Skiing information: We are located approx. 5 miles from Nubs Nob & Boyne Highlands ski resorts. Both resorts offer Down hill and Cross country skiing, snow boarding and snow shoeing trails. Chestnut Valley has night Cross Country skiing trails that connect to Nubs Nob trails.
Golf information: There are too many Golf courses to list them all! Boyne Highlands, Chestnut valley, Springbrook, Little Traverse Bay Golf course, Harbor Point (semi-private), Birchwood the list goes on and on!
Christmas season: Thanksgiving weekend is when the Christmas tree is set up downtown. Santa arrives in the afternoon for the children. In the evening here is a tree lighting ceremony where everyone sings Christmas carols before they light the tree! You have to attend on of these! It's like a Norman Rockwell painting!
December hosts the Annual Christmas Open houses. Harbor Springs is on the 1st Wednesday of December while Petoskey holds theirs the 1st Friday of December. This is when the stores downtown are open from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and offer seasonal goodies and drinks! This is a beautiful time to be here! Small town festivities!
My husband Abe & I have 2 beautiful daughters! Amelia and Grace! We currently live just around the bay in Charlevoix, MI. We like to come to Harbor Springs for the 4th of July, Christmas Tree lighting ceremony and the Annual Christmas Open House.
Linda or Abe Thiessen purchased this house in 1987
My Grandpa built this house back in the 50's. It's been in the family the whole time. I bought this house when I was 20 years old. When I had to move to Charlevoix for work, I didn't want to sell the house. We decided to turn it into a vacation rental. We don't have a lot of money. We are not trying to 'make' money off of it. We just need it to pay for itself in order to keep it! We like to keep the price down so EVERYONE can enjoy Harbor Springs! Although Harbor Springs is considered a destination for the wealthy, we'd like to keep it affordable so average people can vacation too! Our house is nothing 'fancy'! Keep that in mind as you drive past all the big, fancy houses on Main Street!
One of the main 'unique benefits' or our house is, WE ALLOW ANIMALS! However, our location is everything! Our house is located just 2 blocks from down town. Located behind the Holy Childhood Church, you can faintly hear the church bells in the morning! Close enough to town to walk to dinner, church and the beach. Yet far enough out to be quiet and relaxing!
My wife, 15-month-old daughter and pug thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Harbor Springs. The house is perfect for a small family, with everything you need for a vacation. A short walk or bike ride away is downtown Harbor Springs with wonderful shops, restaurants, beach, etc.
The home is very clean, with laundry, dishwasher, microwave, etc. to really make it feel like your home away from home. Linda was also extremely helpul! We plan on staying there again in the future!
All we can say is great things about Abe & Linda's place, very homey, clean, felt right at home!
Kitchen has all cooking necessities, beds were comfortable, fire pit was a nice place to make our hobo sandwiches.
One of our main places to see when coming to Harbor Springs was to drive through the Tunnel of Trees, which we enjoyed and stopping on the way at Good Hart for bakery goods and T shirts.
Enjoyed a walk into town, only couple blocks from cottage.
We had a couple days of rain, messing up our plans, we asked to stay another night and they were more then accommodating! Thanks again!
We will definitely keep this place in our favorites for another vac, and will recommend this place to friends and family.
Abe and Linda have an adorable gem in the heart of Harbor Springs. Clean, cozy, everything you need! My only suggestion is that the listing says there is room for 5 when it is actually only 4. It was no problem and we borrowed pillows and blankets from beds and my son slept on the couch. I think there used to be a pull out couch that has been replaced. It was in no way an inconvenience, and there was plenty of towels and room for the 5 of us.
I love that the master was in the back of the cottage on the other bedroom in the front. It gave us plenty of space to relax and not be on top of each other.
Everything was modern and recently updated. It was cold and snowy when we visited and the cottage was plenty warm. Coffee was a nice touch.
We loved our quick time in Harbor Springs. Highly recommend this property.
What a great place to stay! Linda is easy to communicate with during the booking process and can be contacted for questions during your stay if necessary. The cottage is clean and cozy. We found it to be a perfect location. All the conveniences of home are in the cottage incl dishwasher and microwave as well as a washer and dryer. We cooked several meals out on the gas grill, had a fire in the fire pit to roast marshmallows, took strolls through the neighborhood which is lovely AND very quiet! We saw deer every day. During our week we had a gambit of weather from a lovely sunny nearly 70 day to a thunderstorm as well as a snowstorm! We drove twice through the Tunnel of Trees (tried to eat at Legs Inn but was a 90 minute wait ea time we stopped), drove to Mackinaw City, drove to Traverse City for the wine trails, searched several beaches (once as it started to sleet!) for Petoskey stones, walked around Charlevoix to see Earl Young's "mushroom houses", visited two local wineries, ate at the Polish Kitchen. The beds are comfy, the showers hot, the internet speedy AND we got to bring our Golden with us. Can't ask for more than that! Had a great time and hope very much to return. Thanks Linda!
Second Home is such a cosy cottage in Harbor Springs with all the comforts of home. It was great that it was walking distance to shopping and the beach. Loved that it backed on to the woods, so peaceful. Everyone in Harbor Springs were so friendly. Linda was readily available to answer any questions and to provide recommendations. We really enjoyed the drive through the Tunnel of Trees, perfect for avid cyclists, too. and Legs Inn is must see with great food. I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to visit northern michigan.
I've stayed at this great gem three times now and love it. Great location that is only a short walk downtown or to the water. Very close to many things to do for all ages.
I'll be back soon!
Summer in Harbor is absolutely beautiful and offers a variety of golf courses, fishing, boating, shopping, dinning even a sk8 park! You can ride your bike from Harbor Springs to Charlevoix on the paved bike path that hugs the Lake Michigan coast! Winter in Harbor offers GREAT downhill and cross country skiing, snowmobile trails, snow-shoeing, sledding and ice skating. Don't miss the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony, the Christmas 'Open House' on the 1st Wednesday of December!
Other Activities: Winter-down hill & cross country skiing, snow-shoeing, snowmobiling, sledding, ice skating, ice fishing. Tree lighting ceremony & Christmas open house
