About John McKenney
Hello, I am the forth generation of my family to live in this area. I am an avid hiker, naturalist, wildlife enthusiast, and truly enjoy all the things outdoors.
Why John McKenney chose Suffern
This property is part of my family's original farm purchased in the late 1800's. My parents built the house their selves in the 1950s (hence the name Cynthia's place). It is an absolute gem of a location and I want to share it with others who also appreciate nature and wildlife.
What makes this House unique
The secluded location has fantastic views of the mountain and pond in the back yard on the 25 acre estate. Everyday provides for something new to see: the blue heron fishing at the pond, hawks circling over head, turkeys traveling through the back yard, deer at dusk or dawn, or just the clouds floating over the mountain.

We very much enjoyed our stay - relaxed, watched a wood pecker, hiked, shopped, visited farms, easy travel to WP. John's book recommendations that we tried & liked Secor Farm's cider donuts, Coopers Still, and David's Bagels - all delicious.
My friends and I came here for a wedding. We came from out of town and didn't know the area at all. This place was absolutely perfect! It was far enough away from everything that you felt like you were in your own oasis. But the grocery store and shops were only 10 min away. And John was great to work with! I'd definitely stay here again if we came back to the area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 4-day stay at this peaceful Hudson River Valley property. The property is centrally located for exploring the southern portion of the valley on both sides of the river. It worked well for 2 couples - 3 bedrooms, 2 baths — with a sizable living room and a lovely breakfast room. It has been very nicely updated, with new kitchen (gas range) and baths, fresh paint, and comfortable beds, couches, and furnishings throughout - both inside and on the roomy outside patio. The property has an outstanding view overlooking a large pond where we watched wildlife and birds as we relaxed at the end of each busy day. The owners stocked the property with lots of thoughtful touches, including a snack basket and waters in the cavernous refrigerator. They were remarkably responsive during our entire stay, including with ideas for hikes, historic homes, state parks, restaurants, and helping us find them when we got turned around. We would happily return in the future.
Beautiful home adjacent to Harriman State Park
My family of five enjoyed staying in this home with beautiful pond views and trails! We had the pleasure of seeing quite a bit of wildlife, and taking advantage of the area's natural spaces. The apartment is very comfortable, updated, and well-kept, just as described.
Lovely Spot for Work or Play
Stayed here for a couple of weeks while I was getting a big project finished, and it couldn't have been a nicer spot to hunker down. Loved watching the wildlife from the sun room, and my kids loved splashing in the creek. Very close to a wide range of hiking trails. Would definitely return.
Peaceful home in the woods
John, the property manager was very helpful and flexible with check in and check out. We will stay here again.
