Overview

About the property

2 bdr Santa Cruz Beach Cottage, off-street parking, fenced yard, dog ok.

Pleasure Point Cottage makes the perfect home base for a great adventure on Monterey Bay (half way between San Francisco and Carmel-by-the Sea). The area has 29 miles of sand and surf that make Santa Cruz the home of surfing, a sport that is known for connecting you to the sea in a way that nothing else can.. It’s a very short walking distance from the front door of our two bedroom cottage to one of the finest surfing spots on the West coast! The scenery is breath taking. The opportunities for fun are endless! And having your own home to come home to makes the whole experience unforgettable.

The kitchen for this two bedroom cottage is equipped with all of the basic appliances, including a gas stove, dishwasher and microwave, electric coffee pot, dishes and cookware.

The master bedroom has a queen size bed, fresh linens, and desk with access to Wi-Fi, a TV, open beam ceiling and walk-in closet.

The second bedroom has two extra-long, twin size beds that are comfortable for adults as well as children. Toys, high chair, and portable crib are available on request. Sleeping pads with extra bedding are available too, in case of need.

All of the utilities, cable TV, Wi-Fi, laundry, gardener, barbeque and picnic table are provided. We even have storage space for your bike and/or surf board. This attached cottage has off-street parking and its own private, fenced yard. Yes, your dog is welcome too. He/she will appreciate the fenced yard and walks throughout the dog friendly neighborhood.

The storage room and waste management and parking areas are shared with two other cottages.

Santa Cruz has 29 miles of sand and surf that make Santa Cruz the home of surfing, a sport that connects you to the sea in a way that nothing else can. Cowell's Beach, Steamer Lane, (a favorite surfing spot), Twin Beach, and Castle Beach, are near the Santa Cruz Wharf.

Driving south of Pleasure Point, you will find Manresa Beach, La Selva, Capitola Beach, Seacliff Beach (sunken cement ship), Seascape Beach, and Sunset Beach (romance).

Driving North of Pleasure Point, check out the Santa Cruz Harbor; discover Light House Field State Beach (good surfing and great place to walk dogs).

Natural Bridges State Beach, known for its tide-pooling and famous natural rock bridge, feels secluded but is easily accessible from the road. This state park is a Monarch Butterfly sanctuary for as many as 100,000 butterflies that are drawn to the mild ocean air and eucalyptus grove in the winter months.

Further north are: Wilder Ranch Beach (historic site), Davenport Beach (tiny town with a good bakery),and Four-mile Beach (known for beach parties), Scotts Creek Beach, (a favorite for beach combing ) Wadell Creek Beach, a (a good spot for wind-surfing) Bonny Dune Beach and Red-White-Blue (clothing is optional).

The county is also blessed with 14 state parks, including the popular Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, accessible by steam train from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. This is a trip through the redwoods and back, even if you don’t like to hike. Check the schedule before you go. If you want more adventure: Hike, ride a zip line or train through the beautiful redwood forests of the Santa Cruz mountains.

If you have a loved one that is college bound, be sure to check out the UCSC Campus.

There are plenty of places in Santa Cruz County to end the day with a glass of wine and a fresh plate of seafood. The pier at the Boardwalk is one favorite places to toast the sunset. The Shadow Brook Restaurant in nearby Capitola would be a wonderful place for a special dining experience. Fragrant gardens and rustic creek-side location add much to the ambience, not to mention a quaint cable car that takes you down to the restaurant and lounge to enjoy live guitar music and happy hour.

About Lorraine Heng

After teaching for thirty-four years and maintaining cars, airplanes and properties for even longers, we have become 'snow birds'. Creating 'home' along the west coast has been a life long passion; and, we enjoy sharing our talents and creations with others.

Lorraine Heng purchased this cottage in 1979

Why Lorraine Heng chose Santa Cruz

We love the ambience, especially the fresh ocean air and natural beauty of Montery Bay, and the powerful surge of waves on the beach. There is a wealth of outdoor activities; and, access to the San Francisco peninsula is easy from the Santa Cruz area.

What makes this cottage unique

Where else in the world can we comfortably stroll so many beaches, walk the dog in the Light House Field or along the marsh, ride horsback through the nearby redwood forests,or go kyaking in Elk Horn Slough? One of our continuing favorites is to watch the otters, birds, and sea lions play in the estuary while enjoying a fine dinner at the Fish Factory in Moss Landing.

A fabulous time in the cozy cottage by the sea.

  • 5 of 5

Four of us journeyed from afar to meet in a cottage near the sea. We had a fabulous time at this surprisingly centrally located property. Our one week living on Pleasure Point allowed us to play in many places. We visted San Francisco to drive through, saw the Aqaurium at Monterey, picniced under the tall redwoods in San Lorenzo Valley, kayaked in Elkhorn Slough and shopped for books in Santa Cruz. The property was older but well maintained and up to date.

We loved our front yard barbeque as much as our dinner on the houseboat at the Monterey Wharf. The kitchen was new, clean, and had the basics. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom a little larger than expected and the neighbors all quiet. The owner was prompt in replies and and accurately represented the property. All and all this was an excellent choice for our not quite annual get-to-gather. Lolly, Lindley, Ferd and Beth

Quiet, comfortable dog-friendly cottage

  • 4 of 5

This is a clean, comfy, pretty small, old-fashioned cottage a few blocks from the beach. The street is very quiet in a residential neighborhood. There is a small bedroom with two twin beds, and a larger bedroom with a double bed, plenty of closets, bath, small comfy living room and nice kitchen. Once we figured out how to do it, the heat worked well. Great internet, well located.

We loved being able to bring our dogs -- they could walk out in the fenced yard, we walked them on-leash walk in the hood, and we drove them about 10-15 minutes to the very very dog-friendly off-leash Brighton Beach. We were there for a short time and did not even end up going to the beach that was so close to us, but we saw many surfers who loved it.

We had booked it thinking we would bring our teens with us, and that might have overwhelmed this small cottage (because that's who they are). But they didn't come, and with us and our dogs, or with small children, or older teens or friends who will spend most of the time outdoors, great place to stay if you're good with close proximity.

Beautiful Little 2 Bedroom, Walk to Pleasure Point

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this cute little cottage. You can't beat the location - it's a very quick walk down to Pleasure Point. The interior and exterior are in great shape, with attractive landscaping, easy parking and nice wood floors. We also really liked the nice flat screen, reclining leather sofas and good internet service.

Compared to other places we've stayed in this area, the cottage was much cleaner and more attractive. We found it very nice to have an easy, large parking spot right next to the front door and a convenient hose out front for washing off wetsuits.

We will be back!

Cozy cottage, great location

  • 4 of 5

We recently stayed here for 2 nights with our 4 children and had a great time. The owner is very responsive and provides clear instructions. There were plenty of sheets and bedding to go around, and the toy shelf in the closet and high chair were a wonderful touch which suits our 1 year old toddler very well. We enjoyed the very short walk to the beach, the location can't be better!
