After teaching for thirty-four years and maintaining cars, airplanes and properties for even longers, we have become 'snow birds'. Creating 'home' along the west coast has been a life long passion; and, we enjoy sharing our talents and creations with others.
Lorraine Heng purchased this cottage in 1979
We love the ambience, especially the fresh ocean air and natural beauty of Montery Bay, and the powerful surge of waves on the beach. There is a wealth of outdoor activities; and, access to the San Francisco peninsula is easy from the Santa Cruz area.
Where else in the world can we comfortably stroll so many beaches, walk the dog in the Light House Field or along the marsh, ride horsback through the nearby redwood forests,or go kyaking in Elk Horn Slough? One of our continuing favorites is to watch the otters, birds, and sea lions play in the estuary while enjoying a fine dinner at the Fish Factory in Moss Landing.
I really enjoyed staying at your vacation rental in santa cruz. Great
place and really nice family that was next door! Thanks for
putting in on VRBO!
Four of us journeyed from afar to meet in a cottage near the sea. We had a fabulous time at this surprisingly centrally located property. Our one week living on Pleasure Point allowed us to play in many places. We visted San Francisco to drive through, saw the Aqaurium at Monterey, picniced under the tall redwoods in San Lorenzo Valley, kayaked in Elkhorn Slough and shopped for books in Santa Cruz. The property was older but well maintained and up to date.
We loved our front yard barbeque as much as our dinner on the houseboat at the Monterey Wharf. The kitchen was new, clean, and had the basics. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom a little larger than expected and the neighbors all quiet. The owner was prompt in replies and and accurately represented the property. All and all this was an excellent choice for our not quite annual get-to-gather. Lolly, Lindley, Ferd and Beth
I stayed here for two nights and couldn't have been happier for the price. The cottage was small, but considering we had 5 people total, everything was very comfortable. We didn't have much time to visit the beach, as our weekend was packed with wedding festivities, but the property is less than two blocks from Pleasure Point, which is a gorgeous ocean overlook. There are beaches within walking distance to the north and the area has a distinct surfer community vibe.
I would recommend this property to a small family that wants to spend a weekend in one of California's most beautiful coastal regions. Besides being in a wonderful area itself, the cottage is a short drive from the Santa Cruz boardwalk to the North and Capitola to the South.

My wife and daughter had a great stay at Lorraine's cottage. She was quick to respond to anything we needed. The location was excellent. The beach was down the street as well as an excellent hole in the wall market/cafe. Great breakfast burritos! 15 min bike ride into capitola or a short drive. As well as a less than 5 min drive to shops and restraunts and coffee! Very centrally located. I had never stay in the pleasure point area but glad we did! As for the house. It was cozy but big enough for a few guests. Nothing fancy but the price and the location were great. The other cottages were full as well but we didn't have any problems. In all we we had a great time!
Even though it says it sleeps six I would not recommend it for more than 4 people. There are only enough beds for 4. They did provide fold out mats but not ideal for sleeping. There was a blu ray player but was unable to use it as there was no remote.
The cottage is, as other reviews mentioned, not the newest property. However it is well equipped, roomy enough and wonderfully close to the beach. We had a lovely reunion with the grandparents and the garden provided plenty of space for our two young children to play. We would definitely book it again.
Pleasure Point Cottage is two blocks from the ocean, two miles from the Santa Cruz Beach Board Walk, and less than twenty minutes from the UCSC campus, and the redwood forests of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
It is a short day trip to San Francisco, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, or the beautiful 'Seventeen Mile Drive' along the coast between Carmel and Monterey.
If you're not into surfing, kayaking in the Santa Cruz boat harbor or the estuaries of Moss Landing, seal, otter and bird watching, going for a bike ride, or deep sea fishing are other possibilities for adventure.
Santa Cruz County has 29 miles of beaches to explore: Cowell's Beach, Steamer Lane, (a favorite surfing spot), Twin Beach, and Castle Beach, are all near the Santa Cruz Wharf.
Driving south from Pleasure Point Cottage, you will find Manresa Beach, La Selva, Capitola Beach, Seacliff Beach (sunken cement ship), Seascape Beach, and Sunset Beach (romance ).
Driving North look for the Santa Cruz Harbor (great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner and evening entertainment); discover Light House Field State Beach ( good surfing and great place to walk dogs), Natural Bridges (observe Monarch butterflies), Wilder Ranch Beach (historic site), Davenport Beach (tiny town with a good bakery),and Four-mile Beach (known for beach parties), Scotts Creek Beach, (a favorite for beach combing ) Wadell Creek Beach, a (a good spot for wind-surfing) Bonny Dune Beach and Red-White-Blue (clothing is optional). Come and discover how many beaches you can find to leave your foot prints in the sand!
The county is also blessed with 14 state parks, including the popular Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, accessible by steam train from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. This is a trip through the towering redwoods and back. If you want more adventure: Hike, ride a zip line or bike through the beautiful redwood forests of the Santa Cruz mountains.
The opportunities for fun in Santa Cruz are endless!
If you still want more adventure, visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium or play a round of golf. Drive up the coast to San Francisco, and walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. You'll never forget it!
