A wonderful stay at a large, unique house in an adorable area!
I couldn't imagine having a better stay at one house that sleeps all 16 of our guests! We had a wonderful family gathering here. The house was very well-stocked, especially in the large kitchen. My family definitely enjoyed using the large pots for lobster boils! The only major con to note is that there is no AC. With Maine's weather, though, that wasn't a huge issue for most of our guests. Trish was very kind and helpful with any issues we had. If we have another Maine trip we will definitely think of this place first!
The house was large and accomodated our entire family of 16
The entire stay was comfortable and the home was quaint. A short walk to the water and a 45 minute drive to Bar Harbor. Double stoves and refrigerators were very helpful. The only negative thing I can say is the first floor half bath is out of order so you always have to gi to the second floor to use the restroom. Had a wonderful time!
We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at our home! We apologize regarding the situation with the first floor toilet. We are working to find a time that the plumber can repair it without disrupting our renters' vacation as the water may have to be off for a full day or more.
We are pleased that our home worked well for your group and that you liked the location. Hancock Point is a special place!
Great place for large family event
Our extended family, all 18 of us, had a really nice time staying in this large vintage Victorian house. There were enough bedrooms for all of our couples to have their own private rooms as well as others for the younger kids/cousins to share. The kitchen is quite large which allowed for relaxed breakfasts as everyone gradually trickled downstairs each morning to join in on the conversation. The sitting rooms were also large and allowed for everyone to feel like we were hanging out together. For those that wished to steal away, the large porches served as a lovely quiet oasis to read, snooze, or just sit. We enjoyed sitting out on the large patio in the back of the house at night, although I would advise anyone to bring a large supply of insect repellant. There is a gas grill which worked well. No fire pit, though, which would have been a nice feature for the cool summer evenings. The house was very clean and neat upon arrival. Plenty of linens are provided. There are 3 functioning bathrooms so we were rarely waiting for a shower. There is no AC but we did not really need it. My family stayed in the 3rd floor bedrooms and on the few nights when it was a bit warmer, the fans were enough to make sleeping comfortable. The house is located on a quiet peninsula with other homes which are all built into the woods and largely separated from one another, offering lots of privacy.
The location was nice as well. The biggest local attractions, Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, are about 35-40 minutes drive depending on traffic. We found it an easy drive, no problem to go there several times during our week long stay. Yet, we really appreciated staying outside of the congestion that area, which can get rather busy in the summer. The house is positioned well to easily enjoy all that the area has to offer but retreat back to the quite surroundings of Hancock Point. We enjoyed fishing off the local dock just a short walk from the house. We also launched kayaks from there. We don't have a boat but plenty of locals do and they are all docked there. Beautiful scenery to see the boats and the rugged Maine coastline! A bunch from our group enjoyed the local public library located just a 2 minute walk down the road.
Patricia was always very responsive to my questions and did all she could to help us have a a great stay. Our entire family was very happy with this house and we would all return again if we ever make it back to Maine.
large home perfect for large family vacations and gatherings
We visited Maine in July of 2017. My extended family (three families- total of 12 people) rented this home as a "home base" for the active vacation we were looking for in the Bar Harbor area. The children (4 ages 7-13) enjoyed the older home and the large surrounding yard as well as easy access to the pier for fishing and exploring in tidal pools. We enjoyed the multiple ovens and refrigerators as well as the many areas for spreading out and relaxing. It does get chilly at night so future renters should remember to bring appropriate clothes but there were ample blankets and several heaters if necessary. Great vacation. The owner was attentive and provided information for amenities in the local area. We really appreciated the back road directions to several higher traffic areas.
Trish..Our stay was great...the only issue we had was that there were no enough labels for trash based on the amount of trash left from the previous renter. As far as the stain goes I believe is was already there and I know we didn't spill anything on the deck. We never ate on the deck nor did we cook outside
A nice home in a quiet neighborhood
I have long wanted to visit New England and see some of the more remote areas, so this year we rented this home for a reunion for my family. It is located on a quiet, wooded peninsula. It is a large home with many bedrooms so, despite 16 of us, it never felt crowded. There are many areas in and around the home to relax and take in the quiet surroundings. The beds are comfortable. There was adequate bathroom space with us sticking to the 3 baths on the 2nd level. Amazingly, we never ran out of hot water. The property is close to the impressively clean beach where our children enjoyed splashing in the water and looking for shells. Bar Harbor and Acadia are about 45 minutes away, with more hikes and activities than we were able to fit in. There is a small grocery store a few minutes away, but we found ourselves going to the Walmart about a half hour away for organic groceries. We visited in early June during, apparently, unseasonably cool weather. Unfortunately, my father is particularly cold intolerant. The home is unheated, but the property owner, Trish, quickly responded to my needs to get some space heaters to make our stay more comfortable. I recommend this property.
Hancock Point is a classic summer community surrounded by water. The beautiful 'Point' includes a boat harbor (sailing lessons available), tennis courts (lessons also available), historic library, chapel, and post office all within an easy walk. Great for riding bikes or walking. Kayak rental also available. The nearby Crocker House Country Inn offers fine dining and additional guest accommodations. Other excellent dining opportunities within five miles. Just 25 charming miles away is Mount Desert Island with Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Also nearby are several freshwater lakes for fishing, boating, swimming, and hiking, as well as a public golf course. The town of Ellsworth with shopping (including L.L. Bean), restaurants, movies, and entertainment is just 15 minutes away. The Pierre Monteux conducting school offers evening concerts within 10 minutes. The perfect vacation get-away! Other Activities: Historic Library within walking distance.
