This old fashioned, traditional New England cape has a kitchen, dining room, and living room on the first floor. The living room has a cozy wood burning fire place. Three bedrooms and full bath are upstairs. The master bedroom has a queen bed. The smaller bedrooms have two twins each. There is a lovely ocean view from the upstairs bedroom and the front lawn. There is a great back yard for having barbecues and for children to play.
The house is a minute's walk to the secluded little beach where you can sit and read a book, splash and swim in the water or view spectacular sunsets. It is a stone's throw from the quaint village where you will find a grocery store (with lobster pound), gift shop and post office. And it is a five-minute walk to the lovely 2 1/2 mile white sandy beach where you will enjoy long afternoons in the sun. This beach is perfect for long walks, swimming and surfing. The children love to lounge and splash in the tide pools.
Summer rental only: Our house is only set up for summer rentals.
After several years of putting money into invisible places, such as rewiring the entire house, rebuilding the foundation and shoring up the chimney we recently gave each room in the house an interior face lift. Nearly every wall in the house has been either painted or wallpapered in the last few years. We have a new Washer/Dryer unit that runs like a dream. The Dining Room floor has been freshly sanded and stained and all the chairs that needed it have been re-caned. We purchased brand new 300 thread count bamboo sheets for all of the beds and new fluffy towels. We purchased a locally made picnic table for the yard with a lovely umbrella for the center so you can enjoy your meals outside if you like. All in all I think you will be very pleased with all of the changes that have taken place.
Our house has been in the family for generations - Peter's father grew up in the house in the 1920's. We love it and have kept as much of it's original character as possible while maintaining it well with skill and love.
Kate Binzen purchased this house in 1915
Kate and Peter were considerate and accomodating hosts. The cottage is in a great location and was comfortable and well equipped. We would definitely return.
This rental is even lovelier than the listing suggests. The house is charming - clean, cozy, very tastefully furnished and decorated, thoughtfully set up for guests, and is in a peaceful, quiet location. The walk to both beaches is very accessible -- it's easy to spend all day at the water, but there is great biking and kayaking from the house as well. The village is a lovely walk away and we enjoyed getting around on foot. The owners couldn't be more pleasant and helpful. We loved our stay, would recommend this rental in a heartbeat, and hope to return -- Thank you!
Biddeford Pool is the beach of my childhood and I have summered there every summer of my life. This cottage is the best, by far, of the many rentals I have tried. The location is perfect, the street private and quiet, both the small and larger beaches within walking distance, the kayaking and biking excellent, the sunsets breath-taking and the cottage itself is like having your own B&B. I could not have been more pleased.
Charming home, steps from the sea in a wonderful setting! What's better than that on vacation?! The house is well cared for, very comfortable and beautifully decorated in a classic beach house way. You can easily walk to all parts of "the Pool", from "the point" where the rocky beach is gorgeous and fascinating to navigate and appreciate geologic history, to "big beach" which is great for swimming and sunning to the "Pool Street Market" which seems to have everything you might need - food, wine and supplies. Biking too was great fun, on and off "the Pool". And, of course, "little beach" is just down the street from the house - a great place from which to view spectacular sunsets and to enjoy a picnic. Locally, we had a sensational dinner one evening at "Earth", about 10 minutes drive away. The tour of the Pepperell Mills, once one of the main economic drivers of Biddeford and the surrounding area, was fascinating, with the tour guides, each of whom had spent 40+ years working at the mill, offering personal anecdotes about life at the mill and in Biddeford as well as insights into the operations and history of the mills themselves. If you get to Portland, there's plenty to do but top of our list is the Standard Baking Co., which has a selection of some of the most outstanding baked goods we've ever had. And while you have your feet up in the living room at this home, or are basking in the sun at the beach, pick up the house copy of Anita Shreve's Fortune's Rocks for a fun read set on Biddeford Pool. All in all, we couldn't have asked for a better spot for our vacation week. Highly recommended!
Our family of four had the most picture-perfect, comfortable, simple yet invigorating, and bonding family vacation in Kate's wonderful beach cottage. We loved the kayaking (just walk a hundred yards down the street to Little Beach) and the biking is spectacular. My husband is a serious road biker & loved the long, flat, safe roads to Kennebunk, Wells & even Portland. We stayed for the charity bike ride for MS -- the Great Maine GetAway at nearby UNE -- FANTASTIC!!! The kids loved the freedom to ride & run anywhere in this perfect little beach village. Thank you Kate for a wonderful stay & great memories!!
Our first visit to Maine started in Biddeford Pool, which was already a chance in itself as the village is stunning. Furthermore, the house was charming, with lots of features one could almost find in a museum as the owners made a point of keeping it "old fashioned". As old fashioned as it was, it was also comfortable and cosy. The 5 of us had plenty of space and soon became familiar with the environment (small and big beaches, store, restaurant, all reachable by foot). Being French, we tend to be rather fussy about having enough equipment to cook and eat (one of our favourite past time) and we had all we needed. The icing on the cake: the owners are extremely helpful and friendly, whether before or during our stay. In other words, we strongly recommend this rental.
Thank you for having us!
Biddeford Pool is a sleepy town that will take you back in time. It is a wonderful place for children to ride bikes and scooters; there are nature walks and an Audubon preserve. You can climb on the rocks by the ocean or walk on the sandy beach. It is a wonderful spot for kayaking or sailing - choose the calm 'pool' waters or the more exciting open ocean. From just about everywhere on the 'Pool' you will see incredibly beautiful views of the ocean, boats and nearby islands. You can even kayak out to nearby Wood Island for a tour of the lighthouse. Biddeford Pool is the perfect secluded summer spot for a family vacation. If you are looking for shopping, great restaurants or nightlife, Biddeford Pool is near lots of hot spots: Kennebunkport, Freeport (with L.L. Bean one of its many wonderful shops), Old Orchard Beach with its amusement park and lovely Portland with so many terrific restaurants and museums are all within 10 - 20 miles of Biddeford Pool.
