Tried and true lovers of the Northwest. We built the house as a personal vacation property not knowing our jobs would take us out of state. We now live in Seal Beach CA. We love boating, camping, hiking, seafood, friends and family. We live vicariously through the comments our guests leave behind. We feel blessed to own this fabulous house and are happy to share it with you.
David Afflerbach purchased this house in 1996
David's family heritage is based in Port Townsend where his mother grew up. This waterfront property was homesteaded by the family over 100 years ago there are 8 homes all along the beachfront all owned by members of the family. This property has a warmth about it. Once you walk through the front door and look out the expansive windows to the world beyond, you too will feel it.
Fully equipped rental. We pride ourselves on making our guests feel comfortable and at home.
David and Kim,
We just wanted to thank you for sharing your wonderful place. Our family had a great vacation there. The view is amazing and as my mom would have said "Good for the Soul". I was so appreciative of how clean and well stocked your place was. It really felt like home for a week. The area was beautiful and we enjoyed it all. One last thing we love to play family games and were so excited you had some of our favorites. Thank you..
We just had the best time, there was something for everyone from my 60+mother in law, who loved sitting in the glider watching the tides roll in by the big windows, to my young nephew who played badminton with us on the lawn just by the beach. We all loved watching the bald eagles, sea otters, sea ducks and deer all from the wrap around deck. This was such a relaxing place to stay. The home itself felt like a home, everything you might need is there. I could tell the owners stay there sometimes as well, because it felt cared for. I would definitely stay again.
What a delight to watch the water throughout the day as the light changed. We loved the living room windows and the deck. Oak Bay Getaway is very close to a grocery store, and an easy drive to Port Townsend. Be advised that the master bedroom is a loft-no privacy. This home is a calm and peaceful retreat. We're ready to book it again!
If you are looking for a small piece of heaven on earth then you're investigating the right property for your vacation, weekend, or retreat away. The minute we unlocked the door the house made us feel welcome and beckoned us further inside. All 5 of us in our 60's were like little kids running from room-to-room to claim the one we wanted as our own! All rooms were immaculate; not a piece of dust was out of place! The amenities were probably the best equipped home we've ever stayed in for a rental property. The open concept feel of the home with its towering windows overlooking the sound made the sights and sounds of the exterior feel very much an integral part of the interior of this lovely home. Osprey, bald eagles, and sea gulls swooped and swirled in thermals above throughout our stay. Ships and fishing boats were visible throughout the day.
Five sisters-in-law on an annual retreat could not have had a better place to call "home base." Although the wind whipped us sideways and the rain pelted down as we walked along the shore outside the front of the home, we continued to walk, look for treasures, and take in the awesome scenery all around us. The home is situated close to Port Ludlow and Port Townsend, making it a wonderful starting point for several Olympic Peninsula destinations. We took in several sites in town, had wonderful meals along Water and Washington Streets in Port Townsend and enjoyed meeting many people in town.
Owners David and Kim were most helpful and answered every question we had in almost record time. David called our first day to make sure everything was as we expected and wanted to know if we had questions. He closed that first conversation with, "If you need anything or have further questions, don't hesitate to call. Oh, and enjoy your stay!" David and Kim, we did, 100%. We'll definitely be back again for another Sisters-in-Law retreat.

Thank you David for welcoming us to your place. It's lovely...well-appointed, clean, great location, beautiful sunrises. The Port Hadlock area seemed like a great place to be. The people were kind and helpful and the restaurants were excellent. All the things we needed (grocery store, etc.) were a stone's throw away. We also did a few excursions that were great fun: Port Townsend, Hurricane Ridge, and the Olympic Game Farm which was a hoot. We hope to come back again sometime, perhaps with some relatives or friends. Thank you again for everything.
We had a great stay at this lovely property on a rainy and then sunny February weekend. The house is warm and cozy, the beds comfortable, and the kitchen well stocked. The location is great. It's about 20 minutes from Port Townsend, right on a nice beach (with great views of the water from the house). Check out the Port Townsend Aero Museum very nearby at the Jefferson County Airport.
We really enjoyed our stay. The house is close to amenities but still feels secluded and quiet. It is very nice and well maintained. The loft bedroom was exceptional with a lovely view, and the kitchen well appointed.
The area is well know for its gourmet foods and has some of the finest cheese and producers farms in the state. Excellent small chef run restaurants and local markets are all within easy reach of the house. Both Finn River Cidery and Mt. Townsend Creamyery have tasting rooms a short drive a way.
Located on the fabulous Olympic Peninsula with all kinds of outdoor activities, hiking, mountaineering, kayaking, boating, beach combing the pacific beaches, crabbing, fishing, clamming, golfing etc... Historical Port Townsend is a short drive with all it's arts and crafts shopping, antiques, restaurants and boating.
