We live in a major metropolitan area with busy work interacting with the public that never seems to stop. It was during our first anniversary that we visited Mount Shasta for the first time. We made an offer on a home before we left! We wanted to have a getaway that was peaceful but still full of the activities we enjoyed. Rather than renting a place each time we visited, we decided to have a home in Mount Shasta be our personal second home.
Owner purchased this House in 2006
Why Owner chose Mount Shasta
We tried to experience as much as we could during our first visit: playing golf at Mount Shasta Resort, hiking around Siskiyou Lake, eating at many of the local restaurants (that are all so good that we can't decide which one is our favorite), having an afternoon break at the local pub (The Goat Tavern), riding bicycles, fishing several of the local streams, lakes and rivers and doing a little shopping in quaint downtown Mount Shasta. We just missed ski season but knew that Mount Shasta Ski Park would be there for future winters.
What makes this House unique
It's so easy to get there by flying into Medford OR or Redding CA, both being a little more than an hour from our home, or driving up straight off I-5. We visit as often as we can, but not often enough. Since it's we're not able to us it as often as we'd like, we thought it was too beautiful to keep to ourselves so we thought it should be a vacation rental for others seeking a home away from home, to enjoy the scenery, tranquility and serenity of the Mountain. The house was nicely situated and well maintained. Being accustomed to central heating and air conditioning the house was a little chilly for us but we got used to it. The kitchen was more than large enough and the dinette accommodated 7 of us quite comfortably. The living room was furnished with very comfortable chairs and we enjoyed two basketball games and a movie there. We were visited several times by deer in the front yard and once by a jack rabbit. We would rent this house again. The only thing that bothered us a little was that the owners had posted an unending series of notes admonishing the renters to not do this, and be careful of that, etc. It made us feel like they considered the renters "low class citizens" that didn't know how to be respectful of other peoples' property. We assume they must have had a bad experience in the past because we have rented two other houses in the Mt. Shasta area and their owners' didn't feel the need to do that.
Thank you for your comments, Paul. Yes, each instruction was a result of a very bad experience with a past guest. Most of our guests do respect our property and treat our place as their own home but there are always those the ruin a stay for future guests.
This was our second visit
The house is conveniently located in close enough to town of Mt Shasta and major highways. We traveled pretty much every day using the house as a base. My dog and I could trek snow covered Mt Shasta trail to vista flat
My wife loves the kitchen. Large refrigerator, well equipped kitchen utensils. We are family of 3 and dog. We cooked every day for breakfast and dinner. The wood stove in the living room always impresses me for the heat it put out. Watching fire roars in the stove at the same time watching Olympic games was something we couldn't do at home. The house was clean and well laid out.
New finding: A great selection of beer in local super market was impressive.
We also loved use of the garage. It snowed there pretty much every night.
We sure will come back here.
Attractive house. Feels very livable. Photos of interior don't do justice to how spacious livingroom, kitchen/dining, and master br/bath are. Bass and lily motif abounds. We would return if need arises.
Peace Harmony Joy
This was the most pleasurable experience filled with Peace Joy & Harmony ****. We are looking forward in the near future to come back again and again to this same location. It has easy excess to all places of Shasta. A trip we will never forget , thank you so much for opening your house to us. Very peaceful and beautifully decorated Lily & Bass much gratitude for you giving us these days of Blissfullness. Hugs ****
Grand get away
This is the 4th time visiting and have never been disappointed.
A great place to stay
This was a wonderful place to stay. The location is only a few minutes away from the town of Mt. Shasta and its great restaurants, and only about 1/2 hour from the hiking trails on Mt. Shasta itself. The house was quiet, clean, comfortable, and well-furnished. We stayed on a particularly warm weekend, and the air conditioning was nice to have as well. The owners had great communication, and provided a bunch of information about places to eat and things to see in the area. We would definitely return.
