We stayed at this home last weekend while visiting family in Alexandria. The home is very nice, clean & modern. There were 8 of us in the home and we were very comfortable there. Nice big deck where we enjoyed our morning coffee and sits on a small, quiet & beautiful lake. The path to the lake is a little steep, but there is a very nice fire pit with chairs and it is a very peaceful place to sit, relax and enjoy the view.
Fun week in Alexandria
We enjoyed our week at this wonderful house. It was big enough to provide our family of 12 with bedrooms for each family spread out enough so the little ones could sleep when necessary. The bunkbeds also provide great spaces for families. The kids loved the big swing and always had to stop there on the way down to the lake. Great clear lake with not a lot of traffic. The big fishermen in the family were a little disappointed in the lack of bigger fish, but the little fisher people love the sunnies off the dock. I would say our only down side was the hill down to the lake. We just made a real effort to take down what we needed the first time. We also appreciated the proximity to Alexandria and the activities there. Thanks for a fun week!
Our stay here was a wonderful weekend of lake time and yard games and indoor games with enough space for us all! The hill to the lake was steep for us with getting our daughter up and down too; but loved our stay!! Thank you!
A wonderful place
I would have given this property a 5 star rating except for the fact that there was no internet/WiFi connection, even though the description on VRBO indicated there would be. When I contacted the property manager, he simply wrote “sorry, there is no internet available” (meaning, I guess, there never was any). Everything else about the property was great...the house itself, the lake view, the location, etc. we could get most anywhere in town within 10 minutes or so.
Large clean house, outside not ideal
Overall we had a good family week and this house had the space for our family of 10. Indoors, it was nice and clean. Outdoors, this is not ideal for a large family that wants to spend time near the water. Although it makes a decent rental, the rate for this one is way too high.
It wasn't the “lake cabin” we were looking for our family to be by/on the water for the week. The elevation was very steep with no stairs (just a few concrete blocks) and no handrail. The rocky shoreline and no dock space was not conducive to having two boats with us for fishing, tubing, swimming, etc. There is a nice bonfire pit by the dock but we didn’t get to enjoy that since our parents weren’t able to easily get down there and back up to the house. (we still enjoyed the fire pit in the front yard once) I was expecting some elevation according to the pictures, but not the steepness that it was. We had a toddler with that could actually fit her whole body through the spindles on the back deck railing, so that was always a concern, so she wouldn't fall. The landscaping crew arrived at 8 am Thursday morning to mow, and the gun range in the area (across the lake) was very noisy also.
The VRBO post was incorrect on a few things: it indicated I would be contacted with a lockbox code to get in, but I was not. I reached out to the owner/manager the day before we arrived and was told the key would be under the mat. (and it was – no issues.) The VRBO post indicated there IS wi-fi at the house, but there is not. But, we didn’t need wi-fi anyhow – the house was equipped with great TV, cable, movies, etc when the kids needed quiet time.
This is the 10th year we have rented from VRBO, and have stayed at many different places. Although this house was to be well equipped, we thought otherwise. The kitchen was nice and updated, but the face of the drawers were coming off/ broken so when you pull the drawer out, everything was loose. The ice maker was broken and the fridge was small. The can opener was broken (which is an issue when you bring a lot of food!), there were no kitchen dish towels or dish rags, and the garbage can was sized for 2 people (again, we had lots of food and lots of people!) We made a few trips to Wal Mart for things we needed, no problem. They were all things that didn't ruin our vacation by any means, but worth mentioning in a review......
Thank you so much for your feedback. This is our first year renting out our home on VRBO. We've had very positive responses to date, and appreciate the feedback as we strive to improve our home and experience for everyone who books. We have updated the online listing to reflect the items you've mentioned, as well, we are adding items to the kitchen, etc., that you mentioned. We've also changed the description of the lakeshore and incline down to the lake, and are looking at options for next summer to make it easier/more accessible for our guests to get down to the lake. Again, we appreciate the feedback and hope to make our home a destination for many more folks to enjoy!
Breathtaking views on a relaxing lake!
We enjoyed a fabulous summer getaway on Lake Burgen, our families ranged in age from 4 years old to 52 and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The lake home is super clean and there was plenty of room for our party of 10. It was well stocked with everything we needed or could want and the setting is fabulous. We enjoyed morning coffee on the deck overlooking the lake and listening to the loons sing. The kids loved swimming by the dock and there is a nice shallow, sandy entry into the lake. We kayaked and paddle boarded all over the lake. Even had loons swim close to us while in the kayaks – what a treat! There was great fishing right off the dock and we spent many hours catching lots of different kinds. We rented the boat and really enjoyed being out on the water. The kids had a blast tubing! The lake is large enough to enjoy all the toys but small enough to remain peaceful and not real crowded. Every evening we had a bonfire right by the lake and enjoyed spectacular sunsets! This was a great vacation we will never forget!
Alexandria is a neat little town too with a wonderful main street and cute little shops and restaurants. Close to the Winery too! I have heard the Grape Stomp in September at the winery is lots of fun…that may be the next time we rent at this great location!
