Beautiful home and view

  • 5 of 5

This new home had a lot of room and was very accommodating for our 2 families. Its location was good in that it was in between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. The double set of bunk beds were very useful for the kids, though it was in the loft so if people wanted to be up later they had to go to lowest level. This wasn't a problem since the lowest level had TV, fridge, microwave, bathroom, pool table, comfortable reclining sofa.

If this is your first time driving in the mountains and tight roads, you probably want to travel during daylight hours and also carefully look at the map before picking this house. Some hairpin turns, not bad if you just take it easy. Though any snow/ice would have made it near impossible to travel. The drive to the house is pretty steep too.

Beautiful Cabin, Amazing Location!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 7 loved this cabin! From the decor, furnishings, and view, we couldn't have asked for a better first Smoky Mountain cabin rental. The open layout was perfect for our family Christmas vacation. The owners even took the time to decorate and put up a Christmas tree. The kitchen was very well-stocked. We brought some appliances and dishes thinking the cabin wouldn't have it but it literally had everything we needed to cook meals. For us, it was close enough to town where we did not have to drive far but also secluded enough to enjoy the wilderness. This cabin had the right combination of modernity and rustic charm.

Some things to keep in mind that didn't necessarily spoil our trip but may be nice to know:

The lower third of the driveway is quite steep. In dry conditions, any car can make it up. However, it rained the first two days of our stay which made the pavement slick. The tires of our car spun until we made it to the top of the driveway. One of my family members even slipped walking on the driveway. It would have been helpful to have 4WD but it is not necessary unless in wintry conditions.

Also, we believe there was a slight wasp infestation inside the cabin (we only saw them on the main level). We caught and released about 15 wasps during our stay and a family member was stung by one. We contacted the rental company regarding the issue but no one ever got back to us. We were prepared for critters knowing we were going to be up in the mountains so it was not a big deal for us, but for a family that may have someone with a wasp allergy, it could put a damper on things.

Lastly, while the area was secluded enough for us, for those seeking total privacy may be a bit disappointed. It looks like the area was severely hit by the fires from last year so there is a lot of rebuilding going on. There was a house right next to us in the middle of construction that created some noise at times. Also there is an existing house pretty close to the cabin on its left.

Overall we wouldn't hesitate to rent this cabin again! It exceeded our expectations.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and we are very glad you and your family enjoyed Five Bears Den! The owners have gone above and beyond to make this place the perfect vacation for their guests. For future guests, the drive way is steep at the bottom. And it is new pavement and at times could be slick. Please be aware of this and be careful. There is ample room at the top for flat parking, but to get the view this place has, there is a bit of a a climb. For the wasps, we have already had our pest control company go out and and spray and inspect the home. We cannot find any missed messages regarding the wasps during your stay. We do apologize for missing it! We would never ignore a situation like that, like you said allergies would have been bad. Please know we are sending pest control back out today to check again. Thank you for mentioning it and again, we apologize. And yes, there is construction going on and beautiful cabins are coming up on the mountain again! We love to see this because it is progress and recovery from the devastating fires of last year. There will be some construction noise. For that we apologize too, but we can't help but be thankful for that bit of noise. :) Thank you again for staying with us at Five Bears Den. We wish you and your family a blessed New Year!

Just lovely!

  • 5 of 5

We held a small reception here for our daughter and it couldn't have been more perfect! The owners were thoughtful in the appointments. The high end appliances and well stocked cookware and utensils were most helpful. The wonderful deck furniture made it a joy to relax and take in the views of the mountains. One of our guest commented that he intended to keep this cabin on his list when he returns to the GSM. Thank you for making our daughters reception a relaxed and memorable occasion!

Beautiful home with great amenities! It felt like we were home away from! Highly recommend!

  • 5 of 5

The home is well designed and beautifully furnished and decorated with stunning views! The layout of the home is perfect for comfortable sleeping arrangements, living space, and family gatherings. The entire family enjoyed every aspect of it. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you would need with cooking tools and high end appliances! We felt right at home immediately. It was encouraging to see the new construction and regrowth from last year's fires! We will definitely be back!
