About the property

A 3 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom Chalet Five Minutes Walk From The Centre of Town

Situated in Saas-Fe this luxurious chalet, located 3 minutes walk from the centre of town, has three bedrooms all with en-suite facilities (sleeps 6). Two bedrooms contain a double bed and the third a set of bunk beds. The bedroom on the lower ground floor has a spectacular shower carved out of the Swiss granite stone that the Chalet is built on.

The top floor makes way for a good-sized open plan kitchen and sitting room with a real log fire that creates the lovely atmosphere we all desire when on a skiing holiday. The kitchen is well equipped with a fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer, electric oven and hob and has direct access to a south-facing terrace. The sitting room contains a large picture window that provides fantastic views of the mountain range that surrounds the resort. With Wi-Fi internet access, cable TV and under floor heating below the solid oak floors, the chalet really does provide you with all the facilities you should require.

Saas-Fee has a wide variety of shops, from sophisticated boutiques to sports stores to corner shops selling regional specialities and fresh produce. Most of them are managed by the owners, who offer expert friendly advice in several language. There's a good range of eating in Saas-Fee with around 50 restaurants and cafés ranging from Michelin-starred gourmet dining at one of Switzerland's top restaurants to cuisine from Europe and around the world. There are plenty of cafés, bars and pizzerias and 11 mountain restaurants, making it easy to find a light bite to eat day or night. With around 20 bars, many of them situated at the foot of the slopes and 3 night clubs there's also plenty of après ski to be enjoyed.

About Chalet Greta

Chalet Greta is owned by an English Family. We unfortunately don't get enough spare time to make the most of Chalet Greta so we have decided to rent it out from January 2014. Redeveloped by us in 2009 we have tired to create a comfortable and relaxing environment which works for people of all ages. With all the necessary mod cons we hope you will be able to enjoy the chalet and Saas Fee as much as we have.

Chalet Greta purchased this chalet in 2007

Why Chalet Greta chose Saas Fee

We decided to buy in Saas Fee because it is a high altitude resort and therefore has snow sure slopes. In the Winter is has fantastic skiing and in the Summer there is plenty of walking on offer. As for Saas Fee it is virtually car free, contains lots of great restaurants and plenty of night-life.

What makes this chalet unique

It is nice to have created a chalet where all the bedrooms have en-suites which is located close enough to village but in a very quiet street/ area.

Saas Fee offers some of the finest year round skiing and snow boarding in the Swiss Region and was in fact voted Best Swiss Ski Resort in 2012. Saas-Fee sits at 1,800m above sea level and its slopes rise to a snow-sure 3,500m with glacier skiing thrown in for good measure.

Chalet Greta is located in the Wildi area, which is considered to be the sunniest and best part of Saas Fee as it is quiet and private. The ski lifts are no more than 17 minutes walk from the chalet or 4 minutes via the electric bus. Saas-Fee claims a choice of 48 different slopes once those of the adjacent villages of Saas-Grund, Saas-Balen and Saas-Almagell have been factored in. (The villages are united by an 'all areas' lift pass, which grants access to a total of 145km of pistes. There are no lift links between them, but the local post bus provides free transport every half hour.)

Saas-Fee lies at a chunky 1,800m, with the slopes rising to a snow-sure 3,500m and glacier skiing thrown in for good measure.

Saas-Fee offers 22 lifts, including 3 cable cars, 1 funicular railway, 5 gondolas, 2 chairlifts, the remainder being surface lifts (draglifts). Other activities include snowboarding, paragliding, hang gliding, and tobogganing.

If coming from London we would recommend Berne Airport as it is the closest to Saas Fee. There are two flights a day from London City Airport with Swiss airline. Other airports: Basel airport is 226km. Geneva airport is 227km. Zurich airport is 249km. Once you arrive at your preferred Swiss airport we highly recommend that you use the train service for your transfer. The train service in Switzerland is incredibly reliable and efficient. It also takes considerably less time to travel Saas Fee by Train than any other form of transport. To get to Saas Fee you need to take the train to Visp. Directly in front of Visp railway station take the bus to Saas Fee. Saas Fee is car free so to get around you use their electric taxis or buses.

The owner of the the chalet was very helpful and made the booking process very clear. The chalet itself was clean with very nice showers and baths.

Would highly recommend this property and Saas Fee to anyone. We normally ski in Zermatt but we will holiday in Saas Fee from now on as the village is warm and is full of charm. The mountains are stunning and the skiing is perfect for families. Unable to find fault…….

Chalet Greta

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful chalet. On the outside of the Main Street which is perfect for families. All three bedrooms and bathrooms are lovely. Warm and cosy. Well equipt kitchen. The fire in the lounge was very smoky so we opted not to use it after the first night which was a shame. I would have also liked a safe in the Chalet to leave valuables. The stairs are very steep but as long as you are prepared for this they just take a little getting used to.

A perfect place to be in Saas-Fee

  • 5 of 5

We - as a family of 5 - enjoyed our 2-week stay in Chalet Greta in Saas-Fee. After the day on the piste, we deposit our skis and shoes in the private looker at the ski station and could jump to the bus which brought us just 100 meters closed to the chalet - what a nice luxus. And very comfortable to return to the chalet with 3 bathrooms for a shower. We enjoyed every evening relaxing in the living room with the fireplace. The chalet is also placed in a very quite area of Saas-Fee but also just a short walk to the next shop. Thanks for this nice holiday. Also thanks to the people of Alpine Retreats for the nice welcome and support during our stay!

Very comfortable stay in this Chalet in Saas Fee

  • 5 of 5

We were 5 adults and had a very comfortable stay in this Chalet in Saas Fee. The Chalet is spacious, and has all the amenities you need for a week's stay, e.g. kitchenette, washing machine, small dish washer, some board games, t.v., dvd player, etc. It is a bit of a walk from the Alpine Express Lift - 15 minutes for a fit group of people, but is a good way to warm up the aching muscles prior to hitting the slopes. Is also a bit of a walk into town to the restaurants, but again, we enjoyed walking off the delicious meals we had here in the resort.

Wifi was good up in the living area, but weak to non-existent in the downstairs bedrooms, especially at night, for some reason.

Charming chalet and fabulous skiing

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent an amazing sunny ski week at Chalet Greta. The location of the Chalet couldn’t be better - within very short walking distance to everything one could need - ski lifts, restaurants/ bars and shops. There is also easily accessible snow shoeing, sledging and winter hiking trails.

The Chalet was comfortable and cozy. We truly felt like a home away from home and are looking forward to coming back next year.

Gorgeous property, you will not be disappointed!!!

  • 5 of 5

Chalet Greta is a beautiful property set in the most breath taking surroundings! We looked at LOTS of Chalets before booking and Greta could not have been more perfect.

Booking and organising the holiday before our arrival was a breeze. Katie the owner was so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. It was our first ski trip but Katie provided us with a wealth of information, she had everything covered. We pre-ordered our food shopping so the chalet was stocked on our arrival, very convenient.

Travelling to Saas Fee was also effortless. The Swiss people were so friendly and everyone was happy to help us with directions. When we arrived in the resort a member of Katie's team greeted us as the bus stop. Adam directed us to the Chalet and answered all our questions about the resort facilities. We were blown away by the surroundings and the quality of the Chalet. Modern yet traditional, spacious, clean, all the appliances you need. The dishwasher and washing machine were especially useful. We were 3 couples sharing the Chalet so it was great having a bathroom each. Greta is so beautiful you will not be disappointed!

All of the restaurants and cafes we tried in the resort served fantastic food. The revolving restaurant on the top of the mountain is a must, delicious food and incredible views. The only takeaways in the resort were pizza but we were more than happy with this. They were pricer than takeaway pizza in the UK but that's to be expected. There are plenty of food shops in the resort which stock everything you could need during your stay.

Katie has a storage locker right next to the ski lift so storing our equipment and boots was so convenient. No long walk in your uncomfortable ski boots to the lifts.

Our overall experience in Saas Fee was fantastic. The resort was beautiful with plenty of runs for our beginner/intermediate skill level. Chalet Greta exceeded our expectations, Katie was so helpful and we hope to return again soon!
