Casa de Serenidad is located on the tropical island paradise of Isla Mujeres, just a short ferry ride from Cancun, Mexico. This home is the ideal place for families or couples who love all that the island has to offer, and who want the comfort and spaciousness of their own private villa. Casa de Serenidad is located about halfway down the island on the Caribbean coastline. If you love the ocean, this is a fantastic chance to experience it. The ocean views from the patios are spectacular and just a few steps away, your private beach awaits you. A great place to play in the waves, shell, walk in the surf or try your hand at some shore fishing. Well known for it's mild ocean breezes, Casa de Serenidad offers you one of the most comfortable experiences on the island, even in the hottest of seasons. The first floor has a large palapa patio, with imported ceramic tile, natural grass roof and parasitic vine poles. The expansive deck is able to accommodate large groups with a variety of tables, chairs, loungers and hammocks. Whether it is dinner time or happy hour, time for some sun, or time to curl up with a good book, you will find the perfect place to lull away the hours.
The beautiful tiled deck extends into the open-air indoor living area which is equipped with sliding glass door panels that open completely to the outside to expand your living experience. For your viewing enjoyment, the living room is furnished with comfortable seating and a corner entertainment center equipped with a 32” HD flat screen TV and boom box radio compatible with your electronic music media. An additional bathroom is located on the lower level which is convenient for guests hanging out on the lower level or around the pool. The kitchen and bar feature hand-cut Tecul counter tops and is fully-equipped to handle everything from a blended margarita to a five course meal.
The spacious lower-level bedroom also features sliding glass panels that open to the outside. Beyond the glass panels is a terrace perfect for spending a little bit of private time. The bedrooms in the house accommodate 6 people comfortably with a king sized mattress in the first floor master and queen sized mattresses in the two second floor bedrooms. A twin airbed and Pac N Play is available for babies or small children. The finishing touch of the upstairs is a beautifully tiled palapa terrace with an amazing view of the Caribbean ocean. It is the perfect place to be if you love an early sunrise. During the day, it makes a great private tanning deck or, should you desire, set up an appointment with a local masseuse and enjoy an open-air massage. At night you can watch the moon rise over the water and see the ships pass by under the moon-lit starry skies. …and at the end of your day, you can pick your favorite place and let the sounds of the surf lull you into dreams of another perfect day in Paradise.

Bernadette and I met in 1979, married and settled into a small rural community west of Minneapolis where we enjoy the peace and tranquility of the nature around us. The early years did not afford much opportunity for travel but when our son left for college we decided to fulfill our desire to escape the cold and snow of Minnesota and travel to warmer climates. We traveled to many beautiful places over the past 10 years including the Florida Keys, Cabo San Lucas, Belize and many other areas of the Yucatan peninsula. . We first came to Isla Mujeres in the spring of 2003 where we fell in love with the beauty and simplicity of this paradise island. For those who appreciate all that the Caribbean has to offer, this island has it all. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, gorgeous sand beaches, ocean breezes, great food, snorkeling, fishing… the list goes on and on. Perhaps the greatest asset that the island has to offer is the people who live here. They are warm and friendly and eager to make your stay in paradise one that you will never forget. Come join us!
The Owner purchased this villa in 2006
We were thrilled to find a home located right on the water that has access to a sandy beach for a large part of the year. After extensive renovations, we have created a place that we are happy to call home
Location, location, location!!! We love being on the Caribe side where we have cooling breezes during the hottest of months. Opening the sliding doors gives you a living experience that can't be beat. From April to October we enjoy having an incredible beach right outside our door. An extra plus - the sea turtles love using that beach to lay their eggs. An extra special benefit is that we are on the edge of the colonia Meterologica where there are numerous restaurants with everything from inexpensive loncharias serving tasty Mexican fare to the well-known Mango's cafe and Monchi's just down the block. There is also a bakery and very nice convenience store right nearby. If you like walking, the beginning of the newly constructed ocean-front walkway starts just on the other side of the property where you can enjoy a 3/4 mile walk along the Caribe.
Casa Serenidad served as the perfect respite for my 50th birthday! My sweet hubby booked this beautiful casa for a 5 day birthday escape the week before Christmas. We had only traveled to Mexico one other time in 1988, so we were excited to visit again! We purchased direct flights with excellent departure times from Austin, and were passing through immigration 2.5 hours later. Bernadette had been so thorough and thoughtful in all of her email communication and suggestions so we knew exactly what to do once we arrived at the airport. The airport is lovely, and we were greeted with smiles by our shared shuttle driver.
The trip to Isla from Cancun was nice as well - we were able to see the big resorts and great shopping areas. The ferry ride over took about 15 minutes, and was a nice little boat cruise, with live music accompaniment. Once on Isla, the cab stand was right near the ferry dock. We were at Casa Serenidad 8 minutes later. The property managers were there to greet us, and quickly made us feel right at home. They provided suggestions and showed us a few things about the property, and as, promised we found every item to be easy to work and use. We've traveled all over the US and Europe and have never rented a property in such pristine condition with absolutely perfect ease of use of locks, key pads, tvs, internet, appliances, pool, etc. this made our vacation stress free! There was even welcome cerveza and chips upon our arrival.I can't say enough about the house and location itself. It's literally on the edge of the azure Caribbean with a beautiful little tidal patch of sand below. I found many small pieces of beach glass and shells each day, of the 75-80 degree sunny weather. We saw a fisherman throw his cast net each morning after sunrise which the house faces. The rest of the days we spent at the lovely tables and chaise lounge chairs around the porches and pool, or In the hammock! The little B and B next door is lovely and quiet. We wandered over for beer and Piña Colada one day before sunset- great place! We taxied and walked into town each day as well, stopping either at Mangos or De Luisa for breakfast. Dinner was great at both Rinaldi's and Casa de Los Suenos, as well as De Luisa and downtown.Shopping in town was fun, as many of the vendors and shop owners have local wares and handmade items to purchase. The book in the house suggests many local shops and venues to visit. Our overall recommendation, a 10 on a 10 point scale!!
Casa de Serenidad is the perfect island home! We spent 5 nights at this lovely home and it was not long enough. The house is comfortable and is even more impressive than the photos. We opened the large door/windows every morning to let the ocean breeze in and closed them at night and used the bedroom air conditioners. We spent most of our time outside enjoying the spectacular ocean view from the pool, lounge chairs or hammock. An added bonus is the small sandy beach just below the house that you can walk down to and swim or find shells. The house is located mid-island, away from the hustle of downtown and on the windy side (eastern) which keeps away the bugs. You can walk to several local cafes (Mango Cafe or Bahama Mama) or even walk out the back door to Villa Bella next door for a Cadillac Margarita! Taxis are plentiful and cheap, but most people get a golf cart to get around the island. If you reserve ahead of time you can get it delivered to the house when you arrive. I cannot say enough good things about your hosts Berna and Phil. The communication with them was thorough and always quick to answer any question we had before our trip. The house information they send when you book the house is the most detailed of anyplace I have ever rented. Berna was quick to answer emails and questions. They have local property managers that can help with anything you need once you are there. I highly recommend this house. I just hope too many people don't get the same idea..... we will be back!
What a beautiful and serene home! Really lives up to it's name! Booking was easy and once we arrived we were blown away. My family has traveled to Isla more than 20 times and this was by far our favorite trip! The semi-private beach is amazing for treasure hunting and swimming. It was so cool to watch the local spear fishermen come down in the morning. Easy walking distance to 2 of the best restaurants on the island Bahama Mama
(Cilantro Mojitos!) and Mangos ( Fish Tacos!). You can also walk to 2 tiendas, ice cream shop and a coconut stand. The sound of the surf and beauty of the patio led some of us to sleep outside most nights. Most places I've stayed had a trickle in the shower for water pressure but this house had amazing showers. Highly recommended and I hope we get to return some day - soon!
I believe with any business, it says a lot when you have return customers. Casa de Serenidad is no exception. Like a fine restaurant, consistency is what keeps customers returning. See our review from February of 2015. Not only was it what we expected from our previous visit, but they have made some beautiful additions, i.e. a new palapa car port (golf cart), additional furniture on the upstairs sun deck, new grill & grilling station, I-pad/TV entertainment setup.
Thank you Phil & Berna for going above and beyond in making your guests stay a memory they will never forget I know we won't!

So much meaningful thought was put into every nook and cranny of this home. I know that the spacious flow of the home and giant window/sliding doors were not placed by someone who didn't want everything to be absolutely perfect and settled for nothing less. From the moment we arrived after a long days travel and to greeted by a very clean, warm, paradise, I have found myself awestruck. Beers, chips, and salsa were all waiting for us upon our arrival. The hammocks hung outside provided immediate and continued peace and zen.
I am so glad to be on the windy side of Isla for many reasons. There were no bugs like there are around the lagoon, the breeze is always refreshing and you can close up the large windows yet still have the most spectacular cliffside views of your life looking at endless ocean and fishing boats rather than construction of skyscrapers looking at cancun. Its proximity to a full bar with amazing cocktails right out the back door in less steps then it is to go upstairs is just the most unreal and pleasant experience.
I slept in the upstairs bedroom facing the ocean and at sunrise I lifted my head six inches to just catch the sun come up over the horizon naturally and seeing my first sunrise on the ocean was more than bliss. I also enjoyed giving the hammock in the bedroom a try and this is just one of the many examples of someone who just knew what everyone would enjoy and planned every detail of this luxury home.
Being away from the downtown area is highly recommended because you can always go to the beach and go downtown but if you stay down there you can't escape it. The true shops and connivence stores and heart of the island people are found in the neighborhoods surrounding the house. The local fish market tucked away, bakery, restaurants make this the place to really find serenity.
In reading some of the other reviews of anyone who would put less than five stars let me clarify some things. You get to be on a cliff overlooking the ocean and have a beach you can easily climb down to. Take the golf cart and go swimming at the big sandy beaches where everyone goes to swim but don't loose sight of the fact you are next to the big waves that crash up against the beautiful rocks, steep banks and gorgeous cliffs. If you do go out into the water just bring water shoes and don't go to far. Ants only come out if you left food out they're really not a problem just clean up.
Your home is my new happy place:)
Spent a week chilling out in the warm ocean breezes of Casa de Serenidad. As others mentioned, location is fantastic, close to everything you need and great local spots within walking distance to go out for meals or pick up and bring back. The view of the ocean is amazing and the surroundings & hammock super comfortable and placed perfectly for lounging around and reading. In the evenings we enjoyed catching up on some tv series and movies sitting in the open air living room. This vacation home is clean, well maintained and provided everything we needed to relax and enjoy our time away.
What a beautiful home and were we lucky to have found it. It is located in the perfect location where it is easy to get to either side of the island with ease. We go to Isla Mujeres every year and have always stayed at a hotel. I am already planning in my head when to come back next year and will definitely stay at Casa de Serenidad, no more hotels for us. We took our 2 children (in their mid 20's). So much room and they had the whole upstairs to themselves. We could of easily had 6 to 8 people here.
The view is gorgeous, the location the best and the house is just beautiful and so open to view the ocean and pool. The house is full of anything you may need from pool toys, binoculars and even a first aid kit (which we needed, Never feed Iguana's as my husband learned the hard way).
The staff was wonderful when they met us and explained everything. Had a small issue and could not believe how quick they were to respond.
Also last year we stayed at a hotel with my father who is in a wheel chair. Wish I would of stayed here. Could of wheeled him right into the house, kitchen, bathroom, living room, outdoors. Best handi-cap place ever.
I would highly recommend Casa de Serenidad to all.
It just doesn't get better than this!
