Casa Yerbabuena sits on a quiet cul-de-sac in Colonia San Antonio, a 20-minute walk from the center of San Miguel. This is a traditional, Mexican-style house, decorated with art, Mexican textiles and handicrafts.
There are a total of four bedrooms. On the second floor, three bedrooms--one queen and two singles--share a bathroom with shower and tub. The bedrooms open onto a window-lined sun room and a balcony overlooking the garden. There is a fourth bedroom on the first floor, with a queen-sized bed and its own bathroom with shower.
The first floor has a spacious living room/dining area with a gas fireplace. The table in the dining area seats six. There is a fully-equipped kitchen with gas stove, oven, microwave and large refrigerator. The study has cable television and wireless internet hook-up. Our housekeeper comes 3 days a week to mop, dust and wash linens.
The patio garden, shaded by orange and lime trees, features a fountain and a table that seats six. Pink bourganvilla climbs up the walls. From the roof terrace, you can see the church spires in town and the mountains beyond. In the morning, a hot air balloon can often be glimpsed, floating over the rooftops.
San Antonio is a lively neighborhood where Mexicans, expatriates and vacationers live side-by-side. Small shops and restaurants line the cobbled streets. There are language schools and art schools, including the famous Instituto Allende, within a 10-minute walk from the house, over non-hilly terrain. Casa Yerbabuena is perfect for families, couples, singles and for anyone who enjoys living in-town and wants to take an active part in the life of San Miguel. It's not necessary to have a car to get around town--since you can walk or catch a taxi.
Truly enjoyed our two-month stay in this house. It was our first time, though we've been to San Miguel half-a-dozen times over the last seven or eight years, always renting a house. We like the idea of feeling at a 'home', and this place has it in spades. Spacious, comfortable, clean, and just a delight to be in (kitchen gets special mention -- Diane's a cocinera and knows whatof she speaks!). There was just the two of us for most of our stay (it was fun switching bedrooms every now and then just to enjoy the house's various senses of ambiance), but we did have our daughter and her two children (5 and 9) with us for a couple of weeks. They really enjoyed themselves, for the house and the patio and the terrace are wonderful to kick around and hang out in. Ditto for the neighborhood. So much to see and do -- close in (just north of Orizaba, one of the main east-west streets leading west off of the Ancha), we walked everywhere we needed/wanted to go, and ate ourselves silly in the various restaurants, cafes, storefronts, butcher shops, front stoops and hand-carts. San Antonio is a wonderful section of town, with warm, friendly people everywhere and streets just made for walking around and exploring. Erica, the housekeeper, is an absolute jewel, as is Arcadio, the gardener. Always welcoming and courteous, we never found them intrusive at all (actually looked forward to their arriving). The manager is just a few blocks away, and although we didn't have an occasion to see him much much when we did he was friendly and warm as well. Just a great stay at a great house in a great area in one of the best towns in Mexico -- must say we'll be back...
A well equipped home with a lovely sunny garden in a quiet convenient neighbourhood. Lots of restaurants closely as well as a gym and yoga studio. It is a comfortable walk to El Jardin, in the centre of town. The house had a well equipped kitchen, four spacious bedrooms, a den and comfortable living/dining room. Everything worked well. The owners, Frank and Mona, could not have been more accommodating. Special thanks to Erica, the wonderful housekeeper.
We were 6 people travelling in my family and we were all pleasantly accommodated. We discovered that San Miguel de Allende was the number one rated town according to Conde Nast 2013 and decided this is where my parents will be moving for their retirement!! We found this rental property to be especially well located and easy to walk to the town main square especially for my parents that are over 65. It is a very safe neighborhood with so many delicious restaurants especially Hecho en Mexico near the Institute and the restaurant located in the famous Rosewood Hotel as well as their rooftop tapas bar!! This review must not go without a special mention for the maid Ericka, she is outstandingly meticulous and a real gem to go along with this beautifully authentically decorated home! Communication with the owner was beyond satisfactory and even with a little booking hiccup they went beyond what was expected which made our stay even more special!! Even of my parents don't end up here permanently this rental property will be on top of our list!
Our stay this year was five very enjoyable and relaxing weeks. We had also stayed here in 2013 and this year the house was even more pleasant with the garden having matured more (everyday a dozen or two limes from the tree) and has been kept in great condition by the gardener. The neighborhood is a great mix of young and old, nationals and foreigners. A quiet dead end street made for relaxing times. One truly great addition this year is Erica, she'd just begun as the maid at the time of our trip and Frank and Mona have really stuck gold with her. She kept the house spotless, organized things for us, and went above and beyond in her attention to details and cleanliness. Many nice little restaurants within a couple blocks especially the little Italian restaurant on Orizaba three blocks away toward the Institute. Easy walking to Juarez Park and from there just a slight incline walk to the central jardine. We enjoyed our stay and would return again if we'd not bought a house in SMA during our stay.
My friend Camille and I stayed at this beautiful casa from May 17th to May 24th. The place shows better than the pictures and there is 4 bedrooms. The roof top terrace is just fabulous because of the incredible view of downtown San Miguel. Many mornings I went there to meditate. The owners have bought beautiful objects and art of mexico, it's part of the charm of the house. I imagine myself staying there again as it is lovely , easy to walk to the centre of the town, close to the bus station. It's a gem. And there are good little restaurants close by. We loved it! I can't wait to return!
We enjoyed our stay at the house very much; it was comfortable, airy and well organized. The rooms are wonderfully decorated with beautiful artwork and tasteful furnishings, and the patio is lovely. The housekeeper was quite helpful. The communication with the owners was efficient and pleasant and they were extraordinarily helpful in suggesting connections and informing us about the town. We found them to be extremely nice people!
Art classes and Spanish language classes available nearby. A variety of beautiful hot springs are located just outside of town.
