About John & Kathleen
We've been married over 20 years and have two boys. The more time we spend in Ligonier and the Laurel Highlands, the more we can't wait to return. Our hope is to retire to this home someday and enjoy all of the areas beauty more fully. Until then, our hope is that you will share in the blessing, rest, and enjoyment The Finch House has to offer.
John & Kathleen purchased this House in 2017
Why John & Kathleen chose Ligonier
This has been a labor of love. From the ground up, we have designed and built this home with you in mind. We've attempted to address every detail and concern, making sure your stay is as comfortable as possible.
What makes this House unique
Conveniently located just minutes from historic Ligonier and the surrounding Laurel Highlands, the home blends beautifully with the surrounding mountain laurels and pines. Serenity awaits at the end of a dead end street on 110' of clear, mountain fed, Mill Creek where even in the dead of winter you'll be tempted to leave the windows open just to hear the babbling water roll by.

more than we could have asked for
John touched base with us several times before our vacation, always checking about our needs. He called us when we arrived to make sure everything went smoothly. The home was 10 to fifteen minutes from our destinations, Idlewild Park and Fort Ligonier. The home is exactly as presented in the photos and descriptions. Appliances are high end as well the vacuum cleaner, which was available and not locked up. Plenty of pots, pans, utensils, dishes etc. The supplies were in abundance, more than the typical 2 dishwasher pods and more than a small amount of dish soap. More than enough linens as well as extra blankets. There are room darkening drapes in the downstairs bedroom only. Plentiful DVD's, children's books, board games and Roku. Their property is lovely. The children played in the creek in water shoes. It was cold but kids don't care. There are very few rules. There are also only a few, typical housekeeping tasks before leaving. These arrive through your email the day before your departure. All 7, in our multi generational family, enjoyed our time here.
I was extremely pleased with this property. The pictures did not do it justice. Very nicely decorated with a homey comfortable feel. The owner goes out of his way to ensure you have everything you need, always giving it a personal touch. He reached out himself instead of just allowing automation to interact. The creek is a nice backdrop, feeling of tranquility.
Clean and beautifully decorated.
The house was perfect for our 2 family get- together. We went snow tubing at hidden valley resort - about 35-40 min drive and wanted to explore Linn Run state park (which is very close and has a water fall)—- but our first afternoon was raining and the next day was freezing!!! That said, the house is in a beautiful area with many things to do. Also, the house is stocked with games, and kids watched a movie on the huge television. Beds were more comfortable than our mattresses at home. The town of Ligonier is very cute- seriously looks like a Hallmark movie. There is a scenic drive very nearby with farms and stone/ log homes.
The house even had a ninja coffee pot and electric blankets! We loved it! Thank you!
Great house, Great owners
Stayed at the Finch house for Thanksgiving. Not only is the house excellent; the owners do a great job of making you feel welcome and are very easy to work with. Great house for families, very close to town, Fort Ligonier and super clean. Highly recommend the Finch House.
This is a beautiful house in a great location. The house is absolutely wonderful inside and it is large enough for a family to really enjoy the setting. It was cold and rainy when I stayed so I didn't get to fish in the stream or sit by the fire pit but I imagine that under different circumstances this would really be fun. We did however get to build a fire in the fireplace and eat popcorn in front of the big screen TV which we really enjoyed after a long day. I highly recommend this rentall
Cozy Cozy Cozy
Loved this house! Charming beyond expections. Although it did not influence our trip in any way, I thought it was in a more secluded area so was surprised to see it’s on a street lined with other houses. Owner was helpful and very accommodating. Will be booking again next fall for girls weekend.
