswick (Bowdoin) and Waterville (Colby), both with world class exhibits from time to time, often in the summer to coincide with the tourist season. The beach on which the house is located is a stone beach and searching for sea glass is fun..
So, this is a neat place to spend a week! (or two . . . and I am in no way related to the owner).
We just returned from spending another wonderful week at this great home in Maine. The views are spectacular and I especially love looking out the front bedroom window at night and seeing the stars and the ocean from the bed. The beach is fun to walk and collect seaglass. The owner is lovely. We met the pot bellied pet pig next door and it is very cute. He did not make any noise while we were there. This home is off the beaten path and offers a very relaxing and quiet vacation. You can walk to Fort Point Lighthouse just down the road or walk around Cape Jellison. Searsport, Belfast, Ellsworth, Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are easy drives and provide shopping, nature, hiking, biking, exploring the Maine coast, arts and dining. Or relax on the deck and enjoy the gardens and ocean life. We saw seals and dolphins on this trip.
Two of the bedrooms are loft style with cutouts overlooking the first floor with one looking out windows to the ocean. We had four adults and had no problems with noise. The house was clean, as always, and very inviting.
We plan on coming back and renting this house next year. From reading the one negative review on this home, I assume this person was someone who wanted to find fault with this place. This is a lovely home and I'm happy it is available for rent so I can spend time in one of my favorite places. Maine!
Our family of six spent a wonderful vacation this summer here. In fact we enjoyed it so much that we have booked several weeks next summer. The house is large, clean, and very comfortable. There is a spectacular view from nearly every room, and the long typical rocky Maine beach is just steps away. We enjoyed getting a glimpse of the funny little pet pig next door while we played croquet on the large lawn overlooking the Penobscot Bay. The gardens are lovely and the charming owner is delightful and helpful.
Hiking, biking, kayaking, walking. 1/2 Mile to Fort Point State Park and Lighthouse. 6 Miles to Fort Knox Historical Park. 12 Miles to Belfast, quaint village offering art studios, shops, and restaurants, sightseeing, and kayaking tours. 30 Miles to Camden, Mt. Battie state Park, fine art galleries, and fine dining, kayaking, biking, sailing. 40 Miles to Bar Harbor and to Acadia National Park, the only National Park on the east coast of the United States.
