Overview

About the property

Take this winter by storm with a fun weekend at an oceanfront home, FP, etc!

FYI - Long Point has so many repeat renters that 2017 is already 100% booked with 100% repeaters from June 18th~Oct 5th.

While on this Great Island oceanfront property with about 700 feet of waterfront right on Casco Bay including three private coves, you can make friends with the lobster men right from the dock on Casco Bay, swim, paddle, fish, sail, shop, or just plain relax and let the water soothe your stresses away. +/- 10 acres, wooded oceanfront acres also adjacent to a fresh water pond.

This unique oceanfront year-round home has FIVE BR (also can be spilt into a 2BR or a 3BR home during NON peak season). It boasts of breathtaking views/expansive privacy (+/- 10 acres). While facing Quahog Bay and catching the morning sunrise, the 2 fully equipped separate eat-in kitchens have multiple windows facing the expanse of oceanfront just feet away from the water's edge. Each of the 2 living areas, also with multiple windows, are bright and cheery with their own private decks. Included: private dock, cable TV, 3 TVs, 3 DVD players, hi-speed cable Internet access, WiFi, gas FP, EIGHT (8) kayaks,1canoe, Sunfish, 2000# granite mooring, 3 hammocks, 2 Weber gas grills, 2 outdoor propane burners for all those "lobsters"!

New in-ground fire-pit has everyone talking. Toasting those marshmallows by a wood burning fire overlooking the bay in comfortable ample outdoor seating for 12 has made for lots of memory making!

This approximately 10 acre waterfront property has three private coves, one of which is a 'sandy' cove and swimmers and clam diggers can wade into it. The floating dock is typically in the water from mid-May through mid-October depending on the weather. Fishermen/women can try their luck right off of the rocks. Those lucky ones hook striper or bluefish. Available are EIGHT (8) kayaks (LL Bean Manatee recreational variety) and ONE Olde Town canoe (LL Bean) than can be rowed or paddled. Additionally, Sunfish (personal 1 -2 person sailboat) is now part of the Long Point fleet.

About Hilda Douglas

Long Point is a special little piece of heaven. For generations this property has been loved and maintained for decades. It has transitioned from the year round home of my in-laws into this wonderful vacation resort for my renters, so many of whom are repeaters from one year to the next.

Off-season, it is a perfect "romantic getaway"!

Why Hilda Douglas chose Portland and Casco Bay Area

Long Point offers something special for larger groups. It is all together yet separate. With two kitchens, two living areas, two decks and approx 10 acres, large gatherings of family and friends find privacy as well as togetherness. Our guest reviews are our best advertising!

What makes this house unique

Having 10 acres, 3 coves, 700 plus feet of oceanfront, 2 decks, a private floating dock, an in-ground fire-pit, EIGHT (8) kayaks, a canoe and a sunfish offer activity, privacy and solace for just about everyone!

Guestbook comments from the manager

What a wonderful place! The whole property is breathtaking. We love it and can't wait to come back again. This is already our third visit and the first time with the dock. Great addition.

Special Place with Countless Great Features

  • 5 of 5

My family and friends rented Long Point over a long weekend in November 2016 and we were very lucky to have beautiful mild Maine weather. We all fell in love with everything about the house, the property and the surrounding area. We were a party of 10 and the home accommodated us very easily. Some of our favorite things were the gas fireplace, wonderful comfortable beds, open living/dining areas where all could spend time together comfortably, the fire pit and the general peace and quiet of the beautiful setting. Oh! And the unbelievable view and sunrises! We also had that full super moon which lit up the water at night and we could see the clouds and islands out in the water. Short trips to Freeport and Brunswick were fun as well as slightly longer trips to Boothbay and Portland.

If you are lucky enough to spend time there, Long Point is a special place with too many wonderful qualities to mention here. Hilda Douglas is an ideal hostess and we all thank her for sharing Long Point with us. It’s an inspirational place.

Ideal location and house for a friends get-togethe

  • 5 of 5

Over the years, I have rented Hilda's house several times. I keep returning. Why? Beautiful setting. Clean well-kept house. The kayaking possibility. Walks out the door. Easy drive to stores for supplies.

This year, we discovered Libby's Market in Brunswick for the very best Lobster Rolls. Took a day trip to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.

Really did not have to go anywhere....cannot beat the views from the front decks. Beautiful. Plan to return next year!

Lovely home & phenomenal water views

  • 5 of 5

A good friend of ours who lives in Harpswell recommended that we stay in this house when we went to her son's wedding in Portland, because she had stayed here in the past and was very happy with it. Great suggestion! The water views are the first thing noticed when entering the spacious living areas on both sides of the entry hallway. One of my friends took gorgeous photos (from her cell phone!) of the sunrise on Monday, our last day there. We had plenty of room for our group to spread out for quiet and privacy as needed. It was great to have two kitchens, two living areas, and two decks overlooking the water. We enjoyed watching the lobster boats emptying their traps and we saw a few seals. As one of the other reviewers said, Hilda is indeed an excellent owner who is very detail-oriented. She labeled the contents of all of the kitchen drawers (great idea!) and supplied instructions on how to use everything in the house (very nice touch to have a murphy bed in the living area in lieu of a sleeper sofa). Quaint Brunswick is only a 15 minute drive away and we shopped at the Shaw's for one night's dinner (we used the grill on the deck) and breakfasts. My only complaint: we were not there long enough to take advantage of all that the house and the area had to offer. We would definitely stay at Long Point again and I highly recommend it to other future renters.

Beautiful & spacious home

  • 5 of 5

I highly recommend this rental home if you have a family or group trip. The house is spacious and well stocked with everything you could possibly need (lots of kitchen supplies, extra bedding/towels, even a basket of bug spray and a chest full of board games!). The owner was wonderful to work with- very responsive and engaging with lots of helpful instructions. The property was clean and well maintained. There is plenty of room for parking.

We used the kayaks, the canoe, and the sunfish and had a great time. We also went on a hike nearby- the Cliff Trail- which I recommend. Its a easy/moderate hike with stunning views.

I definitely suggest a stay at Long Point!

Simply Fantastic for a graduation celebration week

  • 5 of 5

I recommend this property as one of the ones I want to return many times. We rented this home to celebrate the graduation of our daughter from Bowdoin College.

Her owner, Hilda Douglas, is absolutely caring and you can see that every step of the way. From the moment you inquire about the property to the moment you leave, you can rest assured she will answer all your questions, she is available and responds very quickly. There is nothing that this property don't have. Every thing in the listing is as described. Very well maintained, large and beatiful. Tables and chairs in different areas outside so you can choose where to have your coffee, wine or read your book. A boat deck, with tanning chairs; the south side deck with a new large table, nice chairs, umbrella, etc. Two grills. It is two houses, just in case you have two families you are close enough and yet at your own place. Definitely go kajaking, it was my first time and we had a lot of fun.

Zach's lobster bake took care of the lunch and it was great food, also great service. We enjoyed the Bowdoin Museum of Arts; the Gelato Fiasco and the Big Top in Brunswick. Some of our guests visited the Botanic GardensYou can see the ocean thru the big windows and if you are cooking, you do not miss the action due to the big mirrors.

This was one of the best vacations we had, we had great ocassion to celebrate but this home is the place to be when visiting Maine and Harpswell.

Owner's Response: What a great way to brighten up this glooming, rainy Monday morning! Thank you, Martha, for your eloquent review. It is much appreciated. I am always thrilled to hear/know that my renter's experience was so positive. Knowing that people save and anticipate a long time to get away, I feel responsible to try to make sure that their accommodations enhance their get away. I am so glad Long Point "did it" for you. FYI - in the fall, I rent Long Point in any of three ways, whole as you took it last week or just the 'north side' or just the 'south side' . Additionally, the rental time period can be as short as a few nights or a longer length of time. The rates in the fall are reduced as well. Thank you for being so lovely to work with! Hilda

Just like the song, the dilemma is 'Should I stay or should I go?' Staying on the property means enjoying a comfortable home with all of its abundant amenities including a floating dock system just a mere few feet away from the house (New construction has to be 75 feet back, however, this home is just a stone's throw from the water).

Of course, those that like to get up and go can get to L.L. Bean and the Freeport outlets within approx 25 minutes. Bowdoin College and downtown Brunswick are about 10 minutes away. Cook's Lobster House is just minutes away on the next island. Edgecomb Pottery is always an artful destination. Lots of day trip opportunities to Camden, Rockland, Wiscassett, Damiscotta, Popham Beach and Reid State Park. Music and theatre performances are at Bowdoin. A 10-cinema movie complex right at Cook's Corner about 10 minutes away. Starbucks is 10 minutes for those of you who love your lattes!

To get here, drive 2.5 hours from Boston, 40 minutes north of Portland

Other Activities: kayaking. canoeing, sailing, fishing right from this property
