Description

Zweisimmen Chalet Rental Photos and Description

Glorious chalet sleeping up to 12 people in 5 bedrooms

Chalet Calvert is privately owned home that has been designed and built to specification in 2007. It is fully equipped and furnished to a very high standard and has been awarded 'Four Star Luxury' by the Swiss Tourist Board in Gstaad. It is suitable for families or groups of friends and has a large living/dining area for socialising.

The chalet is light, spacious (220 sq m) and elegantly furnished on 3 floors. All the rooms have uninterrupted south-facing views over Zweisimmen and the Gstaad resort mountain slopes. The chalet is located on the edge of the village but is only 5 minutes walk from the centre of the village, local shops and the railway station. The location is very quiet with a south facing balcony for sunbathing!

About Jacki West

Chalet Calvert is owned by the West family. We live in London but travel often to Zweisimmen and beyond. We all speak French and German too and love skiing!

Jacki West purchased this chalet in 2007

Why Jacki West chose Gstaad area

We love skiing in the Swiss Alps as there are much stricter controls on what can be built unlike in France and Austria which means what is built is of high quality and most importantly the slopes are much quieter, safer and more pleasant.

The Gstaad Mountain Area is Switzerland's best kept secret as the area is vast and barely known. Gstaad is very exclusive but Zweisimmen has a much more villagey feel and is a home from home.

What makes this chalet unique

Chalet Calvert was decorated by Mrs West who has an eye for lovely pieces of furniture. The result is the chalet feels very homely and has everything you could need.

The south facing balcony is beautiful as you can sit and look out onto the ski slopes whilst basking in the sunshine in a quiet spot.

Beautiful huge chalet with all that you need

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in Chalet for 8 days in July 2015. It was 5 of us (2 were younger children) .We had the most wonderful experience. Chalet is very spacious and beautifully decorated. It has everything you need as a big family from kitchenware to bedroom sheets and covers and towels. It has dishwasher and washing machine and you can easily live there for as long as you need as a big group. The 2nd floor dining area is big enough for 12 people. The balcony is huge and the area is quiet and so picture perfect.

The village is just few minutes walk (its down the hill) where you have all the necessities such as big supermarket, pharmacy, dairy shop and few cute restaurants with great food. It is good though to have a car for that area to get around unless you are a real hiker! Renting was so easy, the owner was so responsive and made the process very smooth for us.She also sent us some information about the area which we found very helpful.

Just one option: experience it yourself!

  • 5 of 5

We booked this chalet with six adults and two children and everything worked out great for us. Contact with the owner went very well and all instructions were very clear. With 5 bedrooms and three bathrooms, there was plenty of space for everyone. The 'pièce de résistance' in our opinion was the large dining table in the living-room/kitchen; the place where we mostly gathered. The large sitting area in the living room allowed for people to retreat as well.

Luckily, the steep road to the chalet didn't provide for any challenges, as it was maintained very well so any snow that did fall disappeared very quickly.

Wifi worked well but didn't seem to reach the ground floor (but there are only two bedrooms there).

The large kitchen had almost everything we needed except for a pair of scissors (without a doubt an earlier visitor misplaced them or something). We're avid cooks and thought the frying pans and kitchen knives were a bit worn: the owner promised us that new utensils are on their way so we can enjoy them on our imminent return! There was enough cutlery and croquery to host an orphanage.

Apart from the bunk beds, all beds were double beds with one big quilt. Some in our group would have preferred single quilts, so we'll ask for that next time; wouldn't know if that's an option.

A suggestion would be to create coathooks in the large hall on the ground floor so that one can leave the large ski coats there easily.

These are petty issues though: the chalet really lived up to our expectations. Magnificent views, very comfortable, very clean and very convenient. All equipment worked as expected.

We rented a ski-locker near the Rinderberg station (ask for it at the ticket-counter) which allowed us to walk to and from the chalet without having to carry our gear. It's a 10-minute walk that saves you from the hassle of finding a place to park your car. Nevertheless we decided to drive to the Eggli/Vidamenette area one day, which offers some spectacular views if weather permits. We took the train to Schönried another day, to visit the lovely cosy Rellerli-area which has an easy blue run all the way to the valley, with spectacular views as well. However, we wished we had taken the car as the walk from the railway station the Rellerli-bahn was a bit longer as expected.

I could go on about this great chalet and it's wonderful surroundings and the very nice owner but there really is just one option: you should check it out yourself.

Too GOOD

  • 4 of 5

We stayed there for 3 nights but it was really well maintained and really a nice place. Just a small feedback: Since its a big chalet, you should ensure 24 hours Hot water.

But overall it was nice and we enjoyed our Holidays!

Great Chalet in a wonderful village.

  • 5 of 5

The Chalet was really easy to book and the communication with the owners was very prompt and clear. The instructions provided once we booked the chalet were very comprehensive and extremely useful.

The property is very well furnished, and in a beautiful small village. We were three families with 6 kids and there was more than enough room for everyone. I would highly recommend it. We were there during the summer, and the views were fantastic from the chalet. Thank you for the great stay.

Car: recommended

Zweisimmen is in the Simmental area of the Bernese Oberland. It lies about 1 hour by car due south of Bern. The entire region, and the Simmental in particular, is ideal for a wide range of winter sports and summer activities including skiing, snowboarding, snow cross, hiking, mountain biking, cycling, horse riding among others.

Zweisimmen town lies at 1,200metres and the top of the Rinderberg (ski lift connecting with Gstaad) is 1,800m. The resort provides direct access to the prestigious resort of Gstaad all within the same ski pass. The season runs from beginning of December until late March/early April and even beyond that there's the Glacier 3000 which is part of the same ski area.

The area is extremely beautiful and unspoiled by mass tourism. It is generally regarded as one of Switzerland's best kept secrets.
