Kenai Peninsula Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 4 (5 with inflatable cot)

Give us a call--we love chatting about Homer, our cottage, about life, or whatever!

And welcome to Little Fireweed Cottage in Homer, Alaska! We strive to ensure that your experience at our cottage is one that stays with you forever. Whether you are in Homer just to relax and soak in the breathtaking views or here to dive into the multitude of outdoor activities this unique area of the world offers, we are confident that your stay at Little Fireweed Cottage will be one of the highlights of your trip.

Before we discovered the jewel that is Homer, we traveled around the world and stayed in many vacation homes along the way. We have taken many of those things, which we enjoyed the most when staying in those homes and have tried to incorporate them into our vacation rental.

Just recently built in 2006 on one and a half private acres, Little Fireweed Cottage was made to serve as a retreat and a home-away-from-home for those traveling for the 'Homer experience'. After a long day of fishing for halibut, sightseeing, or hiking, come home to cook up your seafood just the way you like it on the barbecue grill.

Pour yourself a glass of wine from one of our bottles on site and ponder whether it is time to melt away in the very brand new hot tub with its grand views or whether that should wait until after the movie you are going to watch on the flat-screen TV/home theater. If you're a night owl, there's always the fire pit up on the hill, with the swinging chair that turns into a bed.

We know that everyone has their own ways of doing 'vacation'. With that said, we believe that in whatever way you seek to find ultimate relaxation, Little Fireweed Cottage will serve you wonderfully in that endeavor.

About Ailsa or Tyson Hall

My wife is from New Brunswick, Canada and I am from Palmer, Alaska. Growing up six hours away, in the Matanuska Valley, I always loved the opportunity to get down to Homer to visit my family there. Since a very young age, Homer has held a very special place in my heart. I have traveled to over 40 different countries around the world but I have yet to see a place that matches the majesty of Homer, Alaska.

Be sure to take a trip across the bay if you come all this way. It's really a wonderful experience.

Ailsa or Tyson Hall purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Ailsa or Tyson Hall chose Kenai Peninsula

Ever since I was 13, it has been a dream of mine to own a piece of Homer. That dream came true in 2006! We were able to grab a great in-town lot with a wonderful view of Kachemak Bay! We built the cottage the same year we bought the land. We feel truly blessed!

What makes this cottage unique

The reason we got into Vacation Rentals is because we have stayed in many ourselves and like the idea of staying in a private home instead of a noisy, crowded hotel. As a result of those visits at various rentals across the nation, we came up with four very important qualities that we look for when booking a Vacation Rental and incorporated them into ours. They are, 1) The lodging must feel private, 2) It must be close to the town you are visiting, 3) It must have a HOTTUB!!, 4) If applicable, it must have a view. We are happy to report that we have checked all four of these boxes!! We are only two miles from lovely Homer, on almost one and a half private acres, with a great view that you can soak in while in the wonderful hot-tub!

We are proud of our cozy little cottage in Homer and are so confident that it will exceed your expectations and serve to be the retreat you need after coming all this way.

Such a slice of heaven!

  • 5 of 5

It's been a while since we stayed here but after a horrible experience with a VRBO property recently, I wanted to come back to the ones that I took for granted and put in my two cents to thank you! I know it can't be easy to please everyone but you all made it look easy!

This little cabin was perfect for our needs - a bedroom for our young son and a comfortable bedroom for us - beautiful views, a fantastic hot tub, and such a great location. We loved our time in Homer and hope to come back in the near future. If we do make it back, we will be looking at this cabin for our needs. Thanks for your hospitality!!!

The only issue we had was that there wasn't toilet paper, but it was easy to get a hold of the owner and we rectified it very quickly - great customer service!!!

AMAZING STAY

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cottage. It had all the necessities of home. My requirements for our trip to AK (from Colorado) were to have a washer and dryer and a comfy bed. This place scored high. The hot tub was awesome- even though I only stuck my feet in (preggers at the time), my husband used it almost every night. It was nice to be able to cook our own meals. The master bed was sooo comfy! And the bed linens were awesome. (beds are important to me, so if you are like me you will love this bed). The views spectacular and the wildlife was awesome. I woke up at 4.30am to use the restroom one morning and saw a HUGE moose next to our mid size rental car. IT WAS ENORMOUS! Lovely place, we can't wait to come back and make more good memories with our family. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!

Beautiful view of Homer and the bay

  • 4 of 5

We have been to Homer a number of times and have stayed in B&Bs. We chose VRBO this time because we were two couples traveling together.

The view of Homer and the bay is excellent. We enjoyed sitting inside and looking at the view. We didn't get to sit outside much because it was raining during our three days in Homer.

The location is quite private and lovely. I have no idea where the fire pit is located.

The second bedroom is a King bed from couch and trundle bed. I must have missed this in the original description. The master bedroom is lovely with a great view. We were two couples and the second bedroom is very tight.

The washer/dryer is in the bathroom and the bathroom too is quite tight.

It is a nice spot but if you are a party of four, it is cozy.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay and thanks for the review! It definitely is just as cottagy and cozy as the title suggests! We love that about it and its open concept design that makes it feel larger than it is. The fire pit is on the little hill just west of the cottage, right in front of the chair swing, and there is an even better view up there. Just to clarify, the second bedroom has a day bed (not a couch) with a pop-up trundle underneath. We have a memory foam connector and a king size pad should guests wish to connect these two beds and make a king bed. Sorry if that was not clear enough down in the description. :) We hope to host all (or even just part) of your company again one day! Thanks for staying at Little Fireweed Cottage!!!!

Lovely Cottage in Lovely Town

  • 5 of 5

We spent seven weeks in Alaska, exploring nearly every town accessible by road, but Homer had to be one of our favorites! This cottage had a beautiful view from the hot tub, overlooking the bay with the glorious snowcapped peaks behind it. Loved the town, the skyline drive, the spit, the shops and restaurants, the general store outside of town. A huge bonus for us was seeing Hobo Jim perform at AJ's Steakhouse. We've listened to his CDs for 30 years and coincidentally happened to be in Homer when he was performing! Love his music about Alaska!! Just enjoyed a great dinner with frozen halibut we bought and shipped home from the Homer Spit too!!

Ahhhhhhhhhh, life is good!

  • 5 of 5

"Is that it?" we all said. The tiny yellow box of a house didn't look like what we imagined, to tell you the truth. We were pulling our travel trailer (and had come from Tucson) and our friends had flown to Anchorage and taken the train to meet us in Denali. Both couples were celebrating 40th anniversaries. In Denali our friends tolerated sleeping in a tent for four nights and then riding in our cab-and-a-half truck on the drive to Anchorage. They also had to tolerate the one-day-late arrival at the cabin because the truck's power steering went out while in Anchorage. So the sight of the yellow box, was less than encouraging, I'm afraid.

It was tight, but we managed to back the 26-foot trailer down the driveway. This was an auspicious start to our anticipated relaxing week in Homer. As soon as we opened the door, however, we all breathed a sigh of relief. "OMG, it's wonderful!" we said. And it just got better. The house is well built; it even has an on-demand water heater (read that as enough water for four showers in succession and a load of laundry thrown in to boot with no lack of hot water), great front-loading washer and dryer, hot tub to die for, brand new barbecue, and everything else you need to make life easy. Just add wine.

Oh, and the mother moose and her two young blessed us with an appearance the day before and on the day we left.

While in Homer we toured the spit, of course, and we took the Discovery Cruise to Seldovia to see an incredible diversity of wildlife. The old boardwalk in Seldovia and the hike on the Otterbahn was fabulous, but on our way back to Homer on the boat we saw several humpback whales—one splashed its tail 16 times it was so happy—which, of course, made everyone aboard happy.

The other tour we took while in Homer was "A Seaside Adventure" Alaskan Ecotours with Rick and Dorla Harness. It was absolutely fantastic. If you like the idea of a perfectly safe kayak adventure where you learn about edible native plants, native artifacts, and see all the wildlife, we highly recommend it.

Thank you Ailsa and Tyson! We had an incredible five nights at your wonderful retreat.
