The house is within walking distance to Spanish language schools, including UNITER the famous Center for Bilingual and Multicultural Studies on San Jeronimo and Spanish Language Institute SLI across the street from the casita. Check out their websites for more information.
This is the perfect house for a couple or a single, especially for an extended stay for the person who wants to study Spanish or escape the cold winter months or the heat of summer. This house is most comfortable for two adults or a single! Ask owner about long term rental rates.
There are many cultural events, art exhibits and concerts and theatrical presentations. The house makes a convenient home base for sightseeing in Mexico City, Puebla, Taxco, and the states of Guerrero and Mexico.
Acapulco is only three hours away by car or bus. Buses run from the Mexico City Airport to Cuernavaca about every half hour and cost about $18.00. You can also use Toluca Airport.
I first visited Cuernavaca in 1985 to attend the Spanish language school El Centro Bilingue on San Jeronimo, now UNINTER. I loved it there, the weather, people, culture, everything. I bought a vacant lot there in 1986 and built the casita in 1996, the one bedroom bungalow I rent regularly. Cuernavaca truly is the city of eternal spring. There is a new larger home built on the back of the lot in 2008 but it is vacant most of the time. Guests have full access to the patio area with many palms and cactus and seating for 6. Also the service yard with washer and dryer.
Mrs. Hart purchased this cottage in 1996
I can walk to so many places from my house. There is an excellent language school, Spanish Language Institute directly across the street; all the shops, restaurants and businesses on Avila Camacho, even the Zocalo as it is downhill from my house. I am on a cul-de sac next to a huge private home with a large garden so there is not much traffic on my street and the neighbors are wonderful friends now. They manage the property and take care of guests needs. No parking inside the property but the cul-de-sac street entrance has a locked gate and guests park on the street at night.
Weather! it is wonderful. Lots of privacy due to high walls all around. Lovely patio with palms and cactus garden. Very private.
My husband and I recently spent 5 weeks in Mexico (based in Cuernavaca). Staying at this casita was the perfect choice. It is exactly as described in the VRBO listing (other than the agave plant in the courtyard which has grown substantially and is now affectionately known as El Monstro). From my first enquiry on the listing to our return trip home, all communications with Carol have been wonderful. She was always quick to respond, patiently answered my questions and gave us lots of information about both the house and the area. Maru and Roberto (her on site managers) were equally helpful, welcoming and informative. I agree completely with the other reviews about this being a great location and that it is a truly great value. The internet worked well for us, we read alot of the books in the casita and enjoyed relaxing in the courtyard. We found the local neighbourhood to be very quiet, safe and secure, with several restaurants and a grocery store nearby. We felt quite comfortable and safe in Cuernavaca and were able to walk or taxi to the Zocalo and other locations of interest. When planning any side trips, note there are five bus stations in Cuernavaca so be sure to go to the correct one. In conclusion, I highly recommend this casita and extend my sincere thanks to Carol, Maru and Roberto. THANK-YOU!!!
I recently visited Cuernavaca and was so happy with our choice of place to stay. From the initial contact Carol, the owner was amazing. The casita had everything we needed and wanted. We cooked in quite a bit and the kitchen was fully equipped. The location is great and You are close to the Superama and lots of cute restaurants. There are always cabs available to take you to the center of the city, which is wonderful! It's a great location and great value and we will be back again for sure. Thank you again to Carol and her house managers on site who were there with anything we needed.
We were very happy to have chosen this Casita for our March stay in Cuernavaca.
The Casita is compact, but has everything two people could want : A safe location on a private,
Gated street ; next door neighbors who are close friends of the owner --both kind and helpful;
located irectly across the street from a wonderful language school, providing both Spanish instruction
and field trips to places such as the Basillica in Mexico City, the Pyramids at Teotihuacan, and
the charming , enchanted village of Tepotzan.
The outdoor space at the Casita included a large umbrella table and several wrought iron chairs,
located on a large shady patio. It also boasted a utility shed, complete with large capacity washer
A very short walk away was a delightful Plaza, with small shops, banks, and cafes.
On one side of the Plaza was a large 24 hr. Pharmacy and a fantastic Italian Restaurant.
On the other side of the Plaza was a large, modern, well-stocked Supermarket.
We mostly walked or took the local buses, and occasionally took a taxi. Cuernavaca has a lot to
offer visitors who are open to adventure and who are willing to explore the city.
Mexico is not perfect. For that matter, what Country is? When traveling , it is always best to
wear little (if any) jewelry, and to carry only small amounts of cash.
Be mindful, and be open to the beauty of the land, the people, and the culture surrounding you.
Then come home at night to your safe little Casita, and dulce suenos (sweet dreams)!!
This small 2-story home is located in a secure "privada" (gated cul-de-sac), about 20 minutes' walk from downtown Cuernavaca. If you don't want to walk, the reliable and safe radio-taxis are readily available less than a block away. Directly across the street, in the same "privada," is the excellent ASLI Spanish language school, which makes the house a perfect choice for language students. The house is charming but small: a living-room / kitchen downstairs and one bedroom with double-bed and bath up. The only seating downstairs is a couch (which opens to a bed, though it is hard to imagine it open because of limited space) plus the wooden dining-table chairs. However, there is a lovely patio area with table and chairs, which can be enjoyed every day, given the predictably warm and sunny Cuernavaca weather. Aside from wishing for more comfortable seating in the living area (which could be provided by using a smaller dining table --perhaps with a leaf which could be put down-- and some built-in cabinets to take the place of the large armoire), we were happy with the house itself. We could not have been happier with the location, which was perfect for our purposes.
We made the right choice staying in the casita. Easy to walk to shops and restaurants, including a nice grocery store, dry cleaning, salons, computer store, banks/ATM, and coffee shops. Taxis parked around the corner from the house, and we could easily get around town for 30-50 pesos per ride.
The house was well-appointed with all dishes and linens. House has phone for making calls with TelCel credit - you can send and receive text and voice messages. Bedroom has shutters to darken room completely. Small balcony is nice for watching sunsets and mountain views. American style washing machine/dryer. Carol was very helpful with travel tips and suggestions.
Two cons: Bring earplugs, as we heard a few neighborhood parties and barking dogs. Internet was a little patchy, but they are working to improve the service.
Excellent Spanish language school across the street from the casita. Spanish Language Institute. Many shops and restaurants, banks on main street nearby Avila Camacho.
