Stayed two weeks, and loved it. Cheryl and Mike were gracious hosts, and are wonderful people.
The house is very private, and quite unique.
The kitchen was well appointed, and open to the rest of the home.
The property is amazing and close to a beautiful beach.
Hope to return.
We stayed here for 2 weeks and were very happy with the accommodations, privacy and proximity to the beach. The property owners are lovely and were available when we needed them, but were never invasive of our privacy. The grounds are beautiful, tranquil and secluded and the cabin is thoughtfully designed with a unique Bali-nese flair. We loved it and highly recommend it!
Great place to stay for a few days. Easy walk to a quiet beach. Mike let me borrow a surf board and bogie board, and was very helpful.
A nice secluded retreat on the North end of the island. We stayed at the Sheraton on the south end for the last few days of our trip, but had more fun on the North shore.
I would recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle if visiting in the rainy season as the red dirt roads get slick. The place has a propane grill which worked great. There is no AC, but plenty of fans in the house to keep you cool at night.
Easy access to Princeville for grocery stores and dining. There is also an awesome fruit stand/coffee place at the turn off from main road. Make sure you try the acai bowl!
Overall we enjoyed our stay in Kauai. This was our 3rd visit to the islands. We really enjoyed the full kitchen and blender/ ice maker! We appreciated the fruit the owners gave us.
After a long flight, we initially discovered we were sent the wrong rental directions to get to the cottage and had to wait to find someone to help us. There are 2 rentals (houses) on the property.
Mainly, we hoped for more privacy as it was listed as something for honeymooners (Honeymoon Haven). Most days we stayed (out of 7) there were workers around the cottage or property.. sometimes walking right by the windows! To us, this really took the feeling of privacy away when we would wake up to hear vehicles and workers next to the bedroom/bathroom windows.
The cottage tends to get quite hot even with fans so shutting blinds was even more toasty. Also, the towels provided in the bathroom smelt like they hadn't dried out enough so we didn't use those. We washed clothes @ the laundromat, clothes don't dry hanging out. There also is no door on the only bathroom, so be prepared to excuse your significant other from the bedroom when you want bathroom privacy. Additionally, we tried using the bicycles and both had flat tires.
Down a twisty road and over a bridge you come to a secluded dwelling. The cottage is rustic and inviting. Inside is very spacious with pristine decorations. As you go from room to room you feel you are in a far away land, like something out of the adventures of Marco Polo.
Cheryl was great. She accommodated us a few hours early as we had nowhere to keep our luggage. The place came with all the amenities anyone could want - a full kitchen, giant fridge with an ice maker, a coffee maker, etc. The grounds that the cottage is one are vast and Cheryl invited us to use her pool. But the beach, a nearly empty beach, was just around the corner. Renting a car to get around Kauai is a must. That way you are not missing out on groceries, restaurants, beaches, and hikes.
Overall this was an awesome place to stay to explore the North Side of the island!
We stayed for two weeks. It was our second stay in two years.
It offers you a real sense of living on Kauai. Better then a condo or hotel, for sure. It rained every day but two. It a 'nice rain' that doesn't last all day.
Remote location. No close neighbors.
10 minute walk to a virtually empty beach. Drive there. Few places to park, but we had no problem.
Beautiful, quiet grounds.
Cheryl and Mike are very accommodating.
Would be better with a full kitchen
Remote location. Not close to any shopping which is about a 20 minutes car ride. You can only walk to the beach (which ain't bad).
No washer/dryer. Use the sink.
Load up groceries at Safeway on your way from the airport or you'll be driving to Foodland in Princeville everyday. And that gets old fast.
Leave your Hawaiian shirts, shoes, long pants at home. You won't wear any of it. Cook on the outside grill. Because of high prices, we suggest chicken, scrimp, perhaps pork. Stay away from Steaks, processed food, diary products. They are all priced too high. We spent about $300 on food for the 2 of us.
Bring bug spray!
Dining out: Drink your cocktails at home if you don't want to spend $10++ for a drink. My average 'eating out' bill was always $100+ for dinner, and about $50 for lunch (nice places). The St Regis hotel in Princeville will set you back over $200++ for 2 (we had 50% off, so not so bad).
Use the farmer's market in Hanalai.
