La Goulette is large historic house with an adjoining cottage set on a hill overlooking the river valley and the medieval village of Plazac. The main house is built of mellow golden stone and has a tower and a very spacious living area. The Cottage is built of the same stone and in typical medieval perigordine style. The two buildings are separated by a stone arch which forms a large courtyard with a lawned area leading onto a huge terrace with panoramic views. There are further terraces and a large ice blue private swimming pool to the side of the Main House and the cottage has its owned walled garden and deck area. The property sits in 5 hectares of land and woods, fields, an orchard and a pond. There are many quiet areas to sit and contemplate the view or to read a book in the shade of an acacia tree. For those who love nature, and want a private and quiet retreat from the world, La Goulette is the perfect place. Its also perfect for large house parties, celebrations, weddings and anniversaries. Inside the main house there is a mixture of rustic charm and designer elegance. It has a Fired Earth kitchen, French antique beds, Toile de Jouay wallpaper in the bedrooms, and a large Perigourdine stone fireplace. There are wooden floors throughout except for in the tiled kitchens. There is also a large utility room. In the main house, there is a ground floor bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, a kingsize bed and a cot. Upstairs there are three more double bedrooms, one of which has also got a cot and there is a large family bathroom with separate shower unit. There are also wide screen TV's, DVD players, stereo, Ipod dock, and Wi-Fi. In the cottage there are two double bedrooms (one with cot) and a shower room. Downstairs there is a kitchen / dining area / and sitting room. If you can tear yourself away from this perfect setting, all “ Les Grands Sites du Perigord” are on your doorstep – La Roque Christophe (Troglodite village in the rock above the river Vezere), Lascaux ( the famous Palaeolithic cave paintings), Le Font de Gaume at Les Eyzies (more cave paintings) La Grotte at Rouffignac and more. Also interesting to explore is the medieval church at Plazac and its cobbled backstreets; the beautiful village of St. Leon sur Vezere; Les Eyzies and the famous medieval town of Sarlat - full of its designer shops and medieval history. There are also many beautiful Chateaux within a short drive, and the beautiful local town of Montignac for the supermarket, banks and riverside restaurants. And for the gourmet food lovers, we have Michelin star restaurants as well as very good traditional Perigourdine restaurants all nearby. This a truly fairy tale, unforgettable experience with towers, chateaux, medieval villages, lakes and the most beautiful rolling hills, river valleys and woods all around you. You will fall in love with La Goulette as we did! Bonne Vacances!

Julia Pikal -owner purchased this chateau / country house in 2013
Both David and I love France, as did my parents. Their dream was to buy a house in France. So when they both sadly died, I decided to make their dream come true and mine too of course! We spent 5 months looking for the house of our dreams. We had nearly given up when on a final trip to the lovely Perigord Noir, we stumbled across la Goulette, It was love at first sight! I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of the location and the view from the huge terrace, that I burst into tears at the thought of not being able to own this house! We had a big birthday celebration on the terrace last July and all our guests also fell in love with La Goulette and the view from the terrace! Being a nature lover, it is wonderful to have red squirrels and deer in our woodland, a variety of frogs and lizards and so many beautiful butterflies.
Anyone who has visited La Goulette always gets excited as they drive up the hill and first see the little estate. Then as they approach the house and cottage joined together by a wisteria covered arch, they are already enchanted. There is a lovely atmosphere at La Goulette and a feeling of space. The brand new swimming pool is a beautiful ice blue colour and there is lots of space with the large gardens, woodland and pond for children to have fun too. Not far away is Etaing du Tamnies for those who like a beach and beach bar. You can walk down to Plazac to buy fresh bread at the Boulangerie, there is a bio-store (mini supermarket) 2 restaurants and bars as well as more shops in nearby Rouffignac, Les Moustiers, St Leon sur Vezere and Montignac.
Just what the doctor ordered. Mixed age groups eight days old to 85. Something for all and great area. Good back up when required. Great for walking and cycling and within reasonable reach of other holiday pursuits (canooing, go-ape equivalent, food, art and music). Ambience so relaxed that was good just to potter round pool, cook and read. Would book again or even buy if could.
Our large family group thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Goulette! It is a lovely home, well-situated in the countryside just outside of the small village of Plazac, but so close to many wonderful sites and restaurants. The house itself is in a completely quiet location with no noise except morning birdcalls. The rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable, and the linens and towels were perfect. The bathrooms were updated and the kitchen was well-equipped for the dinners we cooked at home. We loved the evenings we decided to grill at home and eat our dinner outside on the lovely terrace, at the large table - because the view is so beautiful! The terrace table is equipped with two large umbrellas, so we were always comfortable even on hot days. The pool is large and perfect (and the saltwater was "not salty" according to my children, so don't let that put you off), and we spent several relaxing afternoons there. The indoor spaces were lovely and comfortable. It is important to know that the three bedrooms upstairs in the main house are accessed by a metal spiral staircase, which was fine for our group. The cottage bedrooms are accessed via a regular wooden staircase and are wonderfully romantic and pretty, and the master bedroom in the main house is on the ground floor and has a large comfortable bed and en suite bathroom. We did not use the second kitchen in the cottage, but it is a full-size kitchen with modern appliances. The small store/bakery in Plazac is a lovely 20-minute walk (or 5-minute drive) away and has bread, croissants and other baked goods in the morning, and a few other staples (like coffee and cream!). There were quite a few good restaurants and lovely villages within a 10-20 minute drive; our favorites were Le Petit Leon and La Poste in St. Leon, and Le Moulin de Mitou in Auriac. We loved visiting the Font-de-Gaume prehistoric cave paintings (limited number of visitors, reserve well ahead of time or get there VERY early in high season), Coumbarelles cave paintings (also limited visitation), and the Le Roque Christophe cave dwellings, all very close by. The owner Julia was very helpful responding to our questions prior to our visit, and the caretaker Cristina was prompt and helpful when we needed her assistance during our visit. We highly recommend La Goulette and hope to return someday!
A fine, well maintained and spacious house. Close to local amenities yet secluded and private. Liked the large salt water swimming pool and the space to always find a quiet spot.
Would recommend to family and friends without reservation. A memorable holiday.
We have just spent a very happy week at La Goulette celebrating our Golden Wedding with our extended family of six adults and five grandchildren.
We found the accomodation to be superb with all our needs catered for and with a wonderful location at which to stay.
Our grandchildren had a marvellous time in the swimming pool and exploring the grounds.
La Goulette is very suitably located for the many and varied interests of the Region.
We would have no hesitation in returning ourselves or recommending to others.
My husband and I and our 6 guests enjoyed a superb week in this beautiful farmhouse, with its fine Perigourdine tower, typical of the region. The buildings are charming and have been renovated with a lovingly sympathetic eye, ensuring all modern comfort whilst retaining the appeal of this historic house and cottage. We downed cases (after a tiring journey) and headed straight to the terrace to de-stress with a glass (or two) of fine wine and watched the light slowly turn into that rich gold of the southern evening. The rooms are beautifully appointed, the linens & towels of excellent quality (and we really noticed this after the poor quality of those in the chateau we had come from). All glassware & crockery, kitchen equipment etc was excellent and in generous quantities. The surrounding area is rich in history and culture - we explored beautiful gardens (e.g. Manoir d'Eyrignac), mediaeval towns (e.g. Sarlat), troglodyte villages (La Roque St.Christophe), prehistoric drawings, deep in caves(Rouffingnac), markets, wineries, chateaux - all within easy driving distance. We dined at the recommended local restaurants and enjoyed meals from just plain regional fare to the more sophisticated (all detailed in the information notes prepared by Julia and David). I could not restrain my guests from flexing their gardening muscles in the exquisite garden - and of course, when not exploring the delights of the Val de la Vezere, we lounged by the crystal waters of the beautifully maintained and situated pool. Thank you to our hosts - we will return!
My wife and I along with 4 other couples stayed at the beautiful "La Goulette" in the 2nd week of October. W arrived at the property just after 6.00 on the Saturday after a long journey through France (and specifically Paris!!) and were absolutely smitten with the property. As you drive up the long track it appears in the distance exactly as it looks in the pictures and to be fair, unlike some other websites what you see is what you get it is absolutely lovely. We spent virtually every evening sitting out on the terrace with the BBQ going and candles lighting up the area and even in October it was really mild. We ate out a number of times and most of the restaurants in the area serve lovely food and wine although most of them didn't seem to speak much English the use of hand signals, much pointing and my schoolboy French got the job done. The bedrooms are nice and a good size and all the crockery/pots/ pans etc. are a very high standard. All in all, I could not recommend the property highly enough, it is amazing and it was areal wrench to have to leave at the end of the week.
La Goulette is very near all the historic sites - La Grotte at Rouffignac is 4 kms in one direction and La Roque Christopher 4 kms in the other direction. Its also about 4 kms from La Thot, 10 kms from Lascaux (ancient cave paintings) and 45 minutes away from Sarlat and 15 minutes away from Le Eyzies.
