Overview

Zermatt Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Self-catering with a cosy, home-stay feeling and on-site concierge service

The Chez Nous apartments are all in the same building (Haus Maoli) and are just a 5 minute walk from the centre of Zermatt. All the apartments have large south facing balconies with stunning views of the majestic Matterhorn. We have one of the few remaining fields left in the centre of the village just in front of our building and the charming old stadls give a very pretty perspective to the view and also provide a welcome feeling of space despite being so close to all the restaurants, the church bridge and the lift stations/bus.

For larger groups there are now 3 apartments to "play with" so that everyone can be in the same building but not necessarily all having to share the same living space.

Your hosts Lizzie & Angus live in the same building so in addition to everything that we do before you get here (we can organise ski schools, book restaurants, help with child care etc) we are also on hand during your stay to help with any questions.

The Corbassiere Apartment is a new addition to Chez Nous for the winter 2016/17 season and is a beautiful 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment on the 3rd floor that can sleep up to 6 people.

The Mischabel is a split level apartment on the second floor that can sleep 6-8 people.

Le Petit is on the first floor and can sleep 4 people.

The only practical point to bear in mind is that direct access to our building from street level is down 3 flights of stairs. However once your luggage is installed most guests then use the shortcut to the village via a path across the field in front of the house.

WARNING: we feel duty bound to warn any potential traveller, using sites like these, about the widespread proliferation of scammers setting up bogus listings and sites. If you are AT ALL uncertain about whether what you are booking is valid PLEASE telephone us because a conversation about what is on offer is much less easily 'faked' than an email offer/confirmation and we will always take the time to explain the Chez Nous service to you in detail.

Details for Le Petit 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4, 1 Bathroom, 1 Half Bathrooms

Le Petit is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom flat on the first floor of the building (on the right hand side as you look at the photo of the exterior) and whilst we call it "petit" it is 90sqm and many of our guests put 3 children in to the second bedroom. The pretty sitting room/dining room has a kitchen off it and a large wrap-around balcony that faces out to the field with the lovely old Swiss stadls in the foreground and the Matterhorn presiding in the background. The dining area comfortably seats 6 people and for relaxing evenings in there is a 45' home cinema system (with UK channels and Apple TV).

The apartment is fully equipped with all the essentials including wifi, a coffee machine, hairdryers packs and a home made cake will be there to greet you when you arrive.

Suitability:

About Lizzie Orange

We (Lizzie Orange and Angus Potter) have been living and working in Zermatt for the last 10 years (and Angus has been skiing here since he was 9 years old). We met here and, having left our 'London lives' behind, decided that Chez Nous was a great way to combine our skills. As well as running Chez Nous, Angus teaches skiing at one of the local ski schools (Stoked) and Lizzie is a private chef, organises events and, in the event that Chez Nous is not right for you, she can also tailor-make a holiday in Zermatt for you.

Lizzie Orange purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Lizzie Orange chose Matterhorn

Initially we ran a small b&b from our own apartment but we now have 4 apartments in this building (the Swiss laws re. foreigners buying property allowed us to buy one and lease the others) and as from Winter 2016/17, Chez Nous has 3 apartments to rent (The Corbassiere which sleeps 6 on the 3rd floor, The Mischabel which sleeps 6-8 on the 2nd floor and Le Petit which sleeps 4 on the 1st floor). We offer our guests the privacy of a self-catered holiday combined with the feel and warmth of staying in someone else's home. We have completely re-furnished the flats to create a more cosy atmosphere that aims to make you feel at home from the moment you walk in.

When we set up Chez Nous I don’t think either of us imagined the pleasure we would get from meeting and getting to know the guests who have stayed with us. We spent a lot of time talking about how we wanted the flats to look (and, as anyone who has done this will know, arguing about what should go where!) but didn’t foresee how nice it would be to see families and friends enjoying the space we have created.

We are delighted to be able to welcome so many guests who now stay with us each year (as well as saying hello to new guests) and we are doing our best to make sure we add a few new touches to each apartment each season to keep them fresh as well as familiar

What makes this apartment unique

We hope that us being 'on site' (without being in your way) will help you get the most out of your holiday. Angus knows the ski area like the back of his hand and Lizzie's forte is food - so between us we think we have the most important things covered. We will be on hand to make recommendations, reservations, answer any questions or simply have a glass of wine with you in the evening if you want to come upstairs and say hello.

Beautiful apt, great views & location, loved it!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying here, but our first time in summer. Le Petit is beautifully appointed, and the name doesn’t do it justice; it's a very decent size with two bedrooms / bathrooms and plenty of inside and outside living space. Very much a home-away-from-home with lots of thought to the design of each room and to furniture and fittings. The living room is a wonderful place to relax with a magnificent uninterrupted view of the Matterhorn through large glass windows, a state-of-the-art television and sound system, perfect for evenings in – and of course WIFI so you can keep in touch if you choose to. The kitchen is very well equipped with modcons and even has its own Nespresso machine: we cooked up some very nice breakfasts and dinners. The double bed in our room (lovely and quiet) was extremely comfortable with a nice modern en-suite bathroom (with bath, perfect to relax aching limbs) and a little side-terrace. Then there is also the main terrace that leads off the kitchen and living room with nice comfortable modern furniture and that Matterhorn view again, nothing quite like waking up and scanning the rock faces with binoculars to spot climbers or sitting outside in the sun relaxing after a hard day in the mountains! There’s plenty of space in the apartment to hang sports clothes and right at the entrance to the building, a good-sized utility room to store guests' hiking boots and bikes (and skis/boots), a lot of thought into creating effective storage. Also a nice touch is that Chez Nous provides guests with chocolate snacks for skiing as well as packets of tissues and maps of the area – and even slippers, were very welcome in winter.

Although Le Petit is smaller than the other apartments, it’s ideal for a family of four or for two couples. The location, just 5-10 minutes from the church and the main street, is within easy walking distance of the lifts of the shuttle bus; a small supermarket and bread shop just around the corner. Lizzie and Angus are such excellent hosts, going that extra mile to welcome you and make you feel at home, and after many years in Zermatt, they have lots of top tips of hikes to go on, mountain restaurants to visit, different activities to try out (paragliding or a heli-tour over the Matterhorn for instance!) or where to party in the evenings. Lizzie and Angus are always on-hand, very organised, helpful and friendly, nothing too much trouble. I highly recommend staying here, we had a truly terrific week!

Owner's Response: Oh thank you so much Anna for putting so much obvious time and thought in to your lovely review of Le Petit. We have so enjoyed having you both as our guests in Le Petit and Le Corbassiere over the years and it means so much to us both that you treat it as (and that it feels as though it is) your Zermatt home. When we set up the apartments we spent a lot of time trying to decide what should go where and how we should decorate them but I don't think either of us really imagined the pleasure we would get from getting to know our guests and seeing them come back to us and becoming friends. And I am so glad that you had such a good week up here this summer and made the most of all the hiking and biking. Enjoy the rest of your summer we and will really look forward to welcoming you both back in the winter. Very best wishes to you both, Lizzie and Angus

This apartment is even more amazing in person!

  • 5 of 5

Extraordinary apartment!! We were more than happy with our stay in Le Petit. First of all the view from apartment is breathtaking. The apartment is comfortable, making you feel at home. Although we did not have the pleasure of meeting Lizzie, she made sure we were well taken care of. Martin was our greeter and a wonderful person. The apartment was well stocked and Lizzie had left fresh fruit, bread, coffee, tea, milk and more to help get us started. Everything was beyond perfect! Thank you again Lizzie and we hope to return soon!!

Owner's Response: Oh Luella - what a lovely review to come home to! Thank you for taking the time to do that for us and I am so glad that your stay in our Le Petit apartment enhanced your trip in Zermatt and it was lovely to hear (and see from your photo) what a good time you all had. And whilst I am sorry that we were not in Zermatt to meet you on this trip it is great for us to know that we have friends like Martin who are able to take such good care of our guests for us in our absence. I hope that we will be able to welcome you back again soon and will look forward to meeting you in person. Best wishes for the rest of your summer, Lizzie

Chez Nous

  • 4 of 5

We stayed with Lizzie and Angus in their appartment- Chez Nous on a B& B basis. Our friends were in Petit Chez Nous. The apartment is beautiful, exceptionally clean and well looked after. Nothing was too much trouble - from pick up's, ski passes, time of breajkfast and choice of breakfast. The bed was soooo comfortable. Thank you Lizzie and Angus.

Perfect place to enjoy a unique ski resort

Zermatt ranks as one of the most special places on the planet and that is no small part because of Lizzie and Angus and their apartments. Everything was as ever in perfect alignment.

Lovely apartment in great location

  • 5 of 5

We loved this apartment. It is very cosy, modern and every detail is thought of. We have young children (10, 8, 6) and the apartment was perfect for us. Very convenient to everything Zermatt has to offer. 5-10 minutes to the centre of town and you could even be at several of the main lift stations in about 10 minutes on foot. Overall, I couldn't recommend this apartment more highly - booking was straightforward, directly with the host, Lizzie. Lizzie went out of her way to help us arrange everything from ski school, advice on train schedules, book restaurant etc etc. She was available throughout our stay to help us with any queries we had. We will definitely come back!

A perfect apartment in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for a week with our 6 month old daughter. The apartment was clean, beautifully decorated and equipped with everything we needed. The views of the Matterhorn were spectacular. By the end of our holiday, we were sad to leave because it felt like our new home. My husband and I agreed that we could have happily stayed forever.

It was some of the small details that made this apartment special - there was freshly-made lemon cake for us upon arrival, coffee, bread, butter and a few other essentials. A baby cot and high chair were provided for our daughter. Lizzie picked us up from the train station, and she was incredibly helpful in providing information about the local area. She even gave us discount vouchers for some of the local attractions. We were made to feel welcomed and comfortable.

By far the best holiday rental we've ever stayed in. We highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Oh thank you so much Meleah - it was lovely to meet you all and I am so glad that you all felt at home "Chez Nous". When we were setting up the apartments Angus and I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what should go where but I don't think either of us realised how much pleasure we would get from our guests' appreciation of our apartments - so feedback like this means a great deal to us and I hope that we can continue to keep the apartments looking fresh as well as familiar - and the great bonus is that one thing we can be sure of is that the wonderful view of that amazing mountain will never change! Best wishes to you both for the remainder of 2015 and I hope that we will be able to welcome you back at some stage.

Map

Car: not necessary

Zermatt deserves its reputation as one of the world's best mountain resorts - there is a magical quality to it all year round.

The Klein Matterhorn cable car is the highest cable car in Europe (3,883m at the summit) and on a clear day gives you simply breathtaking views out towards Mont Blanc and its surrounding peaks. Alternatively start your day on the Gornergrat railway which originally opened in 1898 and is the second highest railway in Europe (after the Jungfrau) - a great feat of Swiss engineering. From the top of Gornergrat you get a sweeping panorama of 29 'four thousanders' (mountains over 4,000m) including the Monte Rosa which is the highest mountain in Switzerland.

In the winter your lift pass covers the Zermatt and Cervinia and includes some 360km of marked runs but if that isn't enough you can also ice skate, sledge, hike, snow shoe, try curling or simply swim and relax in one of the village hotel's wonderful wellness areas.

In the summer there is glorious hiking, climbing, a fun park for the children, cycling, tennis, squash, paragliding and plenty of places to have a picnic by a lake.

At any time of year Zermatt has something to offer and its mountain restaurants are second to none in the Alps so the gourmet will not be disappointed either.
