Mary, the owner, is amazing and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. She gave us great recommendations for hiking and let us borrow some gear. The cabin was incredibly peaceful and serene. There were beautiful spiderwebs, butterflies and frogs right outside the door. The sounds of the creek, the locust and relative silence were exactly what we needed to unplug from city life.
Needs much needed TLC
Needs much needed TLC like a thorough cleaning, new doors, etc. When we arrived we noticed a serious army ant problem in the kitchen. The bed is very uncomfortable , however the Scenery was beautiful.
The Ivy Cottage was built during the end of the great depression. Hard working ,coal mining families threw their pennies in a pot to purchase the lovely creekside land. Its unique setting is situated at the deep base of a dense forrest.
Much of mother nature is living right outside the front doors of the Ivy cottage, problem evolves because"their" always wanting to come in and play! Lol We do our best at keeping them out but sometimes they are smarter then we are! In and around the cottage we attempt to not use any toxic chemicals being located so close to a freshwater trout stream.
The cottage was built with a gathered truckload of old bricks. Each devastating flood has not chipped away their character or strength. It does cause the old bones to shift in high humidity and were constantly tweaking and putting things back in place. This may cause the doors to stick a bit.
The new mattress is on the way!
Mary's cottage was exactly as described . A private and quiet little cottage too relax in.
Very easy .
Everything was perfect. Definitely coming back.
Very Enjoyable Weekend
The Ivy Cottage was really nice. Although there was miscommunication in the booking process, it was worked out before our arrival. While the cottage was clean overall, my only complaint would be that the cottage could use a through cleaning in all the 'nooks & crannies' (on the top of the fridge, corners of the shower, etc.). Other than that, the creek is wonderful, the hot tub was nice after a long day of hiking & the wood stove makes for warm and toasty romantic evenings. Thanks Again!
Small Hidden Cabin
This was our second stay at this cabin. I love this place. We will definitely be back
Suggestions: needs updated kitchen products, needs new bed, bed was extremely uncomfortable. Also needs updated notes around the home, like regarding how to properly use the wood stove. Just needs general clutter clean up.
