About Nancy Loomis

We came from south Florida for a vacation here and never left.

We love it here.

Both of us are in Hospitality, so you know you are getting good service.

Nancy Loomis purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Nancy Loomis chose North Georgia Mountains

WE loved the river.

We go in it everyday in the summer and sit by it when water is too cold.

What makes this cabin unique

We are in a quiet area of the river, do not have people going down it all day yelling like in Helen.

So you can enjoy the sounds and wildlife.

Peaceful, tranquil and beautiful. This is the place you can take a long nap on the porch and enjoy the sounds of nature. Or, if you want to go tubing, canoeing or fishing, it''s all there! The cottage is absolutely beautiful! This is the kind of place you dream about. We are looking forward to going back, and staying longer next time!( even saw a bear during there stay!, which is now named Marshmellow)

I have to say we absolutely loved this cabin, it was way beyond our expectations as the pictures just dont do it justice! (and we are VERY picky) The porches were awesome and huge with lots of comfortable sitting areas where we spent literally hours and hours hanging out in the fresh air and talking. My husband loved the fishing and we made a fire in the fire pit and made smores in the evenings after dinner! The beds are amazingly comfortable (which is rare for us to find) and we slept like babies after all that fresh mountain air! Helen was a hop-skip and a jump away, so we were surpised how peaceful and secluded the property was. Truly a pleasure and we can''t wait to go back for another trip! Thank you Nancy for your wonderful hospitatlity and your truly amazing cabin! -Cheryl, Scott, Stephanie and Kevin! Cheryl had written to me (Nancy) in an e-mail the following: We absolutely loved the cabin...it was way beyond my expectations and it was immaculate! The porches were amazing and I loved all your decorator touches and the details

Nana's cottage

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed in the cottage over the July 4th weekend. We had a great time, it is in a perfect location. We were able to tube right out of our back door. The guys fished with the kids as well. It was not crowded, we were able to tube with the smaller kids without any problems. She has everything you need there, just bring food. We Were planning on going into Helen for fireworks, but were enjoying ourselves so much, we opted not too.

The house and property was beautiful. We enjoyed the tubing and had the river all to ourselves. The owners made sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to make our trip exactly what we were looking for. We definetly hope to stay there again.

Great place

  • 5 of 5

We spent 5 nights in The Garden Cottage during the second week of April and we were very pleased with the accommodations and amenities. Our party consisted of 5 adults, me, my husband, daughter, son-in-law and son, plus our two dogs. The cottage is adorable, decorated in a light cheerful style. It was clean and I loved the fact that it is pet friendly yet you would never know dogs had been there. It has 2 large porches (a great place to start your day with a cup of coffee) and the screened porch has a nice hot tub to relax in.

The backyard was great. It is large, flat, very private and close to the river. The guys enjoyed the fire pit right behind the cottage and my son and son-in-law took advantage of the kayaks provided(also right behind the cottage). There is a nice porch swing and a platform with a slide and steps on the river.

Our only disappointment was that the river was too fast and too deep right behind the cottage for us to fly fish in our waders so we couldn't take full advantage of being on the water. We did however go fishing at Blackhawk fly fishing, which was only about 30 minutes away. All in all, we would definitely recommend Nana's Cottage's Garden Cottage. Nancy and Robert were very friendly and accommodating and we hope to visit again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. As a note these guests were the ones right after that recent bad review which was unfounded... Sorry you couldn't wade. The river has been about a 1' to 1'-1/2 deeper than normal, and faster because of rain. And yes it is always a little deeper behind this cottage. But not sure if you knew that you could also fish all along our property up stream which would have been good for waders even during your stay. Normally people can wade from one end of our property to our home. So sorry this wasn't available during your stay. We truly hope you come back and stay with us again and maybe the river gods will corporate with the water levels.. lol Nancy

Cute and country

  • 2 of 5

The house is clean and has very nice decor; a cute French country feel to it. Probably good for about 4 people. More than that and it would be a bit cramped. Something that wasn't clear to me when I booked was that the amenities are actually located three doors down from the house in the landlord's backyard. I prefer less interaction, so I found it a bit uncomfortable. Also they have lots of information about the kayaks, rules, replacement fees, etc. I think there were three separate papers regarding it. Problem is, it's not clear that the kayaks you aren't allowed to use are in their backyard. Since you're in their yard for most of the trip, there's a fuzzy line about what you can do and what just feels like trespassing. I lost one of their paddles, for which I expected a fee. I left my personal paddle at the site to replace it anyway, figuring since mine were fairly new it was fair. It was hard for me because I was really attached to that paddle. They ended up charging me more than double the stated fee because they said the paddle was more expensive than the paddles they expected me to use. Considering the kayaks and paddles were in the vacationing area, and they were not roped off, nor was there a sign or any information that we were not to use those specific kayaks but instead some other specific kayaks, I find that it's unfair for them to charge me more than the paper I signed... plus I'm out a paddle for no reason.

Owner's Response: This review is untrue, please do not base your opinion on this one & read the many other reviews I feel this review was based on the fact that they did not read the info on our cottage & had to pay for the lost paddle & were not happy about it. 1)The home is 1600 sq. ft, sleeps 7 it is a normal sized 2 bedroom home with 2 huge porches, & easily holds 6 persons. 2) Amenities are NOT 3 doors down, only the rope swing. So not sure why they were in my yard all time? The info is written on the site. Everything else is in the backyard of the cottage, 4 kayaks, grill, swing by river, fire pit, picnic table, hot tub, horseshoe pit, and slide, (which was off to protect children from hypothermia as water was too cold during visit) The ONLY REASON they were in our backyard, was as a favor, I told them they could fish there. 3) What he says about the paddle he left is untrue. The paddle they left is not a kayak paddle, but a cheap blow up raft paddle. I told them I'd be glad to meet them 23 minutes from their home, (a 2+ hour drive for me), so they can have it back, they said "never mind not worth it"? So I guess he didn't have a hard time parting with it after all, as stated in his review! My opinion it wasn't worth the gas or time to pick it up. 4) The charge for replacing my kayak paddle was $55 it was a $95 paddle and the charge listed on renters release for a lost paddle is $65 for a lost paddle, (although we usually don't charge that much as we can find them cheaper) so it was LESS than what they should have paid. TO SUM IT UP:: Every once in a while you get people that don't use common sense; unfortunately these renters were one of them. My neighbor had to rescue them as they took one of our personal white water kayaks out with out a skirt, (a big no no), & didn't use the 4 regular kayaks we provided them, that are easy to use, in their backyard. They sunk the white water kayak in a bad current & they lost one of my good paddles. My friend, who is 78, had to go in the river to rescue the kayak & get it out for them as they didn't have a clue what they were doing. This time of the year the water is about 48-50 degrees & I told them that I didn't recommend them using kayaks & if they did to go upstream & then float back to cottage. Instead they went to my home used our kayaks as they thought the beach would be a good place to fish & somehow went downstream, (the current is not bad to go across there, so not sure what happened) and sunk a kayak!

Great place to get away!

  • 4 of 5

It was too cold this time of year to enjoy the kayaks, the slide or the rope swing so we are making plans for next year! It was a comfortable place to stay with tons of large screened-in deck space. If you like being outside this is a great spot.

Thanks for the puzzles and games - I had forgotten to bring anything like that and we enjoyed playing cards etc.

I would definitely recommend this spot to others.
