About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + sleeping Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5-8)

PRIVACY! This home is located on almost 6 acres of land. It has all the privacy, peace and wild beauty that you expect to experience on an Alaskan vacation. The property is conveniently located in the city limits of Homer and is only 3 to 4 miles from the city center. The house is located on a bluff that overlooks emerald lakes and the beaches of Kachemak Bay just below.

You can hear the murmur of the ocean from the porch and watch eagles soaring on the updrafts overhead. Before you stretches the waters of Kachemak Bay and Cook Inlet, the mountains of the Kenai range and the volcanoes of the Alaska Range.

This well kept house has a wall of windows to take full advantage of the view and thoughtfully placed window treatments to shut out the midnight sun for those not used to long daylight hours at bedtime. There is an access ramp to the house and the entire lower floor is handicapped accessible. Spend the afternoon on the large deck and grill your fish for a fresh Alaskan dinner. This house is a comfortable residence stocked with all of the conveniences of home.

About Holly Van Pelt

We are both long time Alaskans who discovered all the amazing things about Homer and have made it our home. We love to fish, hike, bird-watch and kayak. Living in Homer has made these activities available right out our door. We share our local knowledge with our visitors and especially love to share our Alaska.

Holly Van Pelt purchased this house in 2003

Why Holly Van Pelt chose Kenai Peninsula

Some of the best things about this property is the privacy and the view. The most frequent comment I get from our guests is how greatly their expectations of the cottage were exceeded when they walk through the door.

What makes this house unique

My favorite feature of the house is watching the antics of the eagles and the acrobatic ravens playing stick-drop and aero-bomber with each other on breezy days. The long bayside porch is a perfect place to relax with a morning cup of coffee or s peaceful afternoon after a day's activities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for letting us stay for the weekend. We loved it. We don't want to leave. It is so quiet and the morning is beautiful and even more beautiful is sunset. It was sooo pretty. We just sat and watched it till it turned night.

Incredible view, wonderful host!

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is well supplied and comfortable - not luxurious but very charming, and everything else falls away as you gaze out the huge windows to the fabulous view! Everything you need for a comfortable stay is supplied, and Holly is very responsive and knowledgeable about the area. The cottage is very private and quiet, and you can watch the fishing boats headed to Cook Inlet or the bald eagles soaring overhead. It was a little too chilly for us to enjoy the deck, but in warmer weather we would have spent lots of time there.

Beautiful, quite location.

  • 5 of 5

The scenery was unbelievably beautiful. Location quiet and peaceful. Accommodations clean and comfortable. Had everything we needed. We drove in to Homer to the Spit, walked along boardwalk, bought salmon at the fish market for dinner. We were there just after Labor Day and many shops and restaurants were closed for the season. I would recommend this home to others and plan a return as well. Holly was quick to respond to my questions. Thank you for providing a wonderful accommodation.

We all enjoyed our stay and loved Homer

Everything was great. One thing was missing and Holly refunded the expense. It kind of was our fault as we should have phoned her at the time. It was very clean and fitted our needs

Great view from a nice cottage

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with our recent stay in the Alaskan Cottage! It is a very nice cottage with an awesome view of the mountains and the bay! It rained while we were there so we didn't get to enjoy the nice deck, but we were very glad we chose this rental. It is ideally located for great views, privacy and easy access to Homer. We enjoyed watching all the fishing charters racing out to their favorite spots in the morning. We ate at Captain Pattie's on The Spit and Fat Olive's in Homer and would recommend both of them. We fished with Silver Fox Charters and had a great experience catching our limit of Halibut. We had a beverage at the infamous Salty Dawg and enjoyed the cute shops on The Spit. We would definitely book in this cottage again and recommend it to others.
