|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
This traditional cottage is a cosy escape for two, with all modern conveniences. The rooms are light and airy with open country views. There is a full kitchen, dining area and comfortable seating. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with adjacent shower room. At the front of the cottage there is a small private terrace with table and chairs. There are also large communal gardens to enjoy.
Two cottages, one sleeping 2 and the other sleeping 4, are adjacent to the owners property in the tiny hamlet of Petit Poubreu. With large communal gardens the cottages are tastefully decorated to combine modern convenience with the traditional features of a Breton 'longere'. The picturesque village of St Laurent sur Oust is only five minutes walk away from the property. Here you will find tennis courts, a children’s play area and a local bar serving bread and groceries. Close by, the Nantes-Brest canal is ideal for walking, cycling or fishing. Just a short drive will take you to the Medieval market town of Malestroit where there are a selection of restaurants, bars, shops, banks and other facilities. There is a local market on Thursday mornings and live music on Friday evenings throughout the summer.
My daughter & I really enjoyed the peace & calm of the beautiful little gite set in the Breton countryside. It was only a 5 minute drive to the town of Malestroit where we found good restaurants & shops. My daughter enjoyed the lively Friday evening music in the town where everyone sat around in the cafés & bars listening to a Breton band - locals & tourists alike. Don & Ben were very helpful, suggesting places to visit. The sheep were great, they welcomed us home every evening with a 'bah!'.
Our plan is to stay a week at a time in many European places to discover the local areas. Harvest Cottage offered us an ideally situated base for this activity. The cottage and the surrounding facilities were as advertised. It was clean and comfortable providing us with everything to meet our needs. Don, the owner, was available if assistance was required. In all, a peaceful and relaxing setting.
We had a nice stay here in June 2015. Its a rural location so a car is needed but the supermarkets are only 10 mins away. Host was english speaking and Wifi was available which was much appreciated. The gite is an ideal base for exploring Brittany as its South enough to get good weather and only 40 mins or so from the coast.
Our home for the fortnight was all I had hoped for and Don was the perfect host.
The photos on the website give a good idea of the cottage but perhaps make it appear a little smaller than it really is.
The four of us were able to relax immediately in the spacious cottage, and spent the next two weeks exploring the area, with several ideal suggestions from Don.
The accommodation was clean, and well maintained with more than enough cutlery, crockery and cookware.
The local area was great for walking, and I recommend the canal walk to Malestroit and back, with a short break in town for a coffee and crepe.
We're heading further South this year but wouldn't hesitate to return for another stay in the rainbow.
A fantastic holiday! the cottage was everything we hoped for, peaceful, well serviced and clean. The nearest village is only 10 minutes walk and the Brest Nantes canal a further 5 minutes. Nearest town, Malestroit, is 10 minutes drive, well serviced with 4 supermarkets, bakers, butchers and many other shops, also some very nice restaurants, creperies and bars. Free live music on friday evenings in the summer brings a good size crowd and a very good market on Thursday morning is worth visiting. If you want to travel further afield, Rennes and Vannes are less than an hour away. Carnac is 1 1/4 hours (really large sunday morning market and a great beach. Beautiful village Rochefort-En-Terre is only 10 miles away well worth a visit very picturesque and some very nice places to eat. Don is a charming host and lives on site so can always offer assistance if needed. Hope to visit again in the future as this was probably the most restful holiday we have had and are more thank happy to recommend to anyone, am sure you will not be disappointed.
My husband & I really enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage. So peaceful in the country but only 5 minutes by car to the gorgeous town of Malestroit with it's medieval buildings, various restaurants and cafes. Malestroit has everything you might need, banks, several supermarkets and various other shops and there are some nice walks along the Nantes-Brest canal. The nearest village to Harvest Cottage, 5 mins walk away, is St Laurent sur Oust. Here you will find a very friendly local bar/restaurant.
The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable and we appreciated the free wi-fi and the availability of UK TV for those evenings when we were too exhausted from visiting all the lovely local villages and beaches to do anything else. The owner is very friendly and helpful. We're definitely planning to visit again next year.
The port side city of Vannes is just 30 minutes drive away and the Breton capital, Rennes at just 45 minutes on the N166. You can reach the nearest beach in 30 minutes but there are many others a little further away around the Gulf of Morbihan. You may prefer a stroll around the cobbled streets of Rochfort en Terre or a visit to La Gacilly, the home of perfumier Yves Rocher. The chateau at Josslin, the megalithic stones at Carnac and many other well preserved and interesting inland and coastal villages are all accessible for a day trip. At the Museum of the Resistance at St Marcel, just outside Malestroit, you will discover the history of the ‘maquis’ and the memorable battle that took place there during the second world war.
