About Jennifer Wales

Adam and Jen have a deep love and understanding of the natural beauty surrounding the Acadia/Mount Desert Island area. Jen grew up summers on Long Pond and Adam on a 110-acre farm in Western Maine adjoining the Appalachian Trail. They met here in Bar Harbor working as sea kayak guides in the summer of 1993.

Over the years, they have hiked, biked, paddled, and sailed every conceivable route on and around Mount Desert. Adam completed his goal of hiking every trail on the Island in the summer of 1994 and Jen authored The Sea Kayaker's Guide to Mount Desert Island published by Down East Books in 1997. Together they paddled the Maine Island Trail, a 175-mile 28-day kayaking trip from Portland to Machias, up the entire Maine coastline.

In the summer of 2000, Jen and Adam started Mountain Sea Properties with a single house, Eagle Cliff, where they were married that same summer. The owner had approached them expressing her frustration renting the home through larger rental operations on the island. She complained that her house was one of hundreds represented so the service she received was minimal. She also stated that those who rented the house were not as well informed as they could be. The tenants were also one of hundreds and the service they received was minimal.

Adam and Jen offered to represent the house committing to providing top quality service to both owners and tenants by representing a limited number of houses and providing personalized vacation services.

Since then, Mountain Sea Properties has grown along with the Wales family. As year-round members of the Island’s community, Adam and Jen are dedicated to the vitality of the people of Mount Desert Island. Thus, each year they donate a portion of their proceeds to local organizations devoted to sustaining the beauty and well-being of the Mount Desert Island area.

Comfy cozy hideout

  • 5 of 5

We were so happy with our stay in the Guest House! It was perfect for my husband and I; close to Acadia and downtown, but far enough away for plenty of peace and quiet. It was also fun to explore the trail nearby! The house had everything we might need for the week, and we were able to cook most of our meals in the pretty kitchen. We'll definitely be back again!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much Jill. I'm glad to hear that you had such a great time on the trails and beach near the house and were able to really settle in and use the kitchen. It really is the perfect blend of privacy and yet so convenient to Bar Harbor. We would love to have you back and look forward to seeing you again. Jen Wales

Very cozy, clean and convenient

  • 5 of 5

The Guest House was a perfect place for us (3 hiking women). Jennifer is very accommodating and easy to work with. The house was very cozy, clean and convenient. The description and pictures were right on. We spent most of our time hiking Acadia trails which were very easy to locate. Cadiallac Mountain sunrise is a must see and well worth the EARLY wake up. Lobster at Beal's Lobster Pier was fun and delicious and don't pass on the coastal hike from Thunder Hole to Otter Cove. We will definitely stay here on our next visit (whenever that might be!).

Quiet setting close to Bar Harbor

Nice clean house with all amenities and lawn area for outside activities. Town is easily accessible by walking or biking yet quiet enough where you may have deer in your yard.

Cozy and quiet

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about the cottage. The cottage has warm, clean and comfortable space, and it is fully equipped. We looked forward to returning there after long, busy days in Acadia. The location was perfect.....an easy walk to Bar Harbor, and close to several park entrances. The very best part is the quiet.....surrounded by trees, tucked back in a private road, and with an easy walk to the water. Jen was always responsive to our questions. We would definitely return to the cottage!

Little Paradise in the Woods

  • 4 of 5

This is our second time at the Guest House-perfect for 4 people. If folks are looking for the perfect location, then this is it. Out the front door one has days hikes into Acadia and walking distance to downtown BH. It doesn't get any better. Take a little half mile hike to Compass Harbor and Dorr Point. The house is well appointed, clean, and cozy. If one is into history, soak it in a little here since this house is on the original estate of George Dorr -"Father of Acadia". When we arrived, the house was accidentally locked when it was supposed to be left open. No problem! I called Jen and we were into the property in just a few minutes. Come visit and you won't be disappointed.

Owner's Response: It's wonderful to have to such kind guests return year in and year out. In this case, there was a substitute cleaner brought in at the last min who mistakenly locked the front door. We are always on call the night of your arrival just in case there are any issues.

Edge of the Park & Ocean

  • 5 of 5

Location, Location, Location...This cottage is a short walk to a beautiful cove, my wife spends hours sitting on the beach reading while a bald eagle may soar overhead or a seal pop up out of the water. My daughter walked into Bar Harbor for shopping. My son jumped on the hiking trails nearby to explore Acadia's mountains.

The cottage is perfect for a small family and comes fully equipped. One of the highlights this year was our lobster feast in the dining room with the meal prepared by the traveling lobster take out restaurant.

We have stayed here over fours years and we still haven't finished our Acadia to do list! We will be back! The Moores

The location of this house is perfect. At the end of a small private road through Acadia National Park, the Guest House is only one mile from Bar Harbor where you can access a free shuttle bus that travels around greater Mount Desert Island and through Acadia National Park. The main auto entrance to Acadia National Park is only 2 miles away where you can drive or bike the famous Park Loop Rd and all its attractions.

The Park’s newest trail, built in 2008, allows one to literally walk from the house into the 130-mile network of hiking trails, bike to the 45 miles of Carriage Roads, or simply stroll into town for an ice cream cone. Compass Cove, a little known parcel of Acadia National Park, is just a 5 min walk where there is a secluded and well-protected sand beach and tide pools. This area is a wonderful place to explore with kids or have a quiet sun-drenched beach all to your self.

This cottage is ideal for couples, a small family or a romantic honeymoon retreat.

Other Activities: Next to ocean beach and hiking trails within Acadia National Park. We know from our own experience managing family vacations that it can be quite a job. A little local knowledge and some extra help can make your vacation more enjoyable and hassle free. We offer a number of vacation planning services to our tenants including local information and recommendations, catering, massage therapy and house keeping.

Golf: Famous Kebo Valley Golf Club is just 2 miles away. There is also the Northeast Harbor as well as the Bar Harbor Golf clubs located near by.
