About Owner/Manager

We are a family of three and are North Carolina natives. Having worked for the North Carolina Outward Bound School (as Rock Climbing and field instructors), and the Nantahala Outdoor Center, both of which are based out of the Western NC Mountains, we know the area well. In 1998 we traveled to Kaliningrad Russia where we adopted our son, John. With a desire to travel less as we focused on family, we bought Oakland Cottage Bed and Breakfast where we now live, and we operate the offices of the Bed and Breakfast and vacation rental offices out of our bed and breakfast home. We love Asheville and the mountains of North Carolina.

Owner/Manager purchased this cabin in 2007

Location & Charm! Views, creek, private pool, hot tub - 6 miles to Asheville, NC city limits & minutes to the quaint walking town of Weaverville. All conveniences are nearby. Hawk's View is just minutes to Reems Creek Golf Club*, Vance Birthplace* & 4 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Here's what a recent guest had to say: 'We had the most wonderful New Year at Hawk's View Chalet. It was the perfect place for all of our grown kids and two grand kids. We hiked, made smores by the fire pit, read in the hammock and enjoyed the brilliance of the winter sky at night. Our time around the dinner table created more memories, filed with laughter and telling the same old stories. It was a magical week. Everything was as you described and we were very pleased with the accommodations. Thank you again for answering all our questions prior to our trip. Your attention to detail and the courteous way you conduct business will definitely keep us coming back.' Jan 2009 Lancaster, PA

Very neat setting although the house needed some cleaning and upkeep done.

  • 2 of 5

The structure was cool. The house smelled kind of musty like it had been closed up for quite some time. The smell was terribly evident in all the linens and bedding. The house needed a thorough cleaning and some upkeep done. There was some maintenance issues that could've used some attention. We did encounter about 4 spiders in the house during our stay that were about the size of a silver dollar. Overall the house was neat just not very clean and the bedding/linens stunk, they smelled bad enough that we washed the bedding throughout the house after the first night there. The pool and hot tub were nice and the check in and check out was a very simple and positive experience. We would be willing to give Homeaway another try. If our second experience would find another property with similar issues we would undoubtedly be looking for a different company to rent from in the future. We expected a cleaner nicer place than this for what we payed.

Puppy Dog Paradise! 3 acres for them to run and a creek to cool off in. Quiet, beautiful setting!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time at Hawks View! The dogs were in their glory... The house isn't fancy but certainly has everything anyone could need. Wish the pool had been open but next time we'll plan during open season. Love, Love, Love this spectacular spot in mountains, the "Bug Box" over the babbling brook is outstanding and so relaxing, what a treat to find such a perfect getaway. Thanks for offering this fine property!!

A Wonderful Family Christmas

  • 5 of 5

The chalet was decorated beautifully for Christmas-we really appreciated the Christmas tree! The house was very roomy and slept six adults comfortably. The grounds were in wonderful shape. Our only two quibbles-the lack of outdoor lighting which made it hard to get out to our car during the early darkness this time of year, and the condition of the towels. Other than that, we all really enjoyed our stay and would definitey book again!! Thank you!!

Private but close to civilisation!

  • 4 of 5

We had loads of room but were still close to food stores and shopping. Hiking opportunities and breweries abound. Great eating places close by and a hot tub to relax in. This place is a winner!

Excellent stay at the onset of the fall in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of 10 friends for this trip. House is large, with plenty of space for all of us to comfortably enjoy a 3 night stay. The "park like 4 acres" is so accurate in the description. This house is PERFECT for some yard games. We had boccee, corn-hole, frisbee, football and had such a fantastic time. Bring some charcoal, and a nice portable speaker for the front patio, and you are in for a great time! Having the pool and hot tub out back is fantastic as well. Another cool touch is a small, covered seating area on the creek. A great spot for coffee or a cocktail.

Property is clean, nicely maintained. The ONLY small issue we had all weekend was with hot water, and the team solved this immediately. Wifi was solid. About a $20 Uber to downtown Asheville.

This house is close to Craggy Gardens Summit and Navitat Zip Lining, which I'd highly recommend. Also, we had meals in Asheville at Buxton Hall and Biscuit Head that were great.

You have a lot of space with a private driveway that takes you off the road. We were a pretty boisterous group, and felt that the tree lined property and multiple acres kept us from being too noisy for neighbors.

Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a beautiful mountain getaway! Thank you to the hosts for this great experience.
