About John McKenney
Hello, I am the forth generation of my family to live in this area. I am an avid hiker, naturalist, wildlife enthusiast, and truly enjoy all the things outdoors.
Why John McKenney chose Suffern
This property is part of my family's original farm purchased in the late 1800's. My parents built the house their selves in the 1950s (hence the name Cynthia's place). It is an absolute gem of a location and I want to share it with others who also appreciate nature and wildlife.
What makes this House unique
The secluded location has fantastic views of the mountain and pond in the back yard on the 25 acre estate. Everyday provides for something new to see: the blue heron fishing at the pond, hawks circling over head, turkeys traveling through the back yard, deer at dusk or dawn, or just the clouds floating over the mountain.

We stayed here over Thanksgiving and it was a great little place, the perfect size for my husband and me and our 2 adult children. Charming, very nicely renovated old farmhouse in a rustic setting. All was clean and well kept.
We were impressed with the natural beauty of the area, and all of the parks, preserves, etc., nearby, but also nearby towns with plenty of restaurant options. A great combination of privacy plus relative convenience.
One note: the weather was quite cold and windy, and we had to turn up the heat after the first night, after leaving it low. The extra quilts were great to have and came in handy.
The living-dining room is nice and warm to hang out in; the breakfast room is coolest, with all of the windows and lovely view.
We would definitely come back again.
We enjoyed our stay very much; the owner/manager takes pride and goes the extra mile to make sure your stay is enjoyable and that the house is well stocked in every sense. From the kitchen utensils, bowls cups etc. to plastic bags, containers trash bags etc. I only mention this as many times we have stayed at others units and the supplies or necessities are minimal. Comfortable beds which is rare in todays rental market. Overall great location, close to shopping, grocery etc. and still far enough away from the daily crowded area for peace and quiet. You can't go wrong buy staying here. Thank You John for your sharing and hospitality.
Great visit to Hudson valley
We were comfortable and cozy in this lovely home near the Palisades. Would definitely stay again.
A+ Owners and Great Location
These property owners definitely went above and beyond during our stay. We were a little more needy than normal due to some unforeseen circumstances, but John was very accommodating and extremely easy to get in touch with and obviously cares about the house, property and his guests.
The house was very clean, had everything we needed, plus they included nice touches like a little welcome basket of goodies in the kitchen, variety of shampoo, conditioner and soap in the bathrooms, and a well marked driveway. We had a small group with ages 1 to 70 and everybody had a great time. The living room allowed plenty of space for everybody to hang out together, talk, drink/eat, watch TV, play games - it was perfect for us.
Also, the location of the house is really close to some great hiking, beautiful scenery, has easy access to a grocery store, restaurants, etc. but in a more private setting. In summary, it is a perfect place to be NEAR it all, without being IN it all.
We very much enjoyed our stay - relaxed, watched a wood pecker, hiked, shopped, visited farms, easy travel to WP. John's book recommendations that we tried & liked Secor Farm's cider donuts, Coopers Still, and David's Bagels - all delicious.
My friends and I came here for a wedding. We came from out of town and didn't know the area at all. This place was absolutely perfect! It was far enough away from everything that you felt like you were in your own oasis. But the grocery store and shops were only 10 min away. And John was great to work with! I'd definitely stay here again if we came back to the area.
