FLORENCE ITALY PERFECT SOLARE APARTMENT
Freshly remodeled, sunny apartment in the historic center provides walkability to the sites. The top floor position yields lots of light, making it a cheerful, pleasant apartment.
Apartment is on the 4th floor (5th Floor North American designation). No elevator, 66 steps.
Located near Piazza San Lorenzo it's an easy walk to the Duomo, the train station, the Church of San Lorenzo and Medici Chapels. The Mercato Centrale nearby offers vast varieties of Italian food specialities, cheeses, hand made pasta, artisan olive oils and fresh fruits and vegetables.
This is a very central location so you can be back 'home' within a matter of minutes from most of the historic center sites. The neighborhood has many convenient shops, there is a small supermarket within 2 blocks, a mom-and-pop grocer, a pizzeria, several restaurants, a pharmacy and a bakery within one block.
The building is small with only two apartments per floor. The Solare apartment has an enviable top-floor position, commanding all three windows across the top floor of the building.
The building dates back to the 15th century so the building's stairwell shows some wear, with old stone steps that have been well used for centuries. It's not an impressive entrance, there are no architectural details or adornments since this was, and still is, a working class neighborhood.
The apartment is on the 3rd floor Italian/4th floor North America designation. There are 66 steps and no elevator. The greeter will help you carry your luggage upstairs on arrival.
As you reach the top floor a skylight over the stairwell admits light. On each floor the residents have put personal, neighborly touches on their front door or a little flower pot next to their door, so it feels homey and welcoming compared to a large, bustling impersonal apartment building.
A special feature that delights are the nice views from the windows in the living room and bedroom. Gaze out at timeless views of the distant hills that surround Florence. It's a bright, pleasant apartment.
The living room, bedroom and hallway have parquet wood floors, easy on the feet. The living room is cozy, with wood bookshelves, flat screen TV, IPod dock, multistandard DVD player with a small selection of English language DVDs. A comfy sofa and two arm chairs provide comfortable seating for four people. There is a pull-down double size Murphy bed in the living room. During the day it folds up flat behind the sofa. Since it is double size it's best suited for one adult or two young children. The living room door can be closed off, if you use the pull-down bed, a feature we appreciate so that guests in the bedroom can get up and move about the apartment without waking up other members of their travel party sleeping in the living room.
The bedroom has a queen size bed with a comfortable, good quality mattress. A large, handsome armoire provides good clothing storage space. Here too you can enjoy views across rooftops towards the hills. Night stands with small reading lamps are on either side of the bed.
The bathroom has a fully enclosed shower with adjustable sprayer and also a fixed rain style shower head. The shower stall is standard Italian size, but a bit small by U.S. standards. Plenty of natural light too from the window as well as good lighting over the medicine cabinet mirror.
The newly remodeled kitchen is delightful. It has a window facing the light well with a flower box, a nice touch. Full size refrigerator with separate freezer compartment, all amenities and thoughtfully appointed with pots, pans, utensils. The dining table is positioned in front of the kitchen window and can seat four people. It's a pleasant spot for eating and the table also provides good work surface for catching up on emails since apartment has free WiFi.

Property manager/Owner purchased this apartment in 2009
We like the excellent location, proximity to the historic sites and restaurants. It is a sunny and cheerful apartment, very comfortable.
The Solare apartment was the most comfortable place we stayed during our three week visit to Italy. Our greeter was so friendly, accommodating and helpful that it made our first visit to Florence relaxing and stress free. We certainly got our daily exercise climbing the three flights of stairs! The location was convenient with the Galleria dell'Accademia just two blocks away. If you see nothing else in Florence, you must see Michelangelo's David. Also, visit the house where Michelangelo once lived which is now Museo di Casa Buonarroti. If you go left from the apartment headed towards Mercado Centrale, the neighborhood a little dicey. However, Trattoria ZaZa is nearby in that area which is a good place for lunch, light snack or dinner. If you go left from the apartment, the neighborhood is definitely more upscale, especially Via Cavour going south towards the Duomo. For the best view and food in Florence, located next to the Arno River, overlooking Ponte Vecchio go to The Golden View. They have a variety of restaurants: formal dining, seafood, bar with jazz and a casual space for light breakfast and snacks. Italy Perfect is terrific!
I loved my time at this apartment. Solare is very close to the Accademia, the Duomo, and the Mercato Centrale. The 66 stairs were not a problem. The building has lots of character and the apartment is well-furnished. My greeter/owner was especially nice and explained everything to me very well. I found the bed comfortable and the living areas relaxing. The kitchen is very nice and has most everything to cook with. I appreciated the basket of goodies! Since Florence is a walking city, I found the location ideal to walk anywhere--even out to the Pitti Palace and the Boboli Gardens. I always stay at Italy Perfect apartments where possible. They have been consistently wonderful for many trips!
Even considering the 66 steps up (with no elevator), this was a perfect apartment for us during our Florence visit. Chiara thought of everything and she even provided a green folder with all the info you would ever need about appliances, the apartment and outside info like doctors/medical facilities, etc. She even gives a gift basket with goodies you can actually USE! We enjoyed the exercise a few times a day going up and down those stairs - really - we were in great shape at the end of 4 days. The apartment is situated close / walking distance to the train station, the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and other sites. Perfect little comfortable apartment for a wonderful stay in Florence.
First impression is the stairs - all four stories of them. We were advised of this condition so it was no surprise but if you are frail or physically restricted you should be aware of this issue. Apartment is in a safe but not "showy" neighborhood and street below is narrow but not noisy. We liked the location - very close to Academia, Central Market, 10 minute walk to Duomo. Interior is clean, well-lit, well equipped and very adequate for two people. Bed is high quality and comfortable. Greeter, Chiara, was on time, friendly, spoke good English, and really seemed to care about our needs and stay.
On the down-side a major renovation is taking on the apartment directly abutting Solare. Many, many times we were awoken (early) to the sound of a roto-hammer blasting away on the common wall between the apartments. The first night a VERY loud alarm went off at 4 am and did not stop until around 7 am. It was impossible to sleep during this time. Chiara did everything possible to remedy the situation but it was part of the reconstruction crew's set up and no one could be found until the workers showed up for work.
On re-reading my comments there is a negative over-tone but other than the construction issues it is a good place to stay while in Florence, well priced, clean, sunny with a caring landlord. If we were assured that the construction project had been completed we would stay there again.
This is our second visit here. The owner is very welcoming and spends plenty of time showing you how the unit works. Very well done and extremely clean. There is approximately 66 steps but we had no difficulty with that. The location is perfect, 2 blocks to the Accademia, 2.5 blocks to the Mercato Centro and maybe 3.5 blocks to the Duomo and beyond. All easy walks. When we are in Florence we will always stay here.
The apartment Solare really was perfect for us. Yes, there are more than 60 steps up to the apartment (4th floor American) and the first time with luggage was not easy, but after that it was a breeze. We are a couple in our 60's, in good shape, so the stairs were not a problem. And once we were in the apartment, it was a haven and a home. There are many windows which we would throw open to catch the breezes and the light. The kitchen had a window with a table by which we sat for meals so it was cool and lovely despite the hot days (September).
The kitchen was well-equipped and had everything we needed. Just enough pots and pans, an American coffee maker and an espresso coffee maker (stovetop), a toaster, refrigerator, 4 burner cooktop and an oven. I think there was a microwave, but we didn't use it.
The living room had a very comfortable sofa, two chairs and a table. This room looked out onto the street. There was also a TV with satellite and some English channels. It was a very comfortable and homey room. There was also a Murphy bed which we did not use.
The bedroom had a large bed for two (a king, I think). There were very nice sheets, plenty of pillows and plenty of blankets if we had needed them. The room looked out onto the street, but the windows were double-glazed so it was very quiet at night. There was a large armoir which fit all of our clothes nicely (2 people). The bathroom was modern and had everything we needed. No tub, but the shower was excellent. Water pressure was good.
Apartment Solare could not have been nicer. There was also a washing machine and a drying rack. There was air conditioning in the bedroom and the living room which we needed only at night. There is also heat available in the colder months. The owner explained how everything worked. She also stocked the apartment with basic needs which really made our stay more pleasant.
The street that the apartment is on was a pedestrian street most of the time and had a few restaurants. There were three grocery stores within 8 minutes' walk. We loved the location and felt very safe.
I would absolutely recommend Italy Perfect. They did a wonderful job prior to our trip keeping us informed. They send lots of really helpful information and they were terrific about communicating. We didn't have any problems but I felt if we had that they and our host would have gone out of their way to solve them.
Our stay could not have been better. The apartment was very comfortable with all the amenities and located in a quiet area close to all the best sights. The owner was welcoming and gracious. We only wish we could have stayed longer. I highly recommend this apartment and the Italy Perfect website.
