NOW TAKING RESERVATIONS FOR SUMMER 2017 -

Your family has been to Ocean City, Rehobeth, the Outer Banks or Virginia Beach -- but you found the beaches crowded, the traffic horrible and the restaurants packed. So you are looking for something different this year for your vacation. Something more relaxing, more private, less frantic. You have found what you were looking for. A vacation on the 30-mile wide Chesapeake Bay.

Enjoy your OWN PRIVATE 200-foot long soft sand beach -- perfect for swimming. Enjoy beautiful sunrises. Explore the area on two double sea kayaks. Relax on chaise lounges on the waterfront deck. Dine outside on the large flagstone patio. Play badminton, bocce, frisbee, or volleyball on the wide and shaded lawn overlooking the Bay. Cycle the country farm roads on 3 adult and 3 child bicycles. Marvel at dolphins, osprey, bald eagles, heron and pelicans.

The 4300 square foot house features a wide open floor plan, new appliances, baths and furnishings, and stunning and endless Bay views from every room. Amenities include: double hot/cold outdoor shower, foosball and ping pong tables, 55', 42' and 47'-inch flat panel HDTVs, high speed wireless internet and free long distance telephone. Charming carriage house apartment (always included in the rental) features queen bed, twin sleep sofa, full luxury bath and kitchen, central a/c, and private waterview deck..

Main Living Area Accommodations: The great room includes a huge wood-burning fireplace with unlimited firewood provided, comfortable leather chairs, a large sectional sofa seating 6, and a 55-inch LED TV with DVD/VCR. The great room is open to the both the kitchen and the dining room. Connected to the main living area is a fully screened sun porch overlooking the Bay as well as a second huge (34' x 16') vaulted sun room overlooking the Bay with a sectional sofa, 47-inch flat screen LCD satellite TV with DVD/VCR, foosball and ping pong tables, overhead skylights, ceiling fans, books, magazines, videos, and games.

Bird Watching : Bring your binoculars and camera! The Chesapeake Bay is well-known as a bird lovers paradise. From the beach house you can watch several local osprey, great blue heron, bald eagles and pelicans diving and catching fish as well as pods of dolphin passing by. Ospreys have established a nest within 100 feet of the property and a heron comes almost every morning to look for fish along the shoreline. In the winter months you can listen to the roar of a thousand Canadian geese arriving together to spend the night near shore. Cardinals, blue birds and other songbirds also abound among the bayberry trees, magnolias, huge azaleas, crepe myrtles, dogwoods, and towering lob lolly pines on the home's 1.5 acres of property. Patios and porches overflow with brilliant geraniums and hibiscus in summer months.

We can help you to arrange additional bike, kayak, windsurfer and paddleboard rentals, charter fishing/sailing/boating, sailing lessons, in-home catering, local chefs, marina services, winery tours, massage therapy, horseback riding, cycling tours, rowing (sculling) lessons, golf itineraries.

Why Tom Lang chose Chesapeake Bay - Northern Neck

We found an older beachhouse on a beautiful bayfront piece of property in a rural location only a couple of hours from our primary residence. Some imagination and renovations brought the house back to life as a great gathering spot for family and friends.

What makes this house unique

A typical summer week at the beach house is spent boating, fishing, sailing, roasting marshmallows at the fire pit, swimming, kayaking, windsurfing, playing volleyball and bocce, birdwatching, crabbing --all without leaving the property! Throw in some golf, visits to nearby wineries, museums, and farmers markets, and you have a perfect recipe for a great vacation!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a fabulous time playing foosball, in fact we held a foosball championship! Our dog, Josie could not stay away from the beach. Our favorite room was the game room but our favorite thing was watching the sun rise and set over the bBay. We got great pictures of it. We love the house and hope to come again soon!

Fabulous winter getaway

  • 5 of 5

I was in awe at how the pictures were exactly like the property. 9 women and I had planned a weekend getaway for my 40th birthday. The house was emmaulate and the setting breathtaking. I enjoyed sun rises, sea kayaking (yes in the winter), fires and just sitting on the wonderful deck enjoying the amazing views. The beachfront is such a nice feature...easy entrance to the water, and I know wonderful for small children. This property is a away from it all.....very secluded and away from all the chaos some vacation spots offer. Enjoy local small towns and fare. The house was spacious...we never felt crowded and the kitchen....was large. I can imagine that is would be a wonderful summer vacation as well and plan to take my family this summer. Enjoy this wonderful home and the rest and relaxation a vacation can truely be!!!!

Beautiful layout

  • 3 of 5

The property layout was beautiful. The house was spacious. The lake view was gorgeous. The house could use an update to create a more modern feel. The only suggestions I would make would be for the house keepers to do a better job cleaning. The bathroom up stairs had hair and bugs in the tub and hair on the floor. There was a wasp nest on the master bedroom window. The refrigerator in the garage needed to be cleaned out. It smelled like fish. The cottage house was nice and cozy but the lawn chairs on the deck were dirty. The owner of the house was very informative and helpful. Only other complaint was the distance. The local stores and seafood fest was 30 min away. Other than those things we had a great stay. Thanks

Owner's Response: We appreciate the glowing comments about the house, the property and the view. I am sorry that you found 1 of our 5 bathrooms less than spotless. I have passed your comments along to our housekeeper and asked our handyman to remove the wasp nest under the eaves. We are somewhat remotely located as the nearest "large" town is about 25 minutes drive but many of our guests appreciate the remoteness as it means no tourists or summer crowds.

Beautiful Home, great for family gatherings

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this gorgeous home. The owners have truly thought of every last detail to accommodate guests who stay here. This is a great place for kids and the beach/water and yard toys are abundant including kayaks, bikes, sand toys, floats, and life jackets are provided for you. The swing set outside is also great for evening play.

The home is quite spacious and we were able to gather at the large dining table and outside patio table for our family meals. The game room is something with both a ping pong and foosball table. In addition tons of books and games are also provided.

We really enjoyed our stay and will surely be returning as well as recommending this home to our friends. A wonderful get-away by the bay!

Thank you again Tom and Laura for your hospitality.

Stunning location, incomparable views

  • 4 of 5

This is a positive review. But note the negatives. I would advise addressing concerns with the owner BEFORE booking. There is no local property manager so problems cannot apparently be fixed once youve arrived.

Gorgeous property. The private beach really is private and the location quiet and serene. In June, the moonrise over the water in the evenings was amazing. No motorboats, jet skis or other noises. Just the occasional sailboat or -- way off in the distance -- faint views of ships. For some reason, absolutely no bugs or mosquitos, even though they were a problem in the surrounding areas.

The deck has 4 very nice lounge chairs with thick cushions. There are also bikes and kayaks. The bay was calm, and shallow for a long way out while we were there. Perfect for swimming kids. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Bedrooms have variety of bed configurations. A child friendly property.

There is very very little anywhere nearby. We didn't mind that at all. But be aware it is a very quiet place.

There were some maintenance problems. One of the back doors was both not lockable, and would sometimes stick and not open. Something seems to be wrong with the latching mechanism. So the property couldn't be secured at night and also occasionally trapped people in the porch. I told the owner when we first arrived so maybe it's been fixed now. But nobody came to fix it during our stay so you should check on that. There was also no working landline phone (& no cell coverage, which the owner makes clear ). There is phone service to the house but the rechargeable phones there were very old and didn't hold charge so no outgoing calls possible. Again, we notified the owner, who offered to reimburse us if we went to the hardware store and bought a phone, but we didn't want to run errands or do home repair on our vacation. I'm hoping the owner has now replaced the phone.

The owner was very friendly and answered emails immediately. But be aware there is no local property manager so problems will not be fixed during your stay. That was fine (though inconvenient) for us. But the fact that there would be no way to even call 911 would be a problem for most people. So you may want to make sure the phone situation has been resolved.

The property was tidy but not exactly clean. The cleaning service used clearly didn't clean behind closed curtains or under furniture. Lots of dead bugs and dust and crumbs. I notified the owner, so maybe that will be addressed.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your positive review of the property and the feedback on the phone and screened porch door issues. We replaced the landline phone handsets right after your stay and fixed the outer porch door lock mechanism. The outer porch door does not lead into the house itself -- there is a second regular lockable door to enter the house from the porch -- so there was no security issue. We also asked our housekeeper to re-double her efforts to ensure she continues to get rave reviews for her cleaning. We do tell all guests in advance that cell phone coverage is unreliable at the house. Many guests opt to bring a cell phone booster (sold by AT&T, Verizon, etc. and operating off our excellent cable/internet service) to obtain consistent cell phone coverage at the house during their vacation. As owners we manage/maintain the house ourselves and along with our housekeeper we are always available to address issues during a guest's stay... but we also understand that many guests desire privacy on vacation and that minor issues can be addressed after their departure.

A perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of five from Richmond, VA (kids ages 12, 6 and 4), and we were looking for a quick relaxing getaway right after the school year ended. The photos of this house are nice, but the house and all of its features and accompaniments far exceeded our expectations. And the view is amazing! Thanks to owners who have thought of everything a family could need, we had one of the most relaxing vacations ever. Thank you, Tom!

One thing to note... We had little to no cell phone service. Turned out to be a blessing to be a little dis connected, but it was startling at first. Fortunately, the wifi worked very well. Just remember to download the codes and info you need before you get there.

We hope others enjoy their time here as much as we did. We look forward to returning.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay! Cell phone coverage is indeed spotty but we do provide free nationwide long distance and high speed wireless internet so that you can remain connected throughout your vacation (if desired).

Master's Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Perfection is the best way to start this review. Our stay was with all of my college roommates to celebrate the Master's Golf Tournament. We are 10 years separated from graduating from college and now have little children of our own, so we were looking for a place to get together and enjoy each others company while also providing an enjoyable time for the wives and children. We could not have selected a better spot. The house accommodated all the needs for small children and provided a beautiful outside view that the adults could enjoy. The huge open kitchen / main room allowed for everyone to be involved at all times. We will likely be returning because of the comfort and enjoyability of this place.
