About Becky Vernon
Our home was built in 2002. We purchased the lot in 1997 and our families dream to have a home at the beach came to fruition in 2002. We are originally from the midwest and completed our undergraduate work at Indiana University. Mark completed his post graduate work at Purdue University. In 1988 we settled in Virginia. So although we are midwesterners at heart our home is Virginia. Both of our children and their spouses are graduates of UVA. The Vernon family has enjoyed the Outer Banks for years, and we feel fortunate to be able to share the love of the ocean with our 6 grandchildren.

Why Becky Vernon chose Ocean Sands
Home is something incredibly special to us, and that is the case with our vacation home as well. We love to keep improving and updating the house each year to ensure our guests are comfortable and have a memorable vacation with your family. In the fall of 2016 we updated much of the decor, adding new art, pillows, nightstands, lamps, cozy seating areas in the bedrooms. Other updates for the 2017 season include: * new outdoor girl * a second full size fridge added to the ground floor rec room * new ceiling fans in 2 bedrooms * entry benches and hooks at both main entrances to corral shoes, bags, jackets and towels The heating and air conditioning units were replaced in 2015.

The property was in a great location and distance from beach access. The owner was very receptive of questions and easy to contact. The private pool was clean and definitely a bonus. The house Could use some updating inside but very well stocked with necessities for the week. We Loved all the the bedrooms on the various levels, the 2nd fridge was huge and the pool table was a hit. The bunk beds need some work as they are starting to fall apart and I would recommend that the owners wash the quilt comforters as they were not very clean in the downstairs rooms specifically. Overall we had a great week and the house had a lot to offer in location and amenities!
We will be adding a rotation of clean quilts to the cleaning schedule so they will be as fresh as the first week of the rental season. Plans for the 2020 rental season will include replacement/repair of furnishings/ appliances in need along with adding ceiling fans to two master suites for our guests comfort. We are committed to taking the necessary steps so that guests will want to make Mt. Vernon their Outer Banks retreat. Our goal has been and will continue to be that guests throughout the rental season find a home as well cared for as the guests of the first week of the rental season. To returning guests we offer a repeat renter discount. Contact us for the details.
Mt. Vernon - family friendly, awesome!
Mt. Vernon was an awesome vacation rental for us. We split it between four families, total of 7 adults and 5 kids. It was great to have a master for each set of parents, and the kids LOVED having bunk beds and their own space. It's a very short walk to the beach, close enough we could just take the necessities and run back to the house for snack, drink refills, bathrooms, whatever else we needed. The outdoor shower was great to rinse off the sand. The pool and hot tub were well maintained, and plenty of lounge furniture outside for everyone to relax on. The location is great - no 30+ minute drive to the grocery store (5 kids eat a lot!) or any other activities. The neighborhood was private and quiet, and easy access to trails for those of us that wanted to run or bike. I highly recommend this rental!
Wonderful location, large home with great decks.
Fully equipped kitchen, this home lacks nothing.
The furniture for the pool area was increased this year which made it really nice for all the family to sit and enjoy.
Thank you for selecting our home again this year for your family vacation.
We enjoyed the home. Convenient to beach and layout is great for families.
Please consider our home for future Outer Banks Vacations.
Great vacation home!
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Mt Vernon. This home provides lots of space for a large family to enjoy...multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. A game room, swimming pool, and hot tub gave alternatives to the beach. We enjoyed many meals in the kitchen on the third floor, which contained many amenities including crock pot, toaster, 2 coffee pots (16 cup). The only thing we needed was a pitcher to make tea or lemonade. The owner was super to work with, very prompt in response to emails. Nearby, there is access to 2 grocery stores, restaurants., adventure golf, stores, farmers market, etc. The beach is quite spacious, only one block from the house. All accesses to this beach include several steps to cross over the sand dune, only an issue for those who have difficulty with steps. Beautiful beach views. We are definitely looking forward to coming back soon!!
Thanks so much for visiting Mt. Vernon for your Outer Banks Vacation. A pitcher will be waiting upon your return.
We have vacationed to the Mt Vernon
for many previous years with great success. We were able to rerun this year
and found it to be as enjoyable as we remembered. It has plenty of room, great access to beach and is close to shopping. We look forward to returning for many more years. Next year will be different as we become Grand Parents and the next generation will start experiencing OBX.
Congrats. Mt. Vernon will be happy to welcome the next generation.
