Edgartown House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Sunroom, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

A secluded island retreat situated on a three acre lot with meadow and wooded areas yet within easy reach of all six unique island villages and towns. Beautifully decorated this home provides both indoor and outdoor living in a lovely setting. Recently added is a solar heated inground pool 16 ft X 32 ft with a cabana area including a half bath. The pool is for the exclusive use of the guests residing at 23 Jennie Lane which includes the main house as well. Rental of the entire compound ensures private use of the pool. The stone patio with barbecue, the wooden deck with hot tub and outdoor shower are the perfect answer for those marvelous Vineyard days and nights.

The sunroom/porch offers a bright and cheerful spaciousness regardless of the time of year or weather.

New for the 2011 season is three zone air conditioning for those hot humid days and nights that sometimes make things uncomfortable for sleeping.

About Betty Jean Kennedy

My husband Bill and I bought the property on the Island as out eventual retirement home. I have been a school librarian and Bill is an international business consultant. We have four grown children and two wonderful grandsons. We hope to have our island home house many family get togethers in the future.

Betty Jean Kennedy purchased this house in 2000

Why Betty Jean Kennedy chose Edgartown Area

My sister was very influential in our decision to buy our Martha's Vineyard property. As a real estate agent on the island she found a perfect spot and we both bought our three acres each and began to fulfill our dreams. Her creativity helped design the buildings and overall plan. After nine years we have both reached our goals and now have our guest house, main house and studio properties. It is here that we will retire and enjoy our island getaway

What makes this house unique

The peaceful relaxing atmosphere of the meadow away from the crowded vacation towns on the island prove a perfect retreat for a quiet time after a busy day on the island. Enjoy the sunsets or the wonderful starlit sky from the private hottub. Even on a rainy day this home is cozy and friendly for all who stay here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for the use of your house. It is a beautiful setting and decorated so pretty.

We visited the little towns and took your suggestions for hikes and beaches. The kids had lots of fun at the beaches and found rocks and shells.

We are from California and we had no idea the island was so wooded and dense. Martha's Vineyard's little towns were so cute and we loved the white house with green or black shutters. Very quaint!

We have a Mayhew descendant as a friend from Davis CA, a photographer.

A delightful home!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have been staying at this home for the last three years. It has truly been a wonderful and serene experience for all of us. Upon arrival you can't help but notice how nicely manicured the grounds are kept. At the front entrance you are greeted by the sounds of a wind chime hanging by the window. Beyond that the interior of this house is clean, full of light and it has a spacious open layout. The homeowner is very conscientious providing books, board games, many children's videos, and even beach toys. Every year we look forward to our visit to the Vineyard and staying in this lovely home.

Owner's Response: We truly enjoy sharing our island home with guests who show their appreciation of the efforts we put into making this a special place to vacation and who consider our home their home while they are on the island. We look forward to welcoming guests who return every year.

Marvelous retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time in the guest house and we so appreciate the exquisite property. The owners are great, and live there year round. Their love of and attention to the beautiful grounds are evident: it's an absolutely lovely site in the middle of wild flowers and trees, and the property and delightful pool (a true refuge during the humid summers) are all beautifully maintained. Peaceful views from every window. We recommend renting the entire "compound" for the most privacy, but really it's so nicely laid out that everyone has privacy, quiet and their own sense of solitude or community when they want it. It's also both totally secluded (it's a mile off the main road on a rough dirt road--which only actually enhances the shangri-la like effect when you turn down the drive and see this vision) and yet has very easy access to Edgartown, the airport, all the other townships.

Wildflowers and Turkeys in peaceful seclusion

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to a beautiful fresh clean home, that clearly showed the owners attention to details. Being greeted with a bouquet of cornflower blue Hydrangeas and a lovely bottle of wine was such a welcoming gesture and made us look forward to the days ahead. We can't express enough how enjoyable our stay was. We experienced all that the island offered, knowing we would return to such a lovely cottage for a star gazing evening. We look forward to returning. We highly recommend this paradise on Martha's Vineyard.

A memorable family vacation...

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time on the vineyard mainly because of this beautiful vacation home! It is perfectly tucked away in a serene setting yet close to everything. This home is filled with lots of love and feels so welcoming as soon as you drive up! Karen and Paul are just lovely and do everything to make you feel at home. The place is filled with lots of natural light and the grounds are just breathtaking! The kitchen is so pleasant & has a really cozy breakfast nook. Each corner of this house has a unique touch & the photographs don't do it justice. We brought our 6 month old daughter here and couldn't asked for a more perfect vacation home...Thanks for making our stay so pleasant. We truly hope to make this our once a year family tradition!

Beautiful home in quiet location

  • 5 of 5

After a great week at the same property in September 2011, we came back to find it just as delightful the second time. The house is very clean and bright. It's very well laid out for two couples, with the two bedrooms at opposite ends of the house. The grounds are very well maintained. The saline, solar-heated pool is fantastic, staying around 80 degrees even with the cool September nights. This time we brought our bikes and really enjoyed the many bike trails on the island.

Owner's Response: We really appreciate the time our guests spend writing the reviews. It is important to us that VRBO browsers realize that we consider keeping our property in excellent condition is one of our constant goals. It is a great feeling to have people walk in and comment on how new and fresh everything is and that so many choose to return another year.

Excellent Property and Property Owners

  • 5 of 5

I wrote over a year ago that I stayed here with a young daughter and decided to return the following season, and we did. We had a wonderful time, both times. I really just wanted to reiterate that the pictures here perfectly illustrate the house and mention that the owners always responded promptly, were friendly and helpful. They had plenty of information in the house for things to do, and it truly was a home away from home.

...the only reason we didn't return this year is that we are interested in seeing other parts of the country and ventured further south for this year's trip. We did have a truly lovely time both times and hope to return again. I just wanted to reiterate what a lovely property this is -- and that Betty Jean was great at coordinating everything.
