We are native New Englanders who have settled in our retirement home on a lovely private lake in New Hampshire. Having retired in 2005, we decided we needed a cabin closer to our three children who live in Virginia and Tennessee. We were fortunate to stumble upon this wonderful cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains that had just been built. The four wonderful winters we have spent there have allowed us to enjoy the winter sports in the area and the milder climate. We share our special place in the mountains in the spring, summer and fall. Enjoy!
Jan and Fred Sallah purchased this cabin in 2005
Nature is apparent all around the cabin and since we love the outdoors, this was an ideal location for us. We enjoy bird watching, hiking and just relaxing in the solitude of the mountains. This cabin has given us a perfect opportunity to enjoy all of this.
"Thank you for sharing your cabin with us. We have had a very memorable time; the view is remarkable and the cabin very comfortable. We appreciated your flexibility" (concerning the last minute rental).
We had a lovely stay at the cabin. I think we at more meals on the porch than at the table inside. I liked coming "home" every day and seeing the flowers loaded wiht butterflies. My father and son and I walked up the salt lick but of course didnt see anything because of the noise we were making trapsing thru the woods. We did see wild turkey, hawks, butterflies, possibly a golden eagle, the rabbit that greets you as you come up the driveway. The movie collection is current and has something for any taste. Laundry room is nice and very handy after those hiking and rafting trips.
If you decide to stay in this cabin, find Oliver Hill Road, especially 1 hour to 30 min before sunset, the open rolling hills and houses / farms are spectacular and very close to the cabin.
No AC for those coming up during really hot times I would say open all the windows and turn on the fans. Only one night was uncomfortable for sleeping, all other nights were nice and cool. My husband is a runner and he tried to run on the gravel roads but there are just too many dogs running about. Most friendly but a couple not so much...
The cabin offers a fantastic mountain experience. We loved the view from the living room. You see beautuful trees and foilage and a barn.
There are waterfalls and streams nearby and the moon and stars are beautiful at night. The kitchen has everything that is needed for a gourmet meal and the beds are very comfortable. There is a loft above the living room that has a large tv, lots of videos , and a foosball table that our grandson loved. We all enjoyed the hot tub located on the deck. We look forward to going back!!
We really enjoyed our stay in the cabin. When we walked in we felt like we were home. The master bedroom and bathroom are AMESOME!!! The cabin was extremely clean and the kitchen is ridiculously well stocked. The laundry room has an awesome front loading washer where the owners provided all supplies to do laundry. It has an amazing deck for sipping coffee while soaking in the terrific view of the mountains. The hot tub which is new for 2016 was awesome. It was the first trip our family had taken together to the mountains and it was a memorable one for our children as well as us. The owners are super easy to work with. The location is a little off the beaten path but who wants a bunch of people around when you're enjoying a beautiful secluded cabin in the mountains. I will say the house does not have central AC which does not matter during peak season but in the summer it can get a little warm in the house, so if you are hot natured you may want to pack a couple fans for the downstairs bedrooms. The upstairs master has a window unit that keeps that room nice and comfy. Overall, I would go back right now and stay another week if I could we loved it that much. You will not be disappointed with your stay.
The cabin was so cozy with all the accommodations you need. The owners thought of everything. We enjoyed the beautiful views, the hot tub, grilling out and waking up to the mountains. Just what we needed. Our family of four enjoyed our time and we each had plenty of room.
I loved the pictures of this cabin, but seeing it in person was way better than I could have imagined. I could have sat outside all day, in the chairs, drinking coffee, but we were there to visit Tweetsie. :) I wish we could have stayed a couple more nights. We definitely took advantage of sitting in the hot tub and looking at the view. The kitchen was great, it has everything you could need. My family had the best time, making smores at the fire pit and running around the amazing porch. I could go on and on. After posting some pics of the view from the cabin on Facebook, everyone has asked me where it is, they cant wait to go visit. The owners had a coffee mug with a picture of the cabin on it and a little thing of coffee, waiting for us on the counter, when we got there. I just thought that was the nicest touch and it is my FAVORITE mug to drink out of now. We will definitely be back next year.
This is more than a vacation rental, it is a home. Spacious, all amenities, fully equipped kitchen, entertainment center in loft with family friendly DVD's, even a foosball table! Huge master bedroom with jacuzzi, hot tub on the deck with gorgeous views, quality furniture throughout. This is where you would want to take your family and closest friends. A respectable, impressive abode. Equidistant to Boone, Banner Elk and Valle Crucis, private and in the country. 5 Star.
In the heart of the NC High Country, you can either drive a short distance to all the attractions in the area (Grandfather Mt. activities, shopping, the Tweetsie Railroad, Valle Crucis, summer concerts, craft shows, dining at some really good area restaurants, and of course, the Mast General Store), or you can simply walk out the front door for some good hiking right in your backyard (Tom's Knob)!!
