Our white farmhouse (circa 1909) is nestled just outside Black Mountain near Ridgecrest Conference Center, Crestridge Girls' Camp, Catawba Falls, and Montreat College. Some of the regions best hiking trails are out our back door. Asheville and the Biltmore Estate are 15 minutes away. We are offering our small first-floor guest room and private bath for guests on the go! But before you hit the trail, enjoy a cup of coffee and a muffin on the front porch. While our home is small, rest assured of your privacy and safety. Our suite is upstairs where we enjoy our own privacy with white noise and tv.

About Beverly and Joe Kirkland
We are a professional couple who love hosting family, friends, and now guests on our unique property just minutes from Black Mountain. Joe, an administrator at Montreat College, swims 45 minutes every morning and after work and on weekends (when we're not traveling or doting on 11 grandchildren) works on the "treehouse" at the end of our gravel driveway. He's also an avid shell collector, which will hopefully find a home in said treehouse when it's finished! Bev, energized by her 100+ middle schoolers, spends lots of time reading and writing in preparation for her English classes, works out at the local gym, runs a 5K occasionally with her grandchildren, and does a lot of creative planning and puttering around the house. We love RVing out to the beach, traveling abroad, and hosting large groups of family and friends on our little postage stamp-sized piece of the world.
Beverly and Joe Kirkland purchased this House in 2007
Why Beverly and Joe Kirkland chose Black Mountain
We honeymooned in the Blue Ridge Mountains forever ago and returned for vacations many times. We were thrilled when one of our sons attended, graduated, and was employed by Montreat College--and got his dad a job there! Our daughter-in-law found the house for us--one of the oldest and most charming farmhouses in the area. We love small town living--no traffic to speak of, chatting with friends at the hardware store, knowing half the people at the local theater production, strolling through town and festivals like tourists. We are so blessed, so grateful and we want to share our blessings with our guests.
What makes this House unique
This little house is packed with personality. As you leave I-40 and head up a gentle hill, you'll see the house, almost exactly as it looked in 1909. Enter through a side entrance into the dining area furnished with antiques and family pieces. The private guest room and bath are straight ahead. When the hosts head upstairs, you'll have the downstairs to yourselves. Then head to the ship-shape kitchen with lots to look at--unique pantries, checkerboard pine floors, and a reclaimed wood island. Here you'll find snacks, bottled water, hot drinks, morning muffins. The screen porch is perfectly set for 3 season views of Rattlesnake Mtn. Because our home is so "cozy" and we have much family in and out, we limit stays to 3 days. It's perfect for travelers who need a place to land after a long day of hiking or sight-seeing.

Beautiful, Quiet, Charming, Wonderful Hosts
We enjoyed a lovely little stay here. Beverley and Joe were very welcoming. We enjoyed having breakfast in the mornings while chatting with Beverly. She makes the most delicious little muffins! Space was comfortable, clean, and perfect for a couple nights away in the mountains. We enjoyed the selection of teas and coffee as well. The shower in the bathroom was amazing. The house has so much charm and character. Sitting on the front porch in the evenings, listening to the rain in the trees was peaceful and a great way to wrap up our trip. We cannot wait to come again and visit. It felt like we were cherished guests in a family home.
Thank you to our wonderful hosts on helping us enjoy a truly perfect getaway.
Ha! Joe just said (as I read the review while he’s driving), “That sounds like a $75 room to me!” Thanks for your kind words, and please come again anytime. PS Take a look online at Outback Cabin for a family trip! PPS Thanks for locking up and letting us get out a little early.
