It is always summer on Anna Maria Island! We have one of the most pristine, un-crowded beaches you will ever visit. Enjoy a champagne breakfast, Duffy's burgers for lunch, or cocktails at sunset! In addition, there are many other fabulous things to do here - Busch Gardens, Universal Studios and Disney are all within a two-hour drive. World-class restaurants and shopping in Sarasota & St. Armand’s circle are just a short drive south, down to Longboat Key and Lido Key. If you are outdoorsy, the swimming, boating and fishing are unbeatable year-round!
Peacock Place, our 'big house' on Anna Maria Island is a sprawling old-Florida style home with 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and plenty of space. It is ideal for a large family or several couples. It is very close to the beach, with only one other house between it and our beautiful, un-crowded beach on the Gulf of Mexico. Anna Maria is less than an hour away from 3 major airports: Tampa (TPA), Sarasota (SRQ) and St. Petersburg-Clearwater (PIE). Just a short trip across the Intracoastal Waterway, AMI is easy to get to, and difficult to leave!
The house is ideal for a large family or several couples. It has been added onto here and there over the years, creating a pleasant haphazard of living spaces. The kitchen is bright and airy with ample room to cook for a crowd, and now has brand-new Italian ceramic floor tile. Just about every tool or appliance you could want is probably available. For outdoor cooking, there is also a gas grill, a small charcoal grill and a small smoker. The main living room is quite large with lots of comfy sofas and recliners. Many games, toys and puzzles, plus an extensive library of vintage books, are tucked into nooks, crannies and shelves all over. There are three dining tables in this room, and lots & lots of chairs! There is a new HD TV, extended digital cable, DVD, digital music player, satellite radio, and high-speed wireless internet.
On the east side of the house, there is a large screened porch. It is the ideal spot for sunrise and coffee, and great for sleeping when it is not too hot. The porch has another dining table too. In the old breezeway, there is a fun retro-style cocktail bar.
The master suite is surprisingly elegant. It is also quite large, with a brand-new, super-comfy king-sized bed, two dressers and a small armoire (contains TV). There is also a cozy sitting area with a corner fireplace. The master bath is spacious and cheery, with an exterior door that takes you straight to the beach, and a nearby outdoor shower.
The other two bedrooms each have a pair of twin beds--they can easily be pushed together to make a king bed. The small kids bedroom has two bunk beds. As well, there are two queen-sized sleeper sofas. There is also a second full bath with a large walk-in shower. The entire house has central air conditioning. Peacock Place can sleep 8 adults.
There is only one other house between this one and the beach. We have lots of beach toys and umbrellas. You can easily walk or bicycle to shopping and restaurants all over the island. There is also a free trolley that runs from north Anna Maria to south Longboat Key (the next island south) and a trolley stop just down the street from the house.
This house is entirely ground-level - there are no stairs. Peacock Place is also pet-friendly. It has a large yard (no fence). Dogs are not allowed on the beach or at newly-opened Neal and Perico Preserves, but they can swim at the boat ramp or on the Palma Sola causeway, just a short drive away. Dogs are also welcome at Robinson Preserve, but they must be on leash.
I’m Denise - wife, stepmother, aunt and grandmother who loves all things Florida, especially our big house on Anna Maria Island. Though I do have a real job, I would much prefer to be a full-time beach bum and spend as much time near or in the water as possible. There is no better place to enjoy this lifestyle than on Anna Maria Island, one of the few remaining barrier islands with little development and lots of old Florida appeal!
Denise M. V. Kanzler purchased this house in 1960
My maternal grandmother bought this house and its neighbor in the early 1960’s and both houses have remained in our family ever since. Many, many happy events – parties, reunions, weddings, honeymoons and celebrations – have occurred here over the years. We enjoy sharing our little piece of paradise with those who appreciate Anna Maria Island for its slow pace, laid-back ambience and quirky charm. Very little has changed in our neighborhood over the last 50 years and best of all, the beach, the Gulf and those unforgettable sunsets are only a short stroll away!
Everyone who has stayed at Peacock Place over the years appreciates the relaxed, spacious atmosphere of this rambling house. It has lots of good vibes!
A fabulous week at our own house! A good time was had by all, from ages 7 months to 89 years, plus 4 dogs. The outdoor shower is wonderful - thank you Chet and Sue. New coffee pot makes great coffee - thank you Kim. New super-fast wireless system rocks - thank you Andrew. New and repaired furniture is comfy and sturdy - thank you Dell and Doug. New beach cart holds tons of beach stuff - thank you Jim. New 46" HDTV is awesome - thank you everyone! It was both a productive and relaxing week and we had everything we needed, including all the baby furniture. Most of it is available for use by guests, except for when our own grandchildren are visiting. Additional suggestions are always appreciated, but we think our house has it all!
This was our first VRBO vacation and our first road trip with our greyhound. The house was perfect for us: quiet, well equipped, safe, clean and not so fancy that we could not relax. The kitchen was very well stocked-can't imagine anything you will not find there. The furnishings were comfortable/beach-house and the bed we used was huge and very comfortable. The house is surprisingly large. It was just the 3 of us but we wanted a screened in porch. It was a lovely place to eat many meals and fill up my sketchbook. Am so glad we splurged.
The house is a very short walk to the beach. The neighborhood was fun to walk the dog in. Basic shopping, banking, restaurants, hardware store and art galleries were walk-able but we did use our car to get many places including: Robinson Reserve, De Soto park, and Durante park. All were dog friendly. Also bridge street (Creperie), Pine Street and Mr. Bones.
The owner, Denise, was wonderful. She was there to help but totally relaxed. She made us feel so welcome, hope we can come back again and this time stay LONGER.. Dog looks at us wondering why we left..
The owner, Denise, was so thoughtful and caring even before we got there! She went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. The house came with anything you could think of for a beach week. The beach was only about a 2 minute walk and it was beautiful! I would highly recommend this house. It was affordable and was a great location and the owner is even better!
My friends and I really enjoyed our time here over spring break! The house is very nice, well furnished, an has plenty of room. Probably the best thing about this place is how close it is to the beach. It is only a 1minute walk from an amazing beach that isn't too crowded and has plenty to offer (volleyball, fishing, boating, etc.). Denise was great to work with and was extremely generous. I really wish we could all go back here again...but sadly 2015 was our last spring break as college students. Thanks so much for making it so great, Denise!
The house was fantastic. Extremely close to the beach and was so surprised with how much space there was. I can't wait to go back again.
Peacock Place is just a touch of paradise, Heaven on earth. Having enjoyed Anna Maria Island since we were kids, my husband and I are now able to share this special place with our kids and grandkids. It's like going back in time to a simpler period. However, there are also those important touches of the present, including internet access and cable TV. There is plenty of room for extended family to spread out comfortably. The sunsets are spectacular!
This is our third April at Peacock Place, we are B&B owners from the White Mountains of New Hampshire and this is our only time off each year. As ski season winds down and mud season arrives in the north country we pack the pick-up and head south for a much needed rest. The house has enough room for our daughters to come with their families to enjoy family time with grammie and grandpa and sometimes other friends too. We are so at home here that each year we try to give a little something back, this year was the out door shower enclosure, and a few other repairs, we hope you enjoy this additions.
We'll be back next year.
