Why Julia Pikal -owner chose Perigord Noir

Both David and I love France, as did my parents. Their dream was to buy a house in France. So when they both sadly died, I decided to make their dream come true and mine too of course! We spent 5 months looking for the house of our dreams. We had nearly given up when on a final trip to the lovely Perigord Noir, we stumbled across la Goulette, It was love at first sight! I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of the location and the view from the huge terrace, that I burst into tears at the thought of not being able to own this house! We had a big birthday celebration on the terrace last July and all our guests also fell in love with La Goulette and the view from the terrace! Being a nature lover, it is wonderful to have red squirrels and deer in our woodland, a variety of frogs and lizards and so many beautiful butterflies.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Anyone who has visited La Goulette always gets excited as they drive up the hill and first see the little estate. Then as they approach the house and cottage joined together by a wisteria covered arch, they are already enchanted. There is a lovely atmosphere at La Goulette and a feeling of space. The brand new swimming pool is a beautiful ice blue colour and there is lots of space with the large gardens, woodland and pond for children to have fun too. Not far away is Etaing du Tamnies for those who like a beach and beach bar. You can walk down to Plazac to buy fresh bread at the Boulangerie, there is a bio-store (mini supermarket) 2 restaurants and bars as well as more shops in nearby Rouffignac, Les Moustiers, St Leon sur Vezere and Montignac.

Amazing French Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Stunning & welcoming house in a breathtaking location! The huge terrace with a number of outdoor eating areas overlooking the idyllic countryside is one of the many highlights, alongside the massive swimming pool & stylish decor throughout. There is plenty of space for large groups and the nearby towns Plazac and Rouffignac are typically french with some amazing restaurants. We all felt incredibly relaxed in and amongst the gorgeous nature. Hosts were very helpful and accommodating - highly recommended to all.

Really gorgeous house both inside and outside in fabulous location. We highly recommend it.

There were six of us staying and the experience has been so enjoyable that we've agreed to return next year. The main house is a large, beautiful space, gorgeously furnished with antiques. (We didn't stay in the cottage.) The pool is a good size for swimming and beyond it is the pool house where two of us slept. The owners have taken huge care with the plants that surround the house and the result is stunning. Outside there are three different sitting areas. On the wide terrace is a long table and it's delightful to eat there in the evening and look out onto the view beyond. The house is set in lovely countryside and you're not aware of any houses nearby. But a short walk takes you into the village of Plazac, with its bar restaurant where you can get a good cheap meal. Behind the main street is a lovely old church, little square and cemetery, and the streets surrounding it take you back in time. The owners and their cleaner Christine were really helpful. A fabulous place for a holiday in the Dordogne.

La Goulette is very near all the historic sites - La Grotte de Rouffignac is 4 kms in one direction and La Roque Christopher 4 kms in the other direction. Its also about 4 kms from La Thot, 10 kms from Lascaux (ancient cave paintings) and 45 minutes away from Sarlat and 15 minutes away from Le Eyzies. Its near the beautiful river valley of the Vezere (La Valleé 'Homme) and surrounded by exquisite Chateaux, pretty villages such as St Leon sur Vezere, Fanlac, Beynac (where the film Chocolat was filmed) and many more lovely pretty towns and villages as well as the famous town of Sarlat de Caneda. Everyone who has stayed at La Goulette has talked about one fun they have had Kayaking on the River Vezere, the lovely riverside and village restaurants they have visited and generally how stunningly beautiful this area is.
