Welcome to our guestbook. We are the property owners and wanted to give a little of our history and some more details. We purchased the property in Jan. 2005 and have done extensive upgrades to make this a very comfortable and enjoyable vacation home. Upgrades include new furnishings, paint, flooring, wall coverings and plumbing fixtures. This is our first season to rent this property so there are no previous rentors to sign our guestbook...this being the month of March 2005. During the rental season (Summer)we spend our time in Idaho closer to our kids and grandchildren. We feel very lucky to have found this choice spot as there are waiting lists to purchase bold open ocean frontage which is rare in Maine because of all the islands and coves. Please feel comfortable to call us about any questions or concerns. Best wishes and good luck on your vaction plans!Bruce and Nancy Erickson207-677-3220208-691-3981 cell
"Crashing Surf! Bold Open Oceanfront with Views" is a very accurate description of this beautiful Maine home. Pictures are very accurate, but seeing it for yourself is even better. Tricia was very responsive to all of our many questions we had about this rental. Our family is already looking forward to our next stay at this wonderful property.
The photos don't do justice to this remarkable setting. Deep silence broken only by the crashing of the waves on the rocks a few feet from the deck, or the occasional motor of a lobster boat hauling traps just a few hundred feet away. This is less about *what* is there and more about *why* it is there.
Others have described the house: a tad funky but nicely and comfortably furnished, each section is joined with a couple of steps and each bedroom has exterior doors, so it is possible to sleep in the far bedroom and get to the kitchen and living area without walking through other bedrooms.
The only downside is that there are one or two steps between most rooms. Not an issue unless you are in a wheelchair or have difficulty with steps. We have severe arthritis but managed to get around with a little improvisation: put a chair next to the kitchen steps to act as a handrail, etc. As I say, unless you have severe mobility issues the steps should not be a negative.
Lots of neat restaurants very nearby. Several great lobster wharves, ranging from outdoor picnic tables to sit-down service indoors. I had a great lobster at the Pemaquid Fisherman's Coop. Ordered a 2.5 pound male hard shell and that's what I got. Right out of the ocean. Nice people throughout the peninsula. Very friendly and down home.
That said, we spent a lot of our time just hanging at the house, reading and enjoying the restorative silence.
Very much worth the price. You don't find much better than this, if pounding surf and a pristine un-touristy environment is what you are looking for.
This is the second time my sister and I have stayed at this "cottage". There cannot be a more perfect spot! It is so wonderful to sit on the deck in the morning and listen to the birds and watch the lobster men work their traps. It is worth getting up for the sunrises. I had my "lobster boat" alarm clock helping me do that :> One morning we heard loons calling to one another; so exciting! After a day of sight seeing, nothing beats coming back to this warm and comfortable "cottage" to relax once again on the deck and watch night fall. It is such a comfortable house you feel guilty going off to sight see :> The area is well situated for your every need. Highly recommend this place. Working with Tricia, the owner was part of this wonderful experience. Hope to return next year!
We had a few concerns about the bedrooms...other reviews had mentioned that you had to go through all the other bedrooms to get to the others) but it wasn't a problem at all. Each bedroom has it's own private entrance from the front yard and there is a paved pathway to the front door which was fun to use. The house is so private...we saw one person on the rocks way down the beach the entire week! Once we walked in the house and saw the incredible view...we were happy that every bedroom was oceanfront with a view that is amazingly beautiful. There are two large dens so that you will always have some private area to read. The playroom was wonderful and almost all glass. Tricia has stocked it with everything you would ever need. We loved the town of New Harbor and the lobster pounds nearby. The only problem that I can find with that house was that it was so relaxing , comfortable and beautiful that it was hard to get our crowd of six to ever leave. When we went exploring it was always cut short because everyone wanted to get back to the house. You are on top of the water. The waves splash up right near the house! I am going to include some of my photos to show you the view from the house. You won't believe it. None of us had ever stayed in a more cozy place ...nor one we loved more. We have all been to many countries. It is a colorful and cheery house that revives you! I just noticed that there is no way to post photos...that is a shame!!! I will say that the house is extremely long to make every room oceanfront. You can even sit on the "John" and watch the lobstermen roll by if you keep the door open!
My sister and I saw the pictures above and knew that this was the vacation in Maine we had always dreamed about. It was even better than we imagined!
I don't know how to express the view other than repeating "SPECTACULAR"!! The house was just wonderful, very very comfortable, beautifully decorated and thoughtfully outfitted with every need. The kitchen was great and I loved the pots and pans. Normally rentals have pretty well used pans but these were a joy to cook on. (I know it sounds crazy for a vacation, but I love to cook and couldn't wait to whip up some meals with fish fresh off the docks).
Every morning we sat on the deck and watched the sunrise, the birds and the many lobster boats. Then we went out touring but always looked forward to coming back to our own little ocean. We loved the Turner Castle in Wiscasset, the botanical garden in Boothbay and the Farnsworth Museum in Camden. And you must drive up Mount Battie in Camden for a wondeful view!
Tricia (the owner) was very helpful and understanding of some personal issues we had prior to the rental date.
The location is convenient to every need and we met some very nice people in the area. We hope to be able to return soon and would definitely recommend this rental.
The chalk board sign next to the front door says it all – “welcome to paradise.” We recently returned from our second stay at this wonderful house and can’t wait to go back next summer. The views are absolutely breathtaking and the house is extremely comfortable and well equipped. New Harbor is not touristy (a plus for us!) but there is a lot to do within a very short distance, including a beautiful sandy beach, the Hardy Boat cruises to Monhegan Island (great hiking and views) and a puffin sanctuary, and Maine Kayak, which has reasonable rental rates. Shaw’s fish & lobster wharf restaurant is about five minutes away by car and is terrific. There is also a great ice cream shack within walking/biking distance and a well-stocked grocery store.
Pemaquid Lighthouse and Pemaquid Beach are both just minutes away. Enjoy lobster on the wharf while overlooking quaint New Harbor. Take an all-day excursion to Monhegan Island. Within an hour's drive you can reach Camden to the north and Freeport (LL Bean) to the south, giving you convenient access to all that the Boothbay region offers. Portland International JetPort is 1.5 hours away. Golf, fishing, fresh water lakes/ponds, swimming are all just minutes away. Several outstanding museums are close by including the Farnsworth Art Museum and Wyeth Center, the Maine Maritime Museum and the Owls Head Transportation Museum. Enjoy the convenience of a full service grocery with many gourmet and deli offerings only 1 mile from the cottage. Restaurants, bank, gas station, and post office are within 3 miles.
Other Activities: island excursions, lighthouse tours, Fort William Henry, Puffin watching
