About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 12)

Log Home in beautiful Door County. The perfect retreat for a one of a kind family/group vacation. This log home is nestled in the woods on five acres with water access to Lake Michigan just steps away (across the street!). Ideal for a get together with family or friends. Lots to do in summer, fall and winter. Recently redecorated including new King bed in Master bedroom!

The open floor plan is ideal for the whole family to gather with a stone fireplace being the centerpiece. There are many wonderful places to retreat if you want to get away like the upstairs balcony, the front porch, the screen porch out back, or the window seats in the upstairs dormers. Our home has four private bedrooms, one of the main floor. The bonus room over the garage with three sky lights is perfect for watching a video or reading a book, and the kids or grandchildren will love the built in bunks in the upstairs bunkroom.

This home is located on 5 acres on a dead end giving you lot's of peace and quiet--you will never enjoy the stars more than here. Sand Bay beach (the locals favorite) is just a five minute drive. Hiking and biking paths are right there as well as a great fire pit to gather around long into the night. The cabin is less than ten minutes to downtown Sister Bay.

About Marc and Lori Maillefer

We and our five kids bought this land back in 1996 never imaging that we would one day build a cabin. We cleared the land and after ten years we stalked these Amish logs into our dream log home. Door County has been part of our lives for over five decades and we love sharing it with others so that they can make memories that last a life time. We call Madison home and love hanging with our family.

Marc and Lori Maillefer purchased this house in 2005

Why Marc and Lori Maillefer chose Sister Bay

Having grown up camping at Peninsula State Park we were excited to get some land in Door County!

What makes this house unique

This unique home has all the charm of a log home, with all kinds of space to spread out outside and in. We are on a dead end street and right across the street from Lake Michigan. You will love sitting around the camp fire or the fireplace, gazing at the amazing night skies and exploring the trails on our five acres

Short notice family get away

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the Refuge over Easter. Our family loved the home and getting away. It was well appointed, clean, comfortable and an easy place to relax. The bedrooms and beds were great. Often you end up with an air mattress in a closet or in the living room for the last bedroom or bed... not here. The kitchen has everything you will need. We will be back!

Beautiful, Quiet, Spacious!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great sister's week at this home outside of Sister Bay. Very nice, clean, and spacious! We had a couple of questions during the week and the owner was very quick to respond! We had an outside fire for s'mores and quickly headed inside due to the mosquitoes - but the screen porch is so wonderful we didn't mind at all. We adventured up and down Door County for shopping and eating out - everything was easy to find and the home is not far from anything. We will definitely consider coming back - it's big enough to bring the guys along.

A perfect spring weekend with old friends

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this clean, beautiful cabin...we visited with a group of long-time friends (20+ years and we're only in our mid-20s!) and enjoyed a perfect spring weekend grilling out, sitting around the fire, stargazing, and having lazy mornings drinking coffee in the big, sunny kitchen. The owners were incredibly responsive and kind, and provided clear instructions and tons of helpful instructions for great places to see and visit. We're hoping to come back again next year for the same weekend! We liked that it was "off the beaten path" and not in a humming, touristy spot - it was quiet and tranquil and beautiful. Our only regret was that it was a little too cold to use the amazing screened in porch! An awesome spot and clearly well-loved and well cared for. We enjoyed adding to the guestbook, and reading about other's adventures, too!

Great place to relax!!!

  • 5 of 5

If you want a real relaxing place to go this is the place. We had a wonderful time and plan to return next year. The cabin was great and had about everything you would need. Plenty of things outside for the kids to do they were never bored.( ages 7 to 13) stars were amazing. Enjoyed our trips to town, go cart racing, climbed Eagle Tower and took the ferry to Washington Island, roasting hot dogs and making s'mores in the fire. Great Trip. Highly recommended if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Owners were great to deal with.

Absloutely Fantastic! Book this Home!!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a get away for you and your family look no further because you will not find another vacation rental that will bring you so many wonderful memories! We have been going up to Door County for over 14 years and we have stayed in almost every area there is to offer and nothing even comes close to this house and it's location. Nestled in a beautiful secluded area and right across the street from Lake Michigan. You can hear the waves from this home. Not to mention the home has everything your family will need to make the most of your stay. The pictures are nice but they really don't do it justice. You have to be there and experience it for yourself to understand what I mean. I was able to meet the owner one afternoon while I was there and these owners are by far the best I have ever dealt with. Marc is probably one of the nicest people I have ever met in Door County! Take my advise and book this home! You will want to thank me! We will definitely be going back.
