Stones Throw Cottage is an affordable place to stay and close to everything. One of the bedrooms listed is actually a large loft that covers the entire 2nd story with a bed and chase lounger on one side and another bed on the other side. We are located on the north side of Stony Lake in quiet Holiday Shores with lake access. A 2 minute walk down a private path takes you to the lake. There is a large deck with a grill and picnic table overlooking a wooded hillside. We are about 1 mile from Lake Michigan and 8 miles from the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. 10% discount for active duty military and law enforcement personnel. Please call or email if you have any questions.
My wife, 2 kids, 2 dogs and I just got back from spending a week at Stones throw and we couldn't have asked for a better trip. Todd, his wife Kim, and the caretaker Janet, are by far the nicest people you'll ever meet. The cottage was amazingly clean, and furnished with a lot of day-to-day items. Beds were comfy, and we never ran out of hot water for showers. The dogs and I enjoyed sitting on the deck and we even saw a family of turkeys and their 8 babies. We were a little disappointed at first with the limited cell/internet service but that was soon forgotten, we made a trip to Ludington to catch a movie and purchased some games and we loved have family game nights without being interupted with cells phones and video games. Even my 15 year old enjoyed it!! It's so quiet and peaceful there, exactly what we needed to relax from the daily grind. Stony lake and Silver lake are beautiful as well as Lake Michigan. If you go Parrot's Landing Jeep rentals for going out on the dunes and a visit to Country Dairy are a must!! Thank you Todd, Kim and Janet for the perfect weekend!!!
My husband, dog, and myself had a wonderful stay this past weekend! From the very start, we appreciated Todd's quick response rate and guidance in terms of activities to do in the area. When we arrived at the cottage (which is very clean!), Todd had left us a wonderful hand written note and homemade jam to welcome us! Beautiful touch and delicious! My husband and I loved the fact we had limited access to cell service in the house (cell service is available down the street) and there was no internet. We spent the evenings cooking, drinking wine, and playing cards. The area is a blast and tons of hiking/water stuff to do-we enjoyed hiking Silver Lake Sand Dunes and Pentwater Pathways. We also walking and rowing around Stoney Lake. We hope to be back soon!
We stayed there last June. I'm a little delayed on the review, but our family can't stop talking about going back!!! The kids already call it "there 2nd home". It was very clean inside & super comfy beds. We also loved the decor. Plenty of everything was supplied even though we brought mostly everything. We left some things also to add to it for the next guests or for our next visit! Oh & if you want a cell phone signal to at least text at the cottage. The best spot is upstairs on the balcony ;-) The outside is a natural landscape which we felt was beautiful! Stony Lake is just a short walk down the hill in your backyard. The neighbors aren't extremely close by, so you still have privacy but regardless are all very friendly. We even got to see some wild turkeys in one of the neighbors front yard. This entire area has so much to offer. Some of our favorites includes a quick 5 min drive to a gorgeous beach on Lake Michigan or to the other side of Stony Lake where you can enjoy a 45 min relaxing creek float under bridges, through nature that takes you to a canal & also to that gorgeous beach, Lewis Farm Market & Petting Farm, fried asparagus as the Stony Lake Inn now also sold at the Stony Lake Cafe which is also a favorite for there pizza, breakfast, & coffee. Many beaches, lighthouses & sand dunes with also dune rides, horseback riding all in the area also. It's all around one beautiful cottage and a beautiful adventure! We WILL be back!!! :-)
Tons of space, attractively decorated, well appointed, with a sweet welcome of flowers and jam. We loved it - the loft is truly huge, very nearly makes this three bedrooms. I would definitely stay there again.
We stayed at the cottage for a week, 4 adults, 1 child and a dog. We had plenty of room and a great time at the lake. The cottage is very close to Silver Lake and Lake Michigan, plenty to do and I really like the fact that there's no TV or internet..a true vacation..even the cellphones didn't work inside the home. Plenty of things in the kitchen, dishes, utensils, spices. Very clean and enjoyable place.
This quaint little cottage was perfect for my family get away. Upon arrival there were fresh cut flowers on the table, and a jar of home made raspberry jam. My husband and I shared the bedroom, while the kids slept in the loft (which they enjoyed!). We slept 5 comfortably, but the cottage could accommodate many more comfortably. Everything was clean and tidy, and the amenities were in great shape. (Fridge, microwave, oven, stovetop, washer & dryer.) The view from the deck was spectacular ... we saw lots of wildlife including rabbits and deer. I walked my girls down to the dock where we fished for bluegill and perch.
There are a lot of activities just a short drive away (horse back riding, restaurants, and a dairy farm and petting zoo). We mostly enjoyed quiet family time where we stayed up late playing games.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a cozy, quiet get away. We've decided that we are going to try and book the property every year for our family vacation.
