Northeast Portland Apartment Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Beautiful 1908 Craftsman home (Garden view unit) in the heart of one of the most sought after neighborhoods in Portland! You will never stay in a nicer garden view unit! This is urban living at it's finest. Beautiful high historic end homes, gorgeous tree lined boulevards, wonderful people, and extremely close to many wonderful restaurants and shopping. This is one of the best neighborhoods in Portland without a doubt. The wonderful and energetic neighborhoods of Alameda, Beaumont-Wilshire, Concordia, Laurelhurst and Grant Park all surround Historic Irvington, but she is the Grand Dame of them all!

A car is not absolutely necessary, walk to the MAX (transportation system - 10 minutes) and the bus line is around the corner. You are a 5-10 minute walk from literally 20 restaurants! 5 minutes walking to Lloyd Center and 8 minute walk to the Rose Quarter. Downtown is a 7 minute drive or 9 minutes on the MAX.

Your basement unit is almost 600 square feet and has been completely restored with the original hardware. The sofa folds down to sleep a total of 4. Why stay in a hotel when you can live like a local?

The vast majority of the vacation rentals in Portland operate illegally, but this house has the rare and therefore coveted 'Conditional Use' permit that the city requires in order to run a vacation rental for short term stays.

Our caretakers live onsite, tucked away in an apartment on the main level. Feel free to ask them for help at anytime.

This apartment is extremely well furnished, with everything you need to make your stay wonderful, giving you maximum comfort. Large windows ensure the unit is well lit, and a brand new hydroponic heating system ensures warmth on cold nights. Stainless steel appliances, travertine countertops, wireless internet, a 30' flat screen TV, DVD player and a Bose Stereo give you the luxuries that you have in your own home! Your own illuminated, private entrance on the side of the house guarantees you complete privacy.

A raised herb and vegetable garden on the south side of the house is available to you.

You will get our personal recommendations for shopping, dining and activities and complimentary coffee and tea.

This is our part time home, and we absolutely love it. We guarantee you will feel the same. Come and be part of our family as you sample all that Irvington Neighborhood and Portland have to offer!

About The Owner

My name is Mark Reinoso, and my wife's name is Abigail Stewart. I have a daughter, Lauren, from my first marriage, who is 15. Abby and I have a 6 year old son, Rocco and a 2.5 year old daughter Zara

We spend a lot of time in Portland, and we certainly want to welcome you to our home!

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2005

Why The Owner chose Portland

I have always loved the Pacific Northwest, though my daughter, family and my business are in Phoenix. Most of my maternal family is from this area, and many relatives still live near here.

My mother was born in Vancouver, WA and used to come down to the Lloyd Center to shop with her mother when she was very young. She has fond memories of this place. When she first saw this house and this neighborhood, she literally cried.

I have always had a great time here. I love the neighborhood. I love my neighbors and the general vibe that Portland has. I love the people, and even the weather(most of the time) I love the fact that you can go hiking or biking in the AM, and be back in time for lunch at a fabulous restaurant. I love that nothing looks the same, that everything is unique.

What makes this apartment unique

I guess I could go on and on, but I really like the urban lifestyle. You can walk anywhere from the Irvington Neighborhood. The gardens and yards are just unbelievable. There are tons of great restaurants and coffee shops everywhere you turn. Portland is such a great destination in every way, and I think Irvington neighborhood is the crown jewel of it all.

I have put tons of money and my heart and soul into this property, and I think and hope it shows. I hope you enjoy this house as much as I do.

Great location but had some issues

  • 3 of 5

Let's start out with the fact that you can't beat the location, the house is set in a beautiful neighborhood with old Portland craftsmans which I love. Andrea the caretaker was very accommodating and was quick to respond to text. The rental was also very cool as our visit was during a major heatwave. Big kudos considering Portland doesn't have a whole lot of AC.

Now the issues: "garden view" is a bit of a stretch. One side of the unit looks into the walkway between the house and the neighbor's fence and the living area looks out into a car park behind the house next door. I didn't see a garden and was slightly disappointed as the photos looked so amazing. Fortunately we were in town for a music festival and didn't spend a whole lot of time there so it wasn't really a loss. However, if you're looking for view, this isn't the rental for you.

Stains on the linens was off putting especially on the sheets. Towels were the worst but they seemed clean. Upon entering the unit we had to kill at least 3 big flies, gross! We returned the last evening to a stretch of fish in the basement, I guess the renters upstairs had fish for dinner? We never found out where the smell came from but it was not good.

There is a serious toilet paper shortage, two women need more than a roll and a half of single ply TP for a 4 day stay. This should be included and it wasn't convientient to our schedule to bug the caretaker so I ended up buying a pack and taking the rest home with me.

Also weird, two cleaning ladies showed up 5 minutes early (before checkout) and pretty much pushed us out while we were organizing ourselves. I didn't like that at all and found it unprofessional, even a hotel maid wouldn't make it uncomfortable so you feel rushed to leave while you're trying to make sure you have everything. Neither of us are from the area and we're trying to figure out how to get to our destination when we were nicely told to get out. Wasnt a great last impression.

Overall we were comfortable but if I had rented this for a romantic trip or special occasion I would be upset. I don't feel like the description was accurate or that the place was really that clean. Furnishings were nice though.

Owner's Response: Hi thanks for staying with us! We certainly appreciate your feedback. A couple of things to note: "garden view" is an industry term, it refers to the lowest floor with view of a shrubbery. The garden wraps all around the house, from the front, to the side and even the back. I don't see how you missed it. We do our best to give unstained sheets, sometimes we might miss a stain or two, that doesn't come out with with the wash. Please accept our apologies. As far as the fish smell, nobody in that house cooked fish that night. Maybe one of the neighbors did. We also occasionally have marijuana smell in the neighborhood too, that's something I can't control. Our caretaker recently had a death in the family, and she forgot to add more toilet paper. Its been a rough time for her. I'm very sorry for the issue. You could have texted the caretaker, and she would have gotten it immediately. Our checkout time is 11 am. We aren't a hotel..... so when it was 11:30 and you still hadn't checked out, our cleaners gave you a gentle reminder. They are on a schedule.. I am sorry that you found that offensive.

Lovely home in a terrific location

  • 4 of 5

Overall, it was a great rental. Lots of positives starting with Andrea, the caretaker. Second was terrific location, close to so many good restaurants and steps away from the #8 bus that took us to downtown Portland. The apartment itself was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Just a few negatives prevented it from being a 5 star rating. First, the website indicated that air conditioning was present. That was not entirely accurate; there was an air conditioning vent over the refrigerator which could be either open or closed - no control over the temperature. There were no other vents in the apartment. Fortunately, it was a basement apartment and stayed relatively cool; probably this is rarely an issue, but we were there during a particularly hot week (mid to upper 90's). I don't think it should list air conditioned unless the rental is totally air conditioned. Second, the bed was comfortable but the pillows were flat and hard and one was quite soiled. The kitchen was quite well equipped, with a large refrigerator and a full stove with an oven. Obviously there was the capability of storing and cooking large amounts of food. However, there was no dishwasher. Not a big problem, just surprising in such a well equipped kitchen.

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying with us! I am glad you had a good time. As far as your concerns... the AC vent can be controlled, all you have to do is open or close it accordingly. Also if needed, we have mobile AC units we can wheel into each unit on extremely hot days, you might have noticed one of the units right outside your door on the landing. The mechanics and layout of the 1908 house doesn't allow for another dedicated unit, and being a lower basement unit, it doesn't need one. Even on 100+ days, it stays very cool in there. The mobile AC units are there for extremely hot days. Our pillows should not be soiled, we try to keep a tight ship, but I will look into it. Thank you for your feedback!

Historical House in a Charming Neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful home that is 20 minutes from the PDX airport and 30 minutes form downtown Portland. I very much enjoyed the fully stocked kitchen and unit as a whole. Even though it was a basement unit, there was always enough natural light coming through the windows. I was able to use the backyard patio to read as the weather was beautiful. The neighborhood is stunning, with shops and coffee a few blocks away. I met Andrea, the caretaker of the property on my stay, and she was so very nice. Mark, who helped me book, was already great to work with as well.

The Garden Apartment provided a wonderful stay for the 4 of us for a long weekend in Portland.

  • 5 of 5

The location is in a beautiful old historic part of Portland. We were within walking distance to many restaurants and shops and access to the TriMet is on the same block. The apartment is nicely arranged, clean and provides all that you need from cooking to doing laundry. There's even a pantry with some basic provisions. It was unusually hot in Portland during our stay, but we were very lucky that there is central air conditioning that was turned on. The back patio is a wonderful place to retreat to for reading or a meal. The caretaker is very available, friendly and informative, if you need her. We look forward to staying here again when we return.

Good value, great neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

As advertised, this is a nice basement apartment in walkable Irvington. Maybe technically more of a driveway view than a garden view, but it gets plenty of light, and the patio in back is very nice.

We started every day with a pleasant 10 minute walk to Saint Simon for coffee. Loved the churros at 180 and tapas next door at Chesa, also on Broadway.

Laundry, kitchen, and a big tv to watch the Olympics at the end of the day. Wifi was flaky, but host was trying to get it sorted out. Parking was always available right in front of the house.

Would stay again.
