|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
This summerhouse was built in 2005 and is 65 square meters. It has two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and a living room. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed. The second bedroom has double bed. In the living room is a sleeping sofa for two. The kitchen is equipped with all the necessary tools, a good fridge and a dishwasher. A big flat TV screen and is in the living room. The bathroom has a very good shower. There is also a hot tub to use after a long travelling day, ideal for relaxing.
The house has a wide terrace from where you can enjoy the panorama Mountain View while preparing the BBQ.
In 2010 when we bought this beautiful summerhouse. At that time it was fairly new and the interiour almost ready, but outdors remained lots of work to be done. Since then we have invested our time in building a new veranda, installing the hot tub and preparing a good playground. Now when everyting is in pristine condition we want to share this wonderful log cabin with others.
Sigurbjörn Björnsson purchased this cottage in 2010
We were visiting Iceland for the first time (a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 teenagers) and couldn't have wished for a better place to stay for the week. Our hosts had been welcoming and accommodating from booking, right through to meeting us at the roadside (we were late, there's so much to see on the way from the airport but it wasn't a problem).
The cabin itself is very cosy and homely and in a fantastic location, the main sights are within easy reach and you can even make Jokulsarlon in a day if you set off early. Coming 'home' to the lovely warm underfloor heating and a relax in the hot tub was wonderful. We would definitely recommend this property and look forward to returning to Iceland one day.
And... we were also fortunate enough to experience the Aurora... twice!
I am normally very bad at leaving reviews when I return from somewhere but in this case I feel like I have to because I simply cannot fault this cabin, it's location or it's facilities. 100% recommend this to anyone planning to see as much of the Golden Circle as possible.
Th e owners of the cabin are extremely helpful, answering any pre travel questions we had within a few hours. We were delayed on arrival (would NOT recommend SADCAR car rental) and the girl stayed until midnight to show us the way to the cabin.
I took my 2 daughters to Iceland in June of 2016 and I chose this cabin for several reasons: It was adorable, it had 2 bedrooms, it had a "hot pot" (hot tub) on the deck, and it was near Selfoss, so we were closer to the natural attractions that we wanted to visit.
I highly recommend this rental. Sigurbjörn Björnsson is a perfect host. He will meet you at the main road and take you in to the property. He leaves you a cell phone to contact him or to use for local calls. He has great advice about what to see. He lives in Reykjavik, but he is available if you have any problems.
We loved this little house, which is right on the Golden Circle road, very close to Kerid crater. There are horses and sheep nearby and it is peaceful and quiet.
The house is in great condition and only 15 minutes to the Selfoss grocery store. We headed out every day on an adventure, came home and filled up the hot pot with geothermal water, made dinner, and then went for walks in the evening, around 10 pm. (Summer solstice is amazing!)
As the title of my review says, of all the vrbo houses I have rented in America and abroad, this is #1 on our list!
So we stayed at the above location mid March. We was lucky enough to have lovely weather during the day but cloudy at night (so no northern lights :-( ). From the moment we drove up to the cabin it felt perfeft. Built all of wood with under floor heating throughout. It was warm and cozy with a lovely decking area all the way around to take in all of the spectacular view. All the little nic-naks scattered around really did give it the personal touch and made it feel more like a home than just a empty chalet.
It was located in a really good location so we could get round the golden circle in a day and although not close to the city and blue lagoon it was not an issue as the drive through the mountains was breath taking.
Sigurbjörn met us on the main road and guided us to the cabin the first time. He was so helpful and was available throughout our stay if we needed any help or advice. The "hot pot" or hot tub was a lovely touch at the end of the day. Just before the end of the holiday I even proposed to my now fiancé in the cabin. We will definitely be returning in the next few years.

Very good communication from sigurbjorn from day one. Always happy to help with anything I asked, and was always pleasant. Upon arrival, the hot tub was filled up which was very nice to going on straight away. Everything needed is at the cabin and was immaculately clean. Once we knew the area, the cabin was very easy to get to. Couldn't have asked for much more and will be definitely hoping to come back later this year or next. Would highly recommend this property to anyone thinking of going to Iceland.
IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GOLDEN CIRCLE! (60 away from Reykjavik and 15 min. away from Selfoss town)
The cabin is located a short distance from all major nature pearls in South Iceland: Beautiful waterfall Gullfoss (The Golden waterfall) and the world famous geothermal site of the spouting hot spring Geysir and the National park Thingvellir, Kerid, a volcanic crater is within a walking distance. Solheimar, eccovillage, Laugarvatn Village and Spa Fontana where you can take a bath in the wonderful geothermal hot water. Skalholt a historical site, where history of Iceland was made for centuries. Waterfalls Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss are around 1-1.5 hours drive away as is the glacier outlet Solheimajokull where is the possibility of glacier hiking with special glacier guides is always at hand. Thorsmork valley with endless possibility for longer and shorter hikes (4x4 necessary). The Vestman Islands are a true paradise for birdwatchers with the biggest population of puffins in the world as well as being the historic site for the volcanic eruption of 1973 when the eruption stared on the outskirts of the 5000 population town. To reach the islands you take the ferryboat from Landeyjarhofn, the sail only takes around 40 minutes. Thjorsardalur is a valley where one of the highest waterfalls in the country lies, named Haifoss. Jokulsárlon, glacier lagoon is around four-five hours drive away.
In direction north and north west you will find Hraunfossar (the lava waterfalls), Deildartunguhver, the geothermal hot spring with the most amount of running hot water per second in the world. Historic site Reykholt is in that area as well, but historian Snorri Sturluson lived there in the 13th century. The world famous Blue Lagoon is located on Reykjanes peninsula 20 minutes from the international airport and around 85 minutes away for the cabin. The location of the cabin is perfect for day trips to these locations, as well as to Reykjavík, the capital.
The cabin is located in a small summer house area, and the closest village is Selfoss, with approximately around 15 minutes drive away. There you will find all necessary services: Medical service, Supermarkets, Gas stations, Restaurants, Banks, Pharmacy, Liquor store, Museum, Golf Course, etc.
The cabin is equipped with a hot tub. The new swimming pool at Borg is extremely good for a country-side pool. It has small hot tubs for children a play area and a swimming area, and geothermal hot water, of course, which is standard for Iceland. It is also only a half an hour drive to Reykjadalur, from the cabin, where there are hot springs and warm rivers, making the place perfect for outdoor bathing.
There's only ten minutes drive to Öndverdanes Golf Club which is open for everybody and a very short distance to the swimming pools in both Hraunborgir and Minniborg, and Minniborg also has horse riding, mini-golf, and a small grocery shop. Kidjaberg Golf Club also has a little restaurant.
There's a Jetski rental at Lake Svínavatn and angling for example in Lakes Apavatn, Laugarvatn, Úlfljótsvatn, not to mention in Lake Thingvallavatn itself. Hvítá River is also very popular for rafting.
There is prolific bird-life in the area, making it perfect for birding and birdwatching. There are also several beautiful hiking trails to be found, with breath-taking view over the area. It is also possible to do snowmobile tours, super Jeep tours, glacier walking, ice climbing, riding lessons and horse riding tours, visit the cultural historical sites, in addition to experiencing the fantastic natural sites in the area.
