Welcome to this beautiful cape overlooking Eggemoggin Reach in Sedgwick, Maine. 'Sunnyreach' is located on the beautiful Blue Hill Peninsula, facing south overlooking Eggemoggin Reach, just before the bridge to Deer Isle. Edgehill beach is a pleasant walk from the house and the Benjamin River dock is 5 minutes via car.
The house has four bedrooms and three full baths. The rooms are well supplied with fresh linens and towels. The master bedroom has a queen bed and private bath with a tub located on the first floor, as well as another full bath in the laundry area. There are three bedrooms upstairs, with six twin beds, and a shared full bath. The kitchen is professionally equipped with a Sub-Zero refrigerator, six burner Wolf range, appliances, dish washer and a microwave. The two terraces provide a great spot to meet the morning sun and wonderful area to have a quiet dinner and watch for wild life in the fields. The presence of wild turkeys in the back yard is a common occurrence and a welcome site!
There are a multitude of activities for everyone's interests including art galleries, Kneisal Hall Chamber Music School and Festival, the WoodenBoat School and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. Sedgwick is home to Caterpillar Hill, one of New England’s most spectacular and photographed views. Be sure to stop by Eggemoggin Country Store or Millbrook Restaurant for some early morning coffee and wonderful pastries. Sedgwick is a lovely place to visit during the summer months or in the autumn when the foliage is spectacular.
Stonington is a working fishing village with its galleries, restaurants, the Opera House and mailboat to Isle au Haut is 20 minutes travel. Pick up fresh caught lobsters for dinner at the Stonington Coop. In the summer customers enjoy coming to the Coop dock to watch the boats unload and to enjoy the spectacular view of Stonington harbor and the surrounding islands. The adventurous ones may go down onto the float to personally pick out their lobsters for dinner. Somehow a vacation in Maine isn’t complete for most people unless they’ve had a fresh caught lobster, and more than one person has commented that they’ve never had better than one from Stonington. Blue Hill with shops, galleries, restaurants and banking facilities is 12 miles by car. The Blue Hill Wineshop has a terrific selection of wines, coffees, teas, cigars, and plenty of advice and good cheer. Mt. Desert Island including Arcadia National Park and Bar Harbor and is 1 hour travel distance.
We have restored many beautiful houses over the years; which is indeed a 'labor of love'. I am an interior designer and antique dealer and have enjoyed a wonderful experience restoring this home. We live and work in the Boston area and travel between Boston and Maine as much as possible. We fell in love with this home and this area years ago and hope you will too. Our goal is to make your stay enjoyable, relaxing, and memorable. You are welcome to enjoy it when we are not in residence!
Sedgwick is home to what is arguably one of the most photographed views in the state of Maine. Caterpillar Hill affords a sweeping vista across blueberry fields to Penobscot Bay and Camden in the west, south to Isle au Haut, and east to Jericho Bay. We fell in love with this property the moment we first discovered it! The house is perched high up looking south toward the Reach, commonly known as Eggemoggin Reach. The annual 'Eggemoggin Reach Regatta' is a 15-mile course with approximately 125 boats and has been a happening since beginnings in 1985. The Regatta has remained the same over the years and only once was the race cancelled due to fog! Brooklin Boat Yard is a custom yacht builder, yacht designer, and boat yard. They specialize in new construction of custom yachts and the restoration of classic yachts. It's an adventure and worth the visit! The house has always been referred to as 'Sunnyreach' for it's bright sunlit rooms, sunny disposition, and the resulting happiness it brings to all.
My family and I loved our stay at Sunnyreach. It is a beautiful house in a beautiful part of Maine!!! It worked perfectly for our large family. Thank you for being so accommodating.
The house was lovely and inviting. The setting was perfect, including the exquisite stone patio and expansive yard. We were delighted with the arrangement of a first floor master bedroom and ample space upstairs with three beautiful bedrooms and adorable bath.. The kitchen was clean and modern with eastern exposure.
We hope to return next summer. It was perfect. Thanks for being such wonderful hosts and sharing your home with us.
This is our second visit to 'Sunnyreach' and we're sure to be back again. From the pictures you can see this is a beautifully designed, tastefully restored antique Cape. Beautiful New England! It is luxuriously appointed and tastefully decorated. We go to Maine in early October for the foliage and hiking. The weather can be a little crisp but it's perfect for us and the location is excellent for some of the best trails in Acadia. If you go in the spring or summer you will especially appreciate the outside living -- two spectacular terraces and magical gardens surrounding the house on this beautiful property. The flowers, plantings, sculptures, and foliage are a joy to experience as you meander about the acreage. The caretaker does a meticulous job of manicuring every inch of the outside. There is a whimsy to it all that will enrich your time here and create special memories. Oh, if you happen to get a cool snap, be sure sit in front of the crackling fireplace in the Barn Room with a nice Chardonnay!
Our family of four spent two weeks, it was a taste of heaven, and we loved the place and look forward to going back again! We loved waking up and making breakfast and walking on the beach along Naskeag Point, where we often had excellent late lunch. The beach was wonderful! What a perfect setting and we relaxed and had superb weather too. Spent some time hiking and doing fun geocahes locally. The house was beautiful and the amenities were perfect. We dined at some of the great restaurants in Blue Hill, Brooklin and Castine. The Stonington Coop was perfect, as we bought 15 lobsters for a great feast and cooked them at home on the back terrace. Thank you for the recommendation, it was perfect! Can't wait to come back again...the place was great and we feel like it is the perfect get-away. You were both so easy to work with, thank you again for accommodating us! See you next summer. All the best, Mary and Joseph
