About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

This traditional, updated, two-story 'Nantucket upside-down Colonial' offers striking panoramic ocean and sunset views. The home is across the street from the ocean and adjacent to conservation land, with miles of quiet, unpaved paths for you to wander. It is close enough to town to enjoy its many fine shops and restaurants, yet far enough away from this island's busy town to allow for peace and relaxation while enjoying the ocean view or a star-filled sky.

Our smoke-free home is also close to 'Sconset' and all of its charms. Dine on the spacious deck and enjoy the sights and sounds of the ocean. The house also offers an enclosed outdoor shower and a gas barbecue grill.

The first floor has three bedrooms, two full baths- one with tub and shower, the other with shower, and laundry. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed, the second bedroom also has a queen bed and the third bedroom has a set of twin beds. The master bedroom has an HDTV with full digital cable.

Walk upstairs into the large A-frame open floor plan with updated kitchen (including range, microwave, blender, margarita maker, coffeemaker), deck off of the living room, dining room, living room with comfortable seating for up to 7, 32' HD cable TV and DVD player, home theater system, desk/workstation with high-speed internet, and half-bath.

There are two sets of linens provided for each bed as well as a full set of towels and beach towels. Beach chairs are also included. The yard is very private with naturally landscaped borders.

Our home is not far from the bike path from town to Sconset, where you can enjoy biking, jogging, rollerblading, or pick up the shuttle to town. It is also just a short leisurely walk (about 5-10 minutes) to the uncrowded beach at the end of the street, where there is also a playground and ball field.

Included in rentals of one week or longer is a one-year family membership to the Nantucket Historical Association, which provides the following benefits:

Free admission to the Whaling Museum and all historic sites

Free use of the NHA’s research library and archives

Free seasonal walking tours of downtown Nantucket

Invitations to special events, lectures, and concerts

An invitation to the Annual Meeting and voting privileges

Discounts on classes and programs

Invitations to members-only exhibition previews

Reciprocal benefits with over 150 museums and historical societies nationwide through the Time Travelers program

About Rich Hjulstrom

We had been Nantucket vacationers for a number of years when we finally decided to become landowners and have a place we could enjoy and share Nantucket's beauty and charm with others.

Rich Hjulstrom purchased this house in 2004

Why Rich Hjulstrom chose Nantucket

The view from the upstairs living area sold us immediately. Just breathtaking on a clear day. The neighborhood is quiet and near the beach. A perfect location for a beach house, yet close enough to the bike path to make it accessible to town or 'Sconset.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"I have stayed in this property for a business trip in September and loved it. Wish I could have stayed longer. I am currently planning a vacation with family to stay in this house for July and can't wait to use the beach and go whale-watching. The house is roomy and very clean. It has all the amenities that you could need. The location is perfect too: remote enough to feel secluded, but close enough to easily get to town."

My parents own this house, so I got to be one of the privileged few to stay there for Thanksgiving. :) I hadn't seen the work that had been done since we originally looked at the house (I'm in college out of state), and I loved the house! It was comfortable and cozy, and the view of the ocean was breathtaking. The distance from 'Sconset was entirely manageable, and even town was a pleasant ride (by bike or car). I cannot wait to stay there again later!

A little bit of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful late summer stay with adult children. The house had everything we needed. It had that great combination of a cozy older home which has been updated as needed, with modern bathrooms and kitchen appliances. Beds were comfy and everything was clean. Good televisions (essential for the Patriots season opener!) It has a nice private yard. But the upper deck is where we spent most of our time when we were at home. You have a view of the ocean, even the sound of the surf. Perfect spot to watch the sunset each evening. Heavenly! We had a car, which I would recommend. It is about a 20 minute drive into town or to Sconset. Even to get to the beach, you'd want at least a bike.

Perfect location, beautiful view, bright & clean

  • 5 of 5

We have been renting this property for many years, it is perfect for our family! Close to Tom Nevers beach offering beautiful breezes and sunsets. Located between Town and Siasconset making it easy to explore the entire island. The house is bright, clean, and offers all the conveniences we love (upscale bathrooms, gas grille, outdoor shower, washer, dryer, dishwasher and linens). This has become our second home, we will continue to rent this property for years to come!

Best Place Yet

  • 5 of 5

We've rented on the island for several years now and have stayed in different homes in various parts of Nantucket. We've been looking for a place that we can come back to year after year and this house is it. It's updated and immaculately kept. It was in a perfect location - close enough to be near town but far enough away to really feel like a getaway. The views are breathtaking with a nice size yard. It was a wonderful and very comfortable stay for 4 adults and 2 children. Our 6 year old keeps asking when we're going back and the answer is not soon enough!

Absolutely lovely!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed in this home during our trip to Nantucket in August of 2014. The home and surrounding area were absolutely gorgeous, and the view from the second floor porch was unparalleled. The kitchen was fully stocked with all of the appliance essentials (including a margarita machine!), the furniture was tasteful and comfortable, and the home was exceptionally clean upon arrival. I hope to book the Upside-Down house again in the future.

Welcome Back!

  • 5 of 5

It was my first time in the house for a few years. These is such a sense of peace and calm that comes over someone as they enter the house. It is so removed from the hustle and bustle of the town. Having the only sound being heard is the wind and ocean does amazing things to the soul. Can't wait until the next time I visit!
