Overview

About the property

PARROTS PERCH in Long Beach, South Abaco is a charming cottage 2 mns walk from the most beautiful crescent beach in Abaco.

Flocks of the Abaco Parrots and a secluded beautiful pink sand beach are your daily intake at this amazing off the beaten path location.

Parrots Perch Cottage is 30/45mns drive (30 miles) from Marsh-Harbour international airport, 15/20mns drive from Sandy Point (very south tip of the island) and 20/25mns drive from Little Harbour and Cherokee.

And 5 miles from the ABACO NATIONAL PARK, habitat and nesting area for the protected Abaco Parrots.

A car rental is highly recommended.

PARROTS PERCH at LONG BEACH is very spacious, bright and airy. It has high ceiling, lot of screened windows & doors and ceiling fans in all rooms.

The master bedroom has French sliding windows opening on a pergola patio. The bathroom is on the other side of the corridor in front of the master bedroom. The living area is a large open space with a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area and a living area,

During the day, we love to open all windows and screen doors and let the sea breeze come in. It is gorgeous and you can hear the surf from home. You may need the AC only during summer nights. I lived in Parrot Perch many summers and never used the AC but I am European. My American husband on the contrary like the AC during the hot summer nights. You have the choice.

There is a washing machine in the laundry cabinet ( on the side of the dining area ) and we have European style "open air dryer" in the back garden. It is more fun and the laundry smells divine.

There is the possibility to have a third person sleeping in the living room (very comfortable single bed which we use as well as a daybed or sofa).

Before your arrival, a super sized hammock (2persons Pawleys Island Presidential) is installed in the shade of the beautiful umbrella tree. This is our favorite spot to watch the birds (the Abaco Parrots, hummingbirds, flycatchers, woodpeckers, herons…).

We provide a second hammock which we like to hang under the bedroom patio pergola. Perfect spot to enjoy the sunrise and listen to the breeze in the palms.

We provide as well two very comfortable folding chairs you can use around the yard and of course bring to the beach, together with an umbrella and beach towels.

Please use the outdoor shower (hot water) in the back garden to sand off after the beach. You will want to use it as a regular shower anyway as it is just delightful-:)

Please always rinse the chairs coming back from the beach and keep them stored inside when not in use. Merci! -:)

Guest Access

We live in Charleston South Carolina. Parrots Perch in Abaco is our holiday home. During your stay, the all house and property is yours.

Interaction with Guests

We are always available to answer any questions regarding Parrots Perch, your trip, the island, etc. We are both very passionate about the Abacos. Robert has been traveling there extensively since 2000. I lived and worked on the island for 3 amazing years and Parrots Perch has been our island home since 2007.

KENTRELL WALKER, your island host, will be your local contact during your stay at Parrots Perch. Kentrell works part time at the Delphi Club and lives in Crossing Rock (3mns drive from Parrots Perch) with her husband Marvin and her 3 children.

Kentrell cell: (242) 475-7903

Kentrell will give you our local "top-up" cell phone at check-in so you can be in touch with her anytime you need (questions, recommendations, check-out, etc.). We use this local cell phone as well to check on restaurants, order at Judy's takeaway, etc.

Kentrell will put $10 credit before giving you the phone. It is plenty for a week usage. Would you need more units, you can top-up in any shop on Abaco (grocery shop in Crossing Rock for instance).

The Neighborhood

LONG BEACH is approximatively 30 miles (35 mins drive) SOUTH of Marsh Harbour (Abaco main city & main airport), just between Schooner Bay community and the native village of Crossing Rock.

Long Beach is secluded and off the beaten path. It is absolute paradise when your dream is about tranquillity, a spectacular beach and beautiful nature.

Island Homes community (the only community on Long Beach) is gorgeous and extremely friendly. Very few houses and all home owners in love with the place and respectful of its beauty.

Getting Around

DRIVING DIRECTION FROM MARSH HARBOUR AIRPORT TO LONG BEACH:

When you exit the airport lane, you get on a big roundabout, take the 4th exit onto Great Abaco Highway and keep driving on this highway for 45kms (30 miles) or about 35/40mns direction Sandy Point (south). Island Home at Long Beach is just in-between Schooner Bay and Crossing Rocks. When you pass Schooner Bay, you are just one minute away further on the highway from Island Home portico entrance. Parrot Perch is the second house on your right.

RENTING A CAR IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for a stay at Parrots Perch. If you search online, you will find several rental car companies in Marsh Harbour.

Example: RENTAL WHEELS (They bring your car at the airport, etc.)

Personally, I always use TONY RUSSELL services when we are on island. Tony lives in Crossing Rock and has a small fleet of cars.

Other Things to Note

FRESH PRODUCE & GROCERY:

Our routine, when we arrive on the island is to go to one of Marsh Harbour supermarkets and buy the basic grocery we will need during our stay. For the rest of the stay there are small grocery shops in Crossing Rock (5mns drive) and largest one in Sandy Point (20mns drive) and in Cherokee (25mns drive). Small but you can buy all basics there and it is quite fun.

What we enjoy most of all is to get all our fresh produce (veggies, herbs, fruits, eggs) from SCHOONER BAY ORGANIC FARM, DRIFTWOOD FOOD CY (3mns drive from Parrots Perch.

January 7, 2017 Update:

Farm will be open on Mondays and Thursdays for Terran to harvest your orders: 8:00am-1:00pm.
