Rocky Glen Condo - Forest Nest in the Baraboo Bluffs

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,200 sq. ft.
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Condo - 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (could sleep 4+)

Unit 4 is perched amongst a canopy of oak and birch trees - you can stand on the balcony, reach out, and touch leaves and branches over 2-stories from the ground! Unit 4 is one of eight condominiums in a building nestled amongst a mature birch/oak forest with views over the Lake Wisconsin valley. Casual, whimsical, bright furnishing. Italian ceramic floor in bath and kitchen. New step-in rainfall shower. Woodburning stove insert in the original, beautiful, stone fireplace. Small firepit outside for quiet summer/fall eves; or hearty-folks roasting s'mores in winter.

Lovely, oiled-teakwood laminate floors LR and Hall - carpeted bedrooms. You may find yourself resting on a pillowcase embroidered by my Cornish grandmother; or snuggled under a quilt made of squares of men's suit material; or find pencil drawings sent to Cornwall from the trenches of WWI...poke about...little surprises all over.

AND...and whole bass fiddle case of books!

Wildlife sightings - deer, turkey, raccoon, owl, and birds of all sorts fly over or walk through these remarkable surrounds. Marvelous earthrise and earthsets. I think the trees up here talk.

Parfrey's Glen official entrance is a 20-minute walk away. Devil's Lake is a 10-minute ride. Devil's Head Ski/Golf Resort is 200 yards down Bluff Road. Quaint Merrimac FREE ferry (seasonal). Cascade Mountain Ski/Snowboarding or Wollersheim Winery/Sauk City - 20-minute ride. Attraction notebook available in unit.

Plenty of QUIET. Noise restriction after 11p. You could write your book here! Remarkable views. Friendly condo neighbors.

Keywords: Condominium - Rocky Glen is about 300 yards up Bluff Road and on the opposite side of the entrance to Devil's Head Ski and Golf Resort

About Lesleigh

Comfy in the living room - fireplace blazing nearby and watching something wonderful on PBS...probably the Dicken's series...what teriffic tear-jerkers!

Lesleigh purchased this condo in 1999

Why Lesleigh chose Lake Wisconsin

How could I NOT have fallen in love with this place!? (I didn't mean was a first project for me/my chef brother.) Although not a skiier or golfer, I AM a walker and I just step out the door and I'm nearly in the woods...AND stepping out on the balcony puts you eye--level with tree tops. Only squirrels, cranes, turkey vultures, and lovely little birds get a better view.

What makes this condo unique

Peace - to watch the trees 'converse' with each other - the neverending changes framed by each window to the forest - the very occasional concert (Los Lobos a several several years ago) or fireworks from Devil's Head Resort on New Year's Eve - sitting around the firepit on a summer or fall evening - the water from a quartzite well in the basement (it bypasses the water softening system otherwise required for the building) - staying up the nights male owls joust in the air above our parking lot (I always think of the Quiddich field from Harry Potter.)

Guestbook comments from the owner

This amazing building is 3 stories high in total, but only 2 stories high in any one place. There are 4 bays consisting of two condos, one atop another. Each bay juts out and/or into the bluff and forest. Wonderful design!...and it is a wonderful healing place. We hope you enjoy sharing the magic up here.

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

Peaceful. Relaxing. Inviting. Love the views in springtime. This was a last minute getaway and perfect accommodations for our family, including our dog. Lesleigh is great and very helpful; she provides all the comforts of home. Rocky Glen is comfortable and quiet, a welcoming spot to call home for our stay. Nestled among the trees, and surrounded by hills and country roads. Close to awesome hiking and the perfect distance from the bustle of the Dells, yet close enough to make a drive in for our girls to have a day of water park fun. Looking forward to future visits.

Slice of Heaven in the forest!

  • 5 of 5

What a treasure! Our girls weekend was one of the most relaxing weekends we've had. The condo had everything, and then some! It was cozy, inviting, warm, and we just fell in love with it. The living room offered each of us the opportunity to lounge in our own chair, watch the roaring fire, and listen to Lesleigh's awesome CD collection. We seriously thought about strapping the INCREDIBLE chaise lounge on the top of our car and taking it home. We ventured out to Parfrey's Glen (make a point to go there - so beautiful!!!), Devils Lake, Wollersheim Winery, and the Driftless Glen Restaurant. Upon leaving, we didn't say goodbye as we all said we just have to come back again. Lesleigh was great to work with and was as much concerned about us having a good time, as we were. Thank you for everything and we'll be back soon!

Owner's Response: Wow Mary Jo! hit all the special spots ('cept Dr. Evermore's - but you can do that another time)...and I warned you about that DOES just 'grab' one's body to stay put!.... Thank you for coming here...and for sharing your special renewing time here.

warm and cheerful

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful spot on the edge of the woods. It is clean, comfortable and well stocked with quilts and comforters to suit every taste. We made a giant pillow and blanket fort in the living room for the kids and they loved it! Miss Lesleigh is laid back and genuinely happy to have guests there. The kids enjoyed the decorations and running in the yard. The neighbors are also friendly and welcoming with guests. It's the best spot to enjoy the park and local attractions. The kids loved it so much more than the nearby water parks Disneyland atmosphere. I think the fire pit and barbecue were the best part of the stay... we enjoyed the time outside and the friendliness of the neighbors

Owner's Response: So good to have this city-family up here! Have known Polyana for some time from some renewable energy work, but never had time for either one of us to connect as her visit here was most welcomed. Outdoor cooking, listening to the forest, hearing locals (like raccoons, turkey, cranes, owls, coyotes) conversing must be a special pleasure from city sounds. Hope they make time to come again.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

First let me say that Lesleigh is that greatest host. We had a hard time finding the place and she came out and met us. She already had the fireplace going and the unit was nice and warm and cozy. She took the time to explain a few things and even gave us some advice on things that might interest us.

This was supposed to be a ski weekend but there was no snow, so we turned it into a hiking weekend instead. What a pleasant, relaxing weekend we had and staying here was the the finishing touch.

We will be coming back for sure. Thank you for a great weekend getaway!

Owner's Response: This family's first intent in planning their trip was to ski...AND...the weather has been so remarkably varied that there was none at Devil's Head by the time of their scheduled arrival...SOOOOO...they hiked, cooked (apparently a 'best cheeseburger' contest the first night), built a few great fires, and promised they'd come back. I'm taking them at their word. Delighted!

Great family experience

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I are busy business owner / professionals that unfortunately do not connect with our teenagers as frequently as we would like except on family get-a-ways. We have a high standard of cleanliness, convenience, and communication with property owners in selecting venues. Lesleigh and her Rocky Glen Condo met our requirements, we were able to connect with our teenagers skiing at Devil's Head and hanging out together at Rocky Glen. We had a negative experience lodging at Devil's Head over 8 years ago, I recommend Rocky Glen Condo as an alternative option since lodging conditions have not improved since then.

Owner's Response: Was amazing, given another roller coaster winter, that this family arrived WITH snow to ski on! Really! I was holding my breath for their visit. My hope is that further bonding happens here for RKB and his family...ANY season! I've likened the experience of staying here more like house-sitting for a friend than staying at a was happy to read that the family could just "hang out" together during their stay. <3

Rocky Glen condo. Wonderful ecperience!

  • 5 of 5

Quite simply put, A+. " L " is a kind and gracious host. All aspects went with ease and simplicity. I went skiing with my kids at Devils Head, fantastic location. Close and private condo. Very nice comfortable stay with wonderful personal touches and amenities. I will be staying there again next year. Thank you "L"

Happy New Year!

Owner's Response: Delighted to welcome this lively family for their first visit! Thankfully the slopes served them well AND the temps were not the minus-minus we've had the past few days/nights. I understand at least one of the party took my recommended Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castile Soap about refreshing!...and, somehow, warming after it's all done. Looking forward to welcoming them back! Perhaps in another season, just for a new set of adventures?
