House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)
Casa Yerbabuena sits on a quiet cul-de-sac in Colonia San Antonio, a 20-minute walk from the center of San Miguel. It's a traditional, Mexican-style house, decorated with art and Latin American textiles and handicrafts, and the former home of famed Mexican folksinger Tehua--Maria del Rosario Rayas Trejo (1943-2014).
The property includes a large patio garden with a fountain and seating for six, as well as a spacious roof terrace with views of the Parroquia and the mountains to the north and east.
The house has four bedrooms. Three are on the second floor; one has a queen-size bed, one has a full-size bed and the third has two singles. These share a bathroom, with shower and tub. The bedrooms open onto a window-lined sun room and a balcony that overlooks the garden. There is a fourth bedroom on the first floor, with a full-size bed and a shower across the hall.
The first floor includes a spacious living room/dining area with a gas fireplace. The table in the dining area seats six. The fully-equipped kitchen has with a gas stove, oven, microwave and large refrigerator. The study has a flatscreen TV, a cable connection and wifi. The premises are maintained by a housekeeper and gardener.
San Antonio is a lively neighborhood where Mexicans, expatriates and vacationers live side-by-side. Small shops and restaurants line the cobbled streets. There are language schools and art schools, including the famous Instituto Allende, all within a 10-minute walk from the house, over non-hilly terrain.
Casa Yerbabuena is perfect for families, couples, singles and for anyone who enjoys living in-town and wants to take an active part in the life of San Miguel. It's not necessary to have a car to get around town, since you can walk or catch a taxi.

Great view, very comfortable, great service!
The communication from Frank and Mona was fantastic from the start. We felt at ease knowing all of our questions were answered and the response time was very quick.
The house is lovely and very clean. Plenty of space for our family of four, with more room than we needed. We appreciated the toddler gate on the stairs that was provided!
The patio downstairs gets great shade and it's so nice to sit there and cool off. The real show stopper is the rooftop deck - what amazing views! Plenty of space on both for outside dining and family time.
Lots of available dishes and other such necessities for staying a week. Having a washing machine was very helpful, and there are lines to hang laundry on the rooftop.
The cleaning lady was very nice and came a few times during our stay. She did a great job of making sure everything was comfy and prepared.
The neighborhood is fantastic, we really enjoyed the location, as well as the ease of walking to small places to eat in the area. It's a bit far for getting to the center by foot, though we did do it and it was fine - as long as you are in decent walking shape. :) For groceries past very limited essentials, you will need a car to get to the main/large market (and haul back your food). Just something to note, but again, it was not in any way an issue for us and we liked the quiet, friendly neighborhood.
It was a little difficult to find the apartment at first, as there are two streets with the same name, as well as various one-ways, and our GPS was pretty confused. Once you find it the first time (we had the help of the cleaning lady), you'll be good!
I definitely recommend this lovely home, and we would definitely stay again during our travels. Well worth it and a good price for SMA!
Best house ever
Best house in the twenty five years I have been renting in San Miguel. The house is lovely, spacious, nicely decorated and very well equipped. The location is excellent--a nice short walk to town. The house is most exceptional in that it is warm when it is cold in the evenings and cool in the day when it is hot. Best rooftop terrace of all time and a lovely backyard patio with a lime tree that we enjoyed gathering limes from. The maid and gardener both were very efficient and charming. The house is wonderful.
Amazing views in a traditional Mexican home. Easy walk to centre of town. Very enjoyable experience.
The photos very accurately portray the property. We found there was a lot of room for six people. Beds are comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The furniture and art illustrate the care and attention the owners have shown this property. We hope to be back and stay at this property in San Miguel in the future!
We're glad you enjoyed your stay at Casa Yerbabuena, Eileen.
Lovely house at a good price
We love Casa Yerbabuena and had stayed for a month once before 5 years prior. Since then the rooftop terrace has been developed with shade and sitting area. Also a comfy loveseat in the living room. A switch to a more comfortable seat in the TV room would be nice as we are World Series fans and the current seating was painful for long periods. The house is otherwise very comfortable and nicely decorated. The owners are wonderful to deal with. The housekeeper is top notch and pleasant, the Gardner helpful and speaks english. Lovely back patio with fountain and fresh limes. Nice neighbourhood and friendly neighbours. Great new tiny coffee bistro just around the corner. Walking distance to The Instituto, great restaurants, and downtown. Easy to grab a cab or bus around the corner. Great house, great price! Be sure to take the La Canada de la Virgen tour with Albert Coffee including the meal and astronomy talk. It was a highlight for us this time.
Lovely House with Incredible Views
Casa Yerbabuena is a lovely Mexican home in the vibrant and convenient neighborhood of San Antonio. We just returned from a six week stay in this home and were overall very pleased. We have been to San Miguel many times and have rented many beautiful homes in various neighborhoods. San Antonio is one of our favorite locations, and Casa Yerbabuena will be remembered as one of our favorite homes. It is large, authentically Mexican, filled with original art and artifacts, and has beautiful gardens and views. The owners, Mona and Frank, were excellent to deal with and couldn't have been nicer. The property manager was responsive and helpful, and the housekeepers and gardener were very friendly and capable.
The only problem we had with the house is that the master bedroom upstairs (the only one with a queen size bed) shares a wall with the house next door. Although the family there were generally quiet, they often stayed up late and always got up quite early. The downstairs bedroom was by far the loveliest and quietest, but it had only a full size bed which is not ideal for a couple. We worked it out; but again, it wasn't an ideal situation.
The most preferable places to be at this home are the two gorgeous patios. The patio downstairs has lovely plants, a lime tree, and a wonderful fountain. This is the perfect spot to have coffee, eat a meal, or just relax. On the rooftop terrace the views are breathtaking, and this became a favorite place to take in a little sun and to enjoy the sunsets and cool evenings. The plants and flowers on both patios are gorgeous and well taken care of.
As I mentioned, we were overall very pleased with our stay at Casa Yerbabuena (once we figured out the sleeping situation), would definitely consider staying here again, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.
We're glad you loved our house and enjoyed the new rooftop terrace. You were certainly excellent guests. Our neighbors are lovely people and usually pretty quiet. If we'd known about the issue, we would have tried to resolve it. Thank you for the feedback and hope to see you again.
Couldn't ask for better!
Casa Yerbabuena is a gem!! It is obvious that the owners sometimes stay in the house because they have thought of everything! The house is very spacious and comfortable. Everything you could think of needing is in place. We especially loved the interior patio and roof top terrace...there is a spectacular Parroquia view and we enjoyed going up there for Happy Hour wine and cheese and sunsets! We also hosted a few parties and the house is great for that as well. Tho we generally didn't need all the space we had, it was very nice to have spare bedrooms available when we had guests for a few weeks. The neighborhood was great...easy to walk everywhere and friendly neighbors, etc. No noise issues as we had in our rental the winter before. The staff were also friendly, kind and helpful.
We highly recommend Casa Yerbabuena to all!
Art classes and Spanish language classes available nearby. A variety of beautiful hot springs are located just outside of town.
