Just 12 quick miles from Yosemite's South Gate and perched at the edge of a granite falls, the Waterfalll House at Neely Mill on Lewis Creek is Ideal for a romantic getaway, vacation with friends or family adventure. The house comfortably sleeps two in the master suite’s giant sleigh bed and two in the Murphy queen bed at the far end of the great room; a toddler bed and portable crib are also available for young families. The heart of the home is the giant stone wall and hearth with a new gas-log fireplace insert that lights at the turn of a timer switch. New advanced heating/air conditioning units in the great room and master bedroom keep you comfortably warm in winter and cool in summer. Your people-friendly and well-behaved dogs (up to two) are welcome for an additional fee. Beyond your adventure in Yosemite National Park, activities abound — boating, fishing and swimming at Bass Lake (6 mi.), hiking the Lewis Creek Trail; driving up Road 632 to the Nelder Grove giant redwoods (9 mi.) and Fresno Dome (14 mi.); relaxing with a book in front of the fireplace; and sunning yourself on the deck. The town of Oakhurst is just 6 mi., too, for shopping and restaurants. Send me a note for our personal favorites!

About Larry "Doug" Van Aman
My name is Doug Van Aman. Although my wife and I live in Reno now, this home was our first in California after we were married in 1982. I inherited the property in 2017 and made extensive renovations over the last few months. I've lived in many places around the world but we have always come back here. It's home.
Larry "Doug" Van Aman purchased this House in 2017
Why Larry "Doug" Van Aman chose Oakhurst
My roots run deep on this property. My maternal grandfather, Claud Neely, owned the mill next door back in the 1950s. When he sold in the 1960s, my grandparents kept this 2.6 acre parcel on Lewis Creek. They built their home in the 1960s -- that's the large home at the end of the road. And even earlier, my mom's brother, Uncle Cecil, built the A-frame on the top of the hill. After my mom's parents died, the property passed to my parents in the mid-70s. Now, the property has passed to me. So why this property? It's in my blood.
What makes this House unique
Just 12 miles to the South Gate of Yosemite South Gate. Perched on Lewis Creek. For the slightly more adventurous who want to avoid the crowds, it's just 9 miles to the Nelder Grove of redwoods and 13 miles to Fresno Dome, with miles of hiking trails, wilderness roads, streams, meadows and small lakes along the way. Bass Lake, a popular regional destination for boating, water skiing, fishing and hiking, is 6 miles. Shopping and restaurants in the gateway town of Oakhurst are just 6 miles, too. Last but not least, the proximity to Lewis Creek: You can hear and see the waterfall from every room; you can't build this close anymore.

My husband and I are VRBO hosts ourselves, and very experienced travelers who have stayed in many short-term rentals and exchange houses. We have pretty high standards, but we've also learned that there's almost always something at least mildly disappointing or that requires overlooking. Not here. This (spacious) little house is thoughtfully renovated and furnished, and spotlessly clean, and Doug has been warm and forthcoming in communicating. The setting is a stunner, and the deck just over the falls a delicious place to waste a sunny October afternoon...
Jonathan was a perfect guest, taking great care of our home and bringing to my attention new helpful information to include in my home manual. I hope he and his husband have another opportunity to stay with us for a future Yosemite visit. They are always welcome!
great location, good security, FREE and safe parking,
Beautiful location, quiet, private, and close to Yosemite, great people to deal with. I would definitely recommend this location. My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer. Easy to find, close to main roads.
Private location close to Yosemite
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful house with us in Oakhurst. What a wonderful Vacation we had and it all started with your rental. We really enjoyed Yosemite and your place was right outside their gate making it so easy to commute to the park everyday. The house is nicely furnished, very private and sits right on the river which we enjoyed while having our coffee. We found the town of Oakhurst to be fun and had everything you would want within a very short drive. We had an excellent stay and would definitely stay here again when we return to the area.
Secluded and peaceful
Beautiful property to relax and unwind. Immaculate. Caring hosts who take pride in their property and ensure guests enjoy their stay.
Kim and her husband were wonderful stewards of our Water Fall House on Lewis Creek. She was very kind and clear in her communications in the days leading up to their stay. My wife and I are delighted that they had a fine time at our home for their Yosemite getaway -- and can't wait to be their hosts again!
Charming Honeymoon Stay
We recently stayed at the Lewis Creek house for our honeymoon. The location was perfect. It is adorable, quiet, relaxing and has everything you need for your stay (even shampoo!). Doug and Judy were great hosts, they even did something special for us in honor of our honeymoon! Doug provided very clear explainations on directions, where things were in the house and things to check out in the area. We had a great stay and highly recommend this home.
Kayla and David were fantastic guests who took full advantage of the area's amenties -- from Yosemite, to Bass Lake, to the Sierra National Forest, to Sequoia National Park. They were great stewards of our home, taking great care of our Water Fall House on Lewis Creek as if it were their own. I would host them again and again, and hope they come back for future visits!
Beautiful property! Incredible host!
The pictures do not do it justice! This is a beautiful property. The waterfall outside provides such a relaxing environment to get away from it all. It is centrally located with easy access to Yosemite. The host pays such attention to detail from the goodie basket when you arrive to tide you over until you get supplies to the advice on things to do in the area. It was the perfect house for my family of 4! We look forward to visiting again!
Thank you so very much for your kind review, Cody. I enjoyed sharing information about things to do in the area, and I'm delighted to hear that the snack selection was helpful. I truly hope you and your family DO visit us again!
