We are retired but have lived in Tucson since 1973. I moved here from NYC where I worked for Forbes Magazine. I graduated from UA and had my own business for 28 years. We chose Tucson because of the mountains, tranquility and lifestyle and of course the desert. We started coming here to visit friends and the charm of Tucson just grew on us. Life has taken some of our children and grandchildren to other places but we still love living in the desert.
Richard purchased this House in 1977
Why Richard chose Rancho Feliz
It is on a cul de sac and free from traffic. We also loved the view of the mountains and the peacefulness of being on an acre of desert.
What makes this House unique
Quiet cul de sac, true desert experience, close to everything, mountain views, native landscaping, amenities.

This artful, and art-filled, home was clean, comfortable and spacious - everything the owners say about this property is accurate. Our gracious host Richard met us at the door and shared enough information about how things worked to be helpful, but not so much as to overwhelm weary travelers.
The kitchen was stocked more liked a lived-in home than a rental property. While we didn’t cook, we could have easily prepared, say, hamburgers without having to buy ketchup or roasted potatoes without having to buy vinegar.
We also found very helpful a binder our hosts had prepared containing menus from various local restaurants, names of nearby grocery stores and shops, and locations of several medical facilities.
The outside of the home, with its jagged mountain over which to watch the sun rise out front and its almost-acre of desert over which to watch the sun set out back, was as inviting as the inside so we enjoyed the former with morning coffee and the latter with evening wine.
Overall, our hosts’ thoroughness and thoughtfulness made our stay delightful - we will certainly return if we have an opportunity.
Beautiful, quiet retreat- Best of Tucson
This is our second trip to Tucson, staying at Rancho Feliz. We absolutely love it there.
The views are spectacular, and the wildlife sightings a joy. Some of the best aspects of rural Tucson, while still being close to great local shopping centers.
The home is clean and cozy, with a great taste of local culture infused in the decor. Great outdoor areas to relax. What a retreat!
A Desert Oasis!
What a wonderful way to visit the Tucson/Oro Valley area. A peaceful quiet location close to everything with a mini desert right in the backyard. Richard provides a lovely home to enjoy with everything you could possibly need for a great visit. I can't recommend Rancho Feliz highly enough!
We really liked staying here, the privacy and the location were excellent. Richard was a great host. We hope to stay here again.
Thank you Dale and Judy and thanks for booking another six weeks in 2020, it is the best compliment of all. You were great guests and we will see you next year.
Best regards, Richard
Best property we've rented
We're not frequent renters, but this is easily the best place that we have rented via any of these services. I think this is mainly due to the hands-on owners who are there to make sure everything is tidy, supplied, and in working order. Plus they were there to greet us when we were arrived and to show us around the place briefly before leaving us on our own.
The house itself is very nice and well situated in a quiet neighborhood, while still being a short distance from all the shops and services of Oro Valley. The landscaping is professional looking and we enjoyed a couple of strolls along the outer pathway through the acre of desert land that is part of the property. Wildlife abounds as we saw and heard numerous birds that were new to us and heard coyotes howling a couple times at dusk and dawn.
On the inside, we found it to be very comfortable with a nice place for watching TV and good lighting throughout for reading. There was nothing that we thought we wanted that could not be found, such as four different ways to make a cup of coffee, a gas grille that we made use of, and a very nice little cooler that we ended up taking with us almost every day. We didn't make too much use of the extensive outside furniture, but only because we were busy with various activities every day.
In short, this was a perfect place for our preferred style of traveling and we would find it hard to stay anywhere else on our next visit to the area!
Thank you so much for taking the time to write that wonderful review. We are honored to read words like these. We are pleased that this home was the perfect base for your many excursions.
We are relatively new at this and your review is a great encouragement to us.
We realize that your evaluation was written to other travelers but we appreciate your words as well, so thank you and we hope to see you again.

Great place to stay in Tucson
We had a great time at Richard’s house. The house is well taken care of, lots of space and everything you could need in the kitchen. Our favorite place was the desert garden behind the house. It was also close to Whole Foods, restaurants and hiking spots. Whenever we had a question Richard responded immediately. If we return to Tucson we would definitely rent this home again.
Thank you Sarah and Karl. I appreciate your kind review and we do hope to see you again. The back patio is my favorite place as well. Thank you for mentioning that the property is conveniently located near everything but private at the same time. This is a great area in Tucson.
This property is near everything, from shopping to restaurants to services and one of my favorite places in Tucson..Tohono Chul Park which is a little more than 1 mile from our property.
