Truckee House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Nestled in the trees on the top of Ski Slope, our stunning log home sits on two acres, giving it a parklike setting with privacy and elegance. Designed to evoke the feel of your own private lodge, exquisite attention was given to craftsmanship, finishes and decor. Each log was lovingly hand picked in Montana. A large bank of windows brings the outdoors in no matter the season. The spacious great room with its stone fireplace is the perfect spot to track winter snowdrifts or watch deer and birds.

Two professional bakers designed the kitchen. With prep and kitchen sinks, large Viking range and indoor grill, it is easy to prepare an intimate dinner for two or a family Thanksgiving feast. The spacious open floor plan easily meets the needs of a busy family.

Designed for ease of living, there are three bedrooms: one bedroom (queen-size bed) and bathroom on the main floor for those who prefer not to use stairs. Upstairs are the master bedroom (queen-size bed), and the 3rd bedroom (full-size bed). The loft, with two twin-size daybeds, provides perfect away space for reading or watching a movie. A mudroom minimizes after ski hassles, and forced air heating warms the house quickly - there is a lovely woodburning fireplace to further enhance the lodge-feeling.

In summer you'll find golf courses, tennis courts, a full equestrian center, swimming pools, archery, a recreation center with a fully equipped work-out facility, hot tubs and sauna, recreation events, day camps, spectacular biking and hiking (ask me about great hikes organized by the Tahoe Donner Hiking Club!),and of course access to the Donner Lake Private Beach and Marina with all its water activities for endless terrific family fun, plus year around heated outdoor pools, spas and sauna, great rock climbing and much more.

Check Tahoe Donner's website for more information.

Truckee has premium shopping and outlet stores.

Reno's international airport is only 30 minutes away. If you have a private plane you can fly into Truckee Airport.

In winter ski in/ski out from the back of our property to the Tahoe Donner Ski Resort! And a mere 20-30 minutes away are the world class downhill and cross country ski resorts of Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Northstar, Sugar Bowl and Royal Gorge to name just a few. Minutes away are the Tahoe Donner Ski Resort, Cross Country area, downhill sledding and ice skating rink. And you will appreciate the level driveway to get to the house!

No shortage of things to do to be sure. But if what you want to do is to do nothing at all, then we invite you to our home. Its tranquil beauty is guaranteed to hold you captive making it difficult to ever think of leaving!

On a final note, this home was a labor of love. We trust that those who rent it will keep this in mind and will treat it well. It sleeps six to eight people comfortably. It is not a home for large parties or groups. Kids/teenagers must be accompanied by adults.

Keywords: Tahoe Donner, stunning log house in a private setting on two acres backing up to the Tahoe Donner Ski Area. Ski in, Ski out - come home for lunch!

About Woutje Swets

This house was love at first sight for us. We love the starry nights, the snow topped trees, the huge logs that were used to make the house - it just fits like a glove any time of the year!

Why Woutje Swets chose Lake Tahoe North Shore

Summers are fabulous! There are endless water sports, a private beach and marina at Donner lake, biking and hiking, tennis, golf, horseback riding, archery - we love it all!

And we love the winter! We go skiing at Squaw, Northstar, Alpine, Sugar Bowl, and Tahoe Donner (just to name a few resorts). And then there is Royal Gorge and Tahoe Donner itself for great cross country skiing or snow shoeing. Plus ice skating in Truckee, Northstar and Squaw Valley, and we go snowshoeing right by our house!

What makes this house unique

The house is very private. It sits on almost two acres and backs up to the Open Space that is the Tahoe Donne Ski Resort so we can ski in and ski out. The Tahoe Donner recreation facilities are fabulous with swimming pools, a gym, restaurants, a private beach at Donner Lake, a wonderful golf course, horseback riding, nice restaurants in old town Truckee, or we drive over the border to Nevada to check out the Casinos. So much to do, but also so wonderful to stay home and cook up fabulous meals in the kitchen designed by two professional bakers!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time. Your home is so beautiful!

My sisters say that you designed the house yourself. I recently did a significant remodel, but have not decorated yet. Where do you find all of the individual rustic pieces?

Also, I really enjoyed looking at the detail of the different beams in the house. The beam that divides the family from the dining area is so captivating!

I hope we can come again!

Would like to return

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful reunion at this "homey" "cabin". It was the perfect place to bring young children. My husband hiked twice a day. Our daughter said it was the best run she's had on the trail nearby. The beds were so comfortable. The kitchen was the most well appointed one that I've ever seen in a rental. I can envision renting this home during any season. It's perfect.

Gorgeous and Immaculate Home

  • 5 of 5

This home is absolutely breathtaking. Every detail is perfect. The kitchen is stunning and fully stocked and would be great for people who love to cook. The beds were comfortable, everything was perfectly clean. The setting was beautiful. A group of 5 women stayed for one night, in summer and it was perfect because we just wanted to hang out and didn't want to go anywhere. The house was quiet and it was fun to sit on the deck and talk. I would definitely return here, and would love to see it in the winter!

One note you should know before booking is that there is hardly any cell service. Our party had Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon and we were unable to call or text, except for a minute here or there we'd get 1 bar on extended service. The wifi is shared with other homes, so there is no streaming and the wifi is slow and mostly unusable (at least it was when we were there). This was not a problem for us, and it is told to you ahead of time in the documents the owner sends, but just know before you rent that this is not the place for a business retreat where you need internet access.

Overall, I cannot wait to return to her home!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your wonderful review! I am so glad that you love the house, and I hope you will return again soon. T-Mobile just finished building a cell tower at the top of the ski area and we heard that ATT and Verizon will join that tower in the near future. Meanwhile, we include in the information about our house that cell phones should be forwarded to the house phone so that there is no interruption for receiving and calling.

Wonderful home, amazing location, super family fun!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely 3 nights at Woutje's home in Tahoe Donner. The house is lovely, very well appointed for cooking, and spacious and comfortable for relaxing. The space is also kid-friendly and our children had a great time both inside and outside. Our favorite part of the trip was being able to sled right out the back door to the Tahoe Donner ski resort. We had tons of fun on the slopes even though the ski resort was closed for the season. We used the guest passes to enjoy the pool and spa at the nearby rec center, and we also rode bikes down in the Crystal Bay area along Lake Tahoe. Each night we had a lovely fire. We would love to come back again!

Exquisitely crafted, beautifully appointed; exceptionally responsive owner

  • 5 of 5

My group of 8 stayed here overnight during our mid-February trip to Northstar. We found this authentic log cabin to be exquisitely crafted and beautifully appointed, and Woutje's responsiveness and attention to detail was exceptional. We all enjoyed our stay here, and would certainly love to return on future trips to come.

Beautiful Slopeside, Cabin Home - Awesome Kitchen!!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this cabin home! The interior and exterior of the home are incredibly beautiful and perfectly suited to the surrounding mountain. It is a quick ski out to the groom slopes and the hill steps outside the front door is amazing for sledding. The kitchen is a chef's paradise with an awesome viking range, stunning copper sinks and the most well stocked set of tools and pantry I've ever encountered in a rental home. The variety of games, books and movies available for our use was also comforting - we forgot to bring Jenga, our traditional game on mountain vacations, and sure enough there was a version on the shelf. The garage and mudroom are roomy and convenient as well. The cabin has an openness and allows visitors to bask in the light from every corner of every room. I am looking forward to staying here again next year!

Charming log cabin

  • 5 of 5

I loved the stay at house. I came with my friends from work and we went skiing in Squaw/Alpine. Within about 10-15 minutes there was a large Safeway for grocery shopping.

The kitchen was large and had all the utensils, tools, pans, baking sheets that we needed. Also there's a large dining table and seating area by fireplace. Upstairs had two couches and tv, and two bedrooms.

Parking was easy with two car garage and space outside to turn around.

Dealing with Woutje (the owner) was very pleasant. She responded quickly to questions and was friendly and hospitable.
