About Owner/Manager

We are a family of three and are North Carolina natives. Having worked for the North Carolina Outward Bound School (as Rock Climbing and field instructors), and the Nantahala Outdoor Center, both of which are based out of the Western NC Mountains, we know the area well. In 1998 we traveled to Kaliningrad Russia where we adopted our son, John. With a desire to travel less as we focused on family, we bought Oakland Cottage Bed and Breakfast where we now live, and we operate the offices of the Bed and Breakfast and vacation rental offices out of our bed and breakfast home. We love Asheville and the mountains of North Carolina.

Excellent stay at the onset of the fall in the mountains

We had a group of 10 friends for this trip. House is large, with plenty of space for all of us to comfortably enjoy a 3 night stay. The "park like 4 acres" is so accurate in the description. This house is PERFECT for some yard games. We had boccee, corn-hole, frisbee, football and had such a fantastic time. Bring some charcoal, and a nice portable speaker for the front patio, and you are in for a great time! Having the pool and hot tub out back is fantastic as well. Another cool touch is a small, covered seating area on the creek. A great spot for coffee or a cocktail.

Property is clean, nicely maintained. The ONLY small issue we had all weekend was with hot water, and the team solved this immediately. Wifi was solid. About a $20 Uber to downtown Asheville.

This house is close to Craggy Gardens Summit and Navitat Zip Lining, which I'd highly recommend. Also, we had meals in Asheville at Buxton Hall and Biscuit Head that were great.

You have a lot of space with a private driveway that takes you off the road. We were a pretty boisterous group, and felt that the tree lined property and multiple acres kept us from being too noisy for neighbors.

Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a beautiful mountain getaway! Thank you to the hosts for this great experience.

Great location, comfortable digs

  • 4 of 5

Great location for a vacation in the Ashville area. The house is located in the mountains and is private yet still close to the attractions. Ashville is about 15 minutes away. Weaverville is about 5 minutes. Pool is very nice. The outdoor grill is not gas so bring charcoal. We had 3 couples and one single and everyone got their own bedroom. Master suite is large with a sliding door out to the pool and hot tub. There is an extra bedroom off the master suite. Deck is perfect for hanging out and enjoying the mountain air, saw lots of wildlife. Hot tub is nice except that the motor for the jets is loud and obnoxious. We just satin it without using the jets. Kitchen stove was dirty and we had to wash a couple of pans prior to cooking because there was food stuff in the pan. Would recommend improved cleaning for the kitchen. Bed mattresses are a little worn but still comfortable, especially after a long day of walking in Ashville. Not sure why but the upstairs bedroom sheets and pillows had an unpleasant smell. The guests in that room did not use the pillows and purchased new sheets to use. They did not leave the sheets. Called the rental agent twice for questions and both were answered and issues resolved immediately. Very pleased with their quick and efficient response.

Simply serene!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time relaxing and enjoying the beauty, comfort, and hot tub with this cabin tucked away outside of Asheville. The home was well appointed with ample towels, books, games and well stocked kitchen. It's amazing how many bedrooms are accommodated (creative renovations), and no one could complain about not having enough bathrooms. The home was clean and inviting and provided the perfect get-away. The only downside was the noisy air vents, but not a show-stopper. Can't wait to return.

Great quiet, isolated cabin in the woods

  • 4 of 5

We pulled up to this cabin at the height of the spring blooming season. It is in a great location, and the scenery was beautiful. Lovely flowering trees, a babbling creek nearby, hot tub and pool tho a bit early to use the pool.

The rooms were spacious and clean. There was plenty of room for 8 of us, and good outdoor seating as well.

I would definitely recommend this cabin to others. A few minor inconveniences kept this from getting a 5 star rating - the main light over the dining table did not work, and that's where we often sat to eat and play games. The kitchen lacks a good Teflon pan to cook in, as well as a 9x13 casserole pan. NOTHING SERIOUS.

I'd recommend this place to anyone. Within minutes we were on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and it was about a 20 minute ride to the heart of Asheville. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Location & Charm! Views, creek, private pool, hot tub - 6 miles to Asheville, NC city limits & minutes to the quaint walking town of Weaverville. All conveniences are nearby. Hawk's View is just minutes to Reems Creek Golf Club*, Vance Birthplace* & 4 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Here's what a recent guest had to say: 'We had the most wonderful New Year at Hawk's View Chalet. It was the perfect place for all of our grown kids and two grand kids. We hiked, made smores by the fire pit, read in the hammock and enjoyed the brilliance of the winter sky at night. Our time around the dinner table created more memories, filed with laughter and telling the same old stories. It was a magical week. Everything was as you described and we were very pleased with the accommodations. Thank you again for answering all our questions prior to our trip. Your attention to detail and the courteous way you conduct business will definitely keep us coming back.' Jan 2009 Lancaster, PA
