About Jennifer Wales
Adam and Jen have a deep love and understanding of the natural beauty surrounding the Acadia/Mount Desert Island area. Jen grew up summers on Long Pond and Adam on a 110-acre farm in Western Maine adjoining the Appalachian Trail. They met here in Bar Harbor working as sea kayak guides in the summer of 1993. Over the years, they have hiked, biked, paddled, and sailed every conceivable route on and around Mount Desert. Adam completed his goal of hiking every trail on the Island in the summer of 1994 and Jen authored The Sea Kayaker's Guide to Mount Desert Island published by Down East Books in 1997. Together they paddled the Maine Island Trail, a 175-mile 28-day kayaking trip from Portland to Machias, up the entire Maine coastline. In the summer of 2000, Jen and Adam started Mountain Sea Properties with a single house, Eagle Cliff, where they were married that same summer. The owner had approached them expressing her frustration renting the home through larger rental operations on the island. She complained that her house was one of hundreds represented so the service she received was minimal. She also stated that those who rented the house were not as well informed as they could be. The tenants were also one of hundreds and the service they received was minimal. Adam and Jen offered to represent the house committing to providing top quality service to both owners and tenants by representing a limited number of houses and providing personalized vacation services. Since then, Mountain Sea Properties has grown along with the Wales family. As year-round members of the Island’s community, Adam and Jen are dedicated to the vitality of the people of Mount Desert Island. Thus, each year they donate a portion of their proceeds to local organizations devoted to sustaining the beauty and well-being of the Mount Desert Island area.

The awesome views from the front porch are mesmerizing. If it weren’t for easy access to ANP, we would not have left the property. Can’t wait to come back!
Perfect home for family vacation
This is a beautiful house, very well equipped and furnished. It has spacious comfortable rooms and spectacular views from the terrace. The location is remote enough to provide privacy and immersion in nature, but downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are within walking distance. We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely book again next time we travel to the island. It was the perfect base for a very memorable vacation.
We so enjoyed our stay at “Eagle Cliff”. It was beautiful with breathtaking views, secluded yet close to Bar Harbor.
Jennifer was so kind and helpful. Loved meeting her.
So delighted to hear your enjoyed your stay and the view. It was a pleasure to meet you as well!
A wonderful house in a spectacular location overlooking the bay!
The house is wonderful and the views amazing. Sunrise and sunsets, leaves changing. What a great week we had. The house is spacious and fully equipped for cooking and relaxing. Loved the furnishings which had many special Victorian pieces. We will certainly return again to stay. Jen who manages the property was so delightful to us.
Amazing views is what this property is all about!!!
This is our happy place!
We all love this home - with comfortable furniture and eclectic decor. This was our second stay at Eagle Cliff; and I'm sure there will be many many more. The water views are spectacular (especially on the patio). The house is very homey - whether we are spending a rainy day there playing cards.. Or just stopping in between hikes. I can't recommend this home highly enough for a wonderful family vacation.
Eagle Cliff is a property most often rented by the same families returning year after year. We have a tenant who is currently on their 19th year and another on their 12th. They have been come part of our Mountain Sea Properties family and are delighted to see them again and again.
Wonderful house, wonderful view, wonderful service and provisioning
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Eagle Cliff. We were amazed at how complete the house and its furnishings were. We needed absolutely nothing except the food we wished to eat. The house was a delightful old house, updated with all modern conveniences and well maintained. The view was extraordinary from kitchen, dining room, living room, porch and some of the bedrooms.
Thank you, Jen Wales and company, for the excellent service and accommodations.
Eric Horton and family, Satellite Beach Florida.
You are more then welcome Eric and family! The house is a historic home built in the late 1800's, one of the original Rusticators Cottages as they were called and just down the street from the home of George Door, one of the founding fathers of Acadia National Park. The foundation of his home, Old Farm, is just a short 5 min walk from Eagle Cliff literally into the Park. We do our best to keep the house maintained and with a huge renovation in 2018 adding a large fully accessible downstairs master suite with king and roll in shower, we are quite pleased with the current state of this amazing property.
The location of this house is perfect. At the end of a small private road through Acadia National Park, Eagle Cliff is only one mile from Bar Harbor where you can access a free shuttle bus that travels around greater Mount Desert Island and through Acadia National Park. The main auto entrance to Acadia National Park is only two miles away where you can drive or bike the famous Park Loop Rd and all its attractions.
The Park’s newest trail, built in 2008, allows one to literally walk from the house into the 130-mile network of hiking trails, bike to the 45 miles of Carriage Roads, or simply stroll into town for an ice cream cone. Compass Cove, a little known parcel of Acadia National Park, is just a 5 min walk to a secluded and well-protected sand beach and tide pools. This area is a wonderful place to explore with kids, or have a quiet sun-drenched beach all to your self.
A special property sure to please even the most discerning tastes with the perfect blend of quiet and accessibility, historic charm and modern comfort.
