This bright and sunny water's edge cottage has been totally restored. It is located within one scenic mile of downtown Boothbay Harbor. Decorated in the 'Shabby Chic' style, it has three lovely bedrooms with water views from every window.
You can sit on the deck and watch Bald Eagles and Osprey dive for fish, or walk down to the water's edge and go for a swim off the dock. Kayak out to the the island, or paddle in the canoe at sunset. Play croquet or badminton in the spacious yard. Then again you can just sit in the Adirondack chairs and read a good book or do nothing at all.
This property is located on an ocean inlet that was dammed by the town in 1875, and is fed by fresh water streams. It's the best of both worlds. It looks like you are on the ocean, but you have a crystal clear freshwater lake in which to swim.
We live outside Boston and are a three hour drive from Boothbay Harbor. If life didn't get in the way with work etc…. we would be up there every weekend. When there we hate to leave, but it makes us happy to know that family, friends and tenants are able to enjoy our little piece of heaven as much as we do,
Brenda MacGovern purchased this cottage in 2001
My Grandfather built an ocean front home in Boothbay Harbor 1923 and because of this I have vacationed in Boothbay all my life. I live an hour from Cape Cod and have only been there 5 times. There is nothing like the coast of Maine.
When we came upon the cottage we were in the right place at the right time. We knew we had found the perfect spot even before stepping inside and knew this was the cottage of our dreams. A diamond in the rough. We have been blessed to find this perfect spot.
My husband and I rented in Maine for many years before we bought our property. We have stayed at many different rental properties some which I was not very happy with upon arrival... I know how hard we all work to be able to go on vacation. With this in mind I have tried my best to make the cottage a place that you will want to return to year after year. God is good.
The way life should be :)….
Like many, we viewed the pictures on the net to help us make our decision - we couldn't be more pleased. The descriptions are even prettier and PERFECT in person. The cottage felt like home to us immediately, it is beautifully decorated, yet comfortable, spotlessly clean and stocked with high quality items, books, games, movies and surrounded by a view that is spectacular. Where can you get cable and wirless internet in a cottage? You do here!
Plenty to do for our family of 4, kayaks are new and easy to use, biking, canoeing all ready for your use. BB Harbor town is two minutes away, offering up plenty to shop, eat, explore. Owners provide pointers, guide books and everything you will need to consider your choices of things to do.
As 1st timers in BB Harbor and to the cottage, we would return here in a heartbeat and recommend to others. Dealing with the owner was easy, friendly and a pleasure.
This place is true nirvana. We've come for two summers and plan to come again next year. It's a classic New England cottage set on lovely rangy grounds, complete with gardens and tall trees surrounding, a deck for eating breakfast on in the mornings, plenty of bird life (especially hummingbirds!), and a lovely wide pond that is still free of noisy water traffic. The swimming is terrific off the small float at the water's edge. The house itself is beautifully appointed, with 3 bedrooms, a bath, a big comfy living room/dining room, and a great kitchen with island. Furnishings are cottage-style and not fussy, and there is comfort throughout. It's a quick drive into town, but then a return to a quiet and serene place without neighbors right on top of you. Can't say enough about the hosts, who go out of their way for us. We love them AND their place, and we're already looking forward to our next trip!
We couldn't have asked for a better Maine waterfront experience! The owner is an artist which shows in every decorating detail, and she left wonderful ideas for enjoying the beautiful area. Could rave about so many reasons to stay here, but our favorites were the dock, canoe, kayaks, sunsets, stars and meals on
the grill with a well equipped kitchen. If we didn't live in CA., we'd come every year.
My wife and I spent our honeymoon at this absolutely gorgeous home. We grilled, we kayaked, we sat on a dock looking out at beautiful sunrises and sunsets over an equally beautiful body of water ... one of the best weeks of our lives. Trying to figure out when we'll get back up here. Not soon enough!
This is a beautifully decorated cottage, in a perfect setting. It is comfortable with plenty of room to relax whether inside or outside in the adirondack chairs in front of the water. It is very cozy and impeccably maintained. It is conveniently located about a mile from the center of town. The owner is very nice and has plenty of suggestions to make sure you enjoy your stay in the area. We really have enjoyed the Booth Bay area, but mostly this lovely cottage.
We enjoyed a delightful week at this lovely waterfront cottage in late September. Its owners have thought of everything to make their guests feel welcome, comfortable, and perfectly at home. We loved the tranquil water views from every window -- each different, serene and superb! We also relished its "shabby chic" decor (more chic than shabby!) and meticulous attention to detail. We discovered lots of charming surprises at every turn -- from antique animal doorstops peeking out of corners, to a pretty mural on an interior door, creative tablescapes, inviting sofas, cozy beds, funky little chandeliers, and so much more.
Lingering over an early-morning coffee on the expansive deck was a memorable indulgence. So were late-afternoon chats on the dock, Scrabble grudge-matches at the painted dining table, peaceful evenings curled up with a good book. This smartly renovated cottage combined generous doses of vintage charm with much-appreciated creature comforts, including an immaculate new bathroom, robust water pressure, a thoroughly equipped country kitchen, cable television, and wireless internet access!
Did we mention that, in addition to kayaking, swimming, bicycling and croquet, this beautifully-planted waterfront property features a soul-restoring rope hammock and timeless white Adirondack chairs, each carefully situated to take full advantage of picture-postcard views?
From the moment we first walked down the seductive stone garden path to its unassuming front door, this restful cottage provided all the privacy and comfort we had hoped for, yet it was just a few minutes from the restaurants, art galleries and boat excursions of Boothbay Harbor village.
A rare and enchanting find.
